I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 175: Seen Through?
Miguel looked at Cardino’s smug face amusedly. He did not know why he was so confident even though these were just a piece of paper made from someone’s Innate Skill.
Miguel took a step forward with Edith and Aaliyah following behind him slightly.
With his [Boundless Sage of Knowledge] Innate Skill, why would he be afraid of some piece of skill imbued within a piece of paper?
There was no need for him to be afraid at all.
Miguel took the pen they provided as he waited for Cardino to ask the questions.
"Where were you when the murder happened?" Cardino asked directly with a smile on his face.
Miguel did not hesitate and immediately wrote, "Inside the villa."
Hearing his answer, Cardino’s smile grew wider as he waited for the words to turn red.
However, instead of turning red, the words actually turned green, indicating that he was telling the truth.
Cardino’s smile turned stiff looking at the green light. He looked at Miguel in disbelief as he continued to ask questions after questions in front of everyone else.
A few moments later, he took the piece of Truth Paper and muttered in disbelief, "What? How can this be? This isn’t possible."
He scrutinized the paper thoroughly. He could not believe that everything Journey had written was all the truth. All the words were emitting a sheen of green.
He had already convinced himself that it was truly Journey who did it.
Aside from the fact that the crime happened near his villa, he was also the only one who had a notable grudge with Orman recently.
Orman and Sendal had not died when Journey was still not here.
Following their altercation, Orman and Sendal died. How could he not be convinced that it was Journey who did it?
The grudge has already been formed.
He suspected that Orman and Sendal went to take revenge. They did not know that Journey still had another Gold Grade summon and they should have underestimated themselves.
Unfortunately, they fell into Journey’s hands this time when they were about to take their revenge.
Such was the scenario that has played on his head over and over again earlier.
"City Lord, you should be careful of your words. What do you mean by it being impossible? Did you really think that I was the one who did it?"
Journey’s tone of voice, although normal, actually contained an oppressive force.
Not to mention that, Edith and Aaliyah were already showing clear signs of animosity toward him at this moment.
"Do you think just because you are a City Lord and a member of the Red Family, I would not dare to cut you down?" Edith glared angrily toward him.
She had always been straightforward and fierce.
As they showed the pressure, everyone immediately became alert.
Although they did not like Cardino’s way of handling things, the pressure from two Gold King’s Aura was still too much for them to handle. They could not help but take a step back and prepared themselves for a possible battle.
The Guard Captain stood nervously beside City Lord Caridon. The two guards that had always been by his side also took out their respective weapons as they faced the trio.
However, realizing that he had made a mistake, City Lord Cardino wiped the expression of disbelief on his face as he stated, "I-I apologize for my overreaction."
"Please retract your Gold King’s Aura as it is very uncomfortable for all of us here. Although I may not look like it, I am still this city’s City Lord, after all."
As he said that, multiple city guards entered the room with their respective weapons drawn out. It was clear that they were ready to duke it out with Journey and his beasts.
The three of them looked around them amusedly. They could not help but feel that they were being underestimated.
Miguel looked at City Lord Cardino and chuckled lightly, "Do you really think such small fries are able to stop us?"
Hearing that, everyone around gulped a mouthful of saliva in nervousness. Even Domen and Damian felt that they had no chance of winning even if all of them attacked the three of them at once.
After all, it was still unknown what level of skills they truly had.
"Anyway, I have already done my part. It is already up to you if you believe me or not. However, I won’t allow you to disrespect me just like that over and over again."
He stared at him straight in the eye and stated, "Do you really think a mere City Lord like you has the capability to face us?"
"As I said during the ceremony, you are more than welcome to try."
His words were like a bolt of lightning that struck everyone’s mind. Indeed, Elder Journey had never thought highly of them at all.
"Since you are a member of the Red Family, I will let you off this time around. However, this will be the last."
As he said that, Miguel prepared to turn around and finally leave the Guard Station.
However, before he could take a step forward, Cardino’s anxious voice resounded once again, startling everyone present including Damian.
"Wait!"
Damian hurriedly took a step forward to stand between the two parties.
He looked at City Lord Cardino and berated, "What more do you want? Do you not believe the capabilities of the Truth Paper that came directly from the empire? Elder Journey had already proven his innocence."
"Do you think the Red Family would take this lying down? You have disrespected our Elder over and over again by now."
Cardino was taken aback by such a strong reaction from his close friend. However, he soon understood his intention a moment later. He understood where his friend was coming from so he did not take it to heart.
"O-of course not. It’s just that I have one last question to ask the respected elder before he leaves the station."
He then looked at Miguel and stated, "Elder, if I may ask, did you not feel good when you learned of their death this morning?"
He then handed him the Truth Paper once again, as though telling him to write down his words for verification.
Mguel don’t know what he was trying to achieve by asking such a question.
Nevertheless, he began writing his answer to the Truth Paper with everyone as the witness.
The others crowded a little bit, curious about his answer as well.
Miguel wrote ’I don’t’ without thinking too much about it.
This time, he didn’t even have to use his Innate Skill as what he answered was the truth.
His words then turned green at the next moment, indicating the truthfulness of it.
Seeing that though, Cardino smiled victoriously once more.
"Haha. Ridiculous. I knew it. I don’t know how you did it, but you definitely can ignore the effects of the Truth Paper."
The others frowned hearing his words.
"You better explain yourself carefully. Even if you are the City Lord of this City, do not think that we would always side with you," one of them stated angrily.
Cardino chuckled as he stated, "Haha. You don’t understand do you?"
"Elder Journey here has an altercation with Orman and Sendal the other day. With the grudge forming between them, how could he not feel happy upon hearing the death of his enemy?"
"With that as a lie, how could his words turn green in the Truth Paper? Hence, the reason why I said that he has a way to bypass the Truth Paper’s effects. I suspect that it is the effect of his Innate Skill," Cardino stated confidently.
This time around, everyone thought that it was very reasonable. They looked at Journey vigilantly and waited for his response.
In the end, Miguel just shook his head.
He thought that he had been found out.
"You have some rich imagination, don’t you?"
Accompanying his words was yet another oppressive pressure that descended to everyone else.
Edith and Aaliyah emitted their Gold King Aura in full force, making the others feel as though they were facing deaths.
"What do you mean the grudge between us has been formed?"
"Ridiculous!"
"Why would I hold a grudge against someone who is weaker than me?"
"Why would I feel happy upon knowing the death of someone I don’t consider an enemy?"
"And why would I consider someone as weak as that as my enemy?"
His words were like a bolt of lightning that woke everyone up from their stupor.
It made sense.
For someone as strong and as ancient as Elder Journey, would he truly feel anything about the death of an insignificant being?
This was just like how even mortals would not feel any grudge and any emotion toward the death of an ant that tried to bite them.
His words also told them another thing.
All of them here, Elder Journey doesn’t see them seriously at all.
They felt like a child in front of an elder.
It was only now that they finally realized their difference in perspective.
At the next moment, Edith and Aaliyah turned off their aura as per Miguel’s order.
He controlled the Truth Paper with [Psycokinies] and allowed it to land in Cardino’s hands that were already shivering in cold sweat.
"And I told you, didn’t I? That would be the last time you will be disrespecting me!"
