223 US Delegates

"Why do I have to be sent to such a backwater country?" A middle-aged man with curly brown hair muttered in a disgruntled voice. His name was James Woods. He was once a mayor in the US, but his status dropped significantly after the apocalypse. Although he was still a member of the government, he no longer possessed the same authority he once had.

Looking down from the sky, James stared at the base surrounded by earthen walls. He noticed that only a small portion of the surrounding area was cleared and there were still many roadblocks. He also noticed some blackened streets and buildings with numerous corpses strewn all over. Seeing this, he clicked his tongue in disdain. "Did someone bring a facemask?" He asked the people who were with him.

Soon, their chopper landed at the designated landing site. They were greeted by a group of suited men.

"Greetings, Mr. Woods! I'm Manuel Chavez, the acting president of Maharlika and also the leader of this base." Manuel Chavez took the initiative to shake hands.

Although James was dissatisfied with being sent here, he still showed enough respect to Manuel Chavez. "It's good to see you, Mr. Chavez!"

Both men exchanged pleasantries before they went into the topic.

"Mr. Woods, our items are stored in our stock room. Let me take you there." Manuel Chavez smiled. The other party was a delegate from the US so he needed to show some respect. Maharlika and the USA have been allies since 1951. Most of their advanced aircraft and high-tech military equipment were bought from the US. It could be said that Maharlika was a strong supporter of the US.

Manuel Chavez brought the US delegates to the stock room where the weapons were stored. When they arrived, James gave his subordinates a look. When they saw their boss looking at them, they immediately understood his intentions.

"I'll have my men inspect the weapons. I hope you don't mind." James uttered with a smile.

Manuel Chavez chuckled in response. "It's your job. I won't intervene." He replied.

James' subordinates inspected the weapons in the crates one by one. This process took almost two hours because of the number of guns that needed to be inspected.

"Sir, everything is in good condition." A subordinate reported to James.

Manuel Chavez who heard this smiled in joy. He was afraid that there were some hidden issues with the guns. It turns out that his worries were unnecessary.

"Congratulations, Mr. Chavez! All the weapons here are in great condition! They can all be put up on the trading platform. I will notify my superiors about this and you should receive the Earth Dollars by tomorrow morning." James didn't expect this result. He thought that there would be some guns with issues.

"Thank you for your hard work. You guys should get some rest. I have already prepared your accommodations." Manuel Chavez asked his subordinates to escort the US delegates to their rooms.

James furrowed his eyebrows as he leaned on a chair. He was curious about Maharlika's actions. He wondered why they were willing to trade such good-quality weapons. Those weapons were very useful in the apocalypse and there might not be anything worthy to trade in the platform. In his opinion, it was a bad move. Maharlika wasn't known for its strong army so the weapon they put up for trade should be a huge fraction of their arsenal.

"Just what are those guys thinking?" James muttered to himself. He finally realized why the president sent those agents with him. "I'll get some rest first. Tomorrow, I'll look for those researchers…" His task was to persuade Aurelio Vilbar and Mickoy Bondoc to come to the US. 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝓸𝒎

The next day, Manuel Chavez received an email saying that they had already received 23 million Earth Dollars. He couldn't stop himself from smiling when he saw this. The first thing he did was browse the trading platform and look for something valuable. However, he suddenly remembered that Arlan warned him not to carelessly use the money. "Never mind, I'll let Mr. Roa decide how to use this money." He sighed and shook his head.

He called Arlan and informed him about this.

"Is that so?" Arlan's face was calm. Seeing his serious expression, Manuel Chavez's face turned serious as well.

"Is there anything wrong, Mr. Roa?" He asked.

"How many delegates did they send?" Arlan asked.

Hearing this, Manuel Chavez pondered for a moment. He recalled that not everyone followed them to the storage room. Thinking about this, he furrowed his eyebrows. He wasn't stupid. He knew that the US had some other motive for sending more people to their base. "Mr. Roa, what should we do?"

Arlan leaned on his chair. "If it were you, how would you handle it, Mr. President?"

Manuel Chavez thought deeply before he answered. "I'll send my men to investigate the movements of those people. They are US agents so it would be bad if we confront them. It's better to maintain a close watch on them at a safe distance."

Arlan nodded his head. "Let's do that then. We don't want to offend the US for the time being. Inform Cedrick about this and tell him to keep an eye on those guys. If you send your men, you would only alert those foreign agents."

Manuel Chavez was embarrassed when he heard this. He had thoughts of sending his men to watch over those guys. He concealed his embarrassment and nodded his head. "I will notify the commander."

"Good. Just keep me updated." Arlan said before he disconnected the call. In truth, the moment the US delegates arrived at the base in Metropolitan Manila, Arlan already knew about their objectives. He asked Winter to spy on their communication system and they found out that those guys were planning to investigate the base. To Arlan, this wasn't a big issue. As long as they won't extend their reach to Last City, he wouldn't care about their actions.
