I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 596 - 433 Eat and Drink as You Should_2
The three of them were prepared, so they only stumbled backward instead of falling over.
"Master, what’s happened?" He Wei asked from the side.
Master Zutuo was about to speak when he suddenly spat out a large mouthful of black blood. His two disciples also vomited blood and could barely stand. As Master Zutuo stared at the paper doll on the table, his face turned a ghastly pale.
But in the next second, his expression turned exceptionally cold, as if he had made a momentous decision. He stepped forward, snatched the paper doll, and pounded his chest with his left hand, spitting another mouthful of black blood onto it. Then, forming a hand seal and reciting an incantation, he caused the paper doll to instantly ignite.
The blazing fire lit up the entire room.
Seeing Xia Liang continue to savor his wine as if nothing had happened, He Youling and his son were in shock. What just happened was definitely not an illusion; under that chilling pressure, even their movements had been impeded. Yet, Xia Liang seemed utterly unaffected. The father and son were now extremely curious about what was going on.
"Master Xia, can you explain to us now what’s happening?" He Youling asked once the lights returned to normal.
But before Xia Heisheng could answer, He Youling and He Xiaojun shot to their feet, instinctively taking several steps back as they stared fixedly at Xia Liang, their eyes wide with shock.
BOOM!
Just as they were speaking, Xia Liang’s arm had suddenly caught fire. The two had no idea what was happening, and their voices began to tremble.
"Master... Master Xia, you’re on fire!"
Observing the flames on his arm, the smile on Xia Liang’s face finally vanished. Previously, he hadn’t taken the person in the shadows seriously. To him, it was like an ant biting you; if you don’t even feel it, you naturally pay it no mind. But this constant pestering was starting to irritate him. Even so, he turned to He Youling and his son nearby and said, "It’s nothing."
BOOM!
No sooner had he spoken than the flames on his arm flared violently, spreading and engulfing his entire body. In an instant, Xia Liang had become a man on fire, and the surrounding temperature rose significantly.
Sweat beaded on the foreheads of He Youling and his son. "Nothing?!" They were frantic. "Someone, get the fire extinguisher!" they shouted.
Although they had heard about Xia Liang walking through walls of fire unharmed in Jinling, seeing him transformed into a man on fire right before their eyes left them incredibly worried.
"You two need not worry."
As they fumbled in panic, a calm voice drifted from the direction of the inferno. They looked up to see the voice was emanating from within the flames. The fire continued to burn fiercely around Xia Liang, but he seemed completely unaffected, his figure occasionally visible through the blaze. He was entirely unharmed, his expression not changing in the slightest.
Seeing this, the faces of He Youling and his son turned ashen. They had heard of Xia Liang’s exploits in Jinling, but witnessing it firsthand was still profoundly shocking.
The butlers and maids rushed in with fire extinguishers, putting out the secondary fires that had ignited around the room. As for Xia Liang, no matter how much they sprayed him, the flames wouldn’t weaken in the slightest. But seeing that Xia Liang was safe within the fire, they all finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At this moment, Xia Liang was observing He Youling and beginning to divine. Countless pieces of information flashed through his mind. He guessed that since this person was targeting him because of He Youling, there must be a connection between them. However, a review of He Youling’s past revealed no useful clues, so Xia Liang decided to divine his future instead.
Doing so, he indeed found something. In a few days, at a large banquet hosted by the He Family, that very person would appear. Xia Liang also learned his name.
"Zutuo," Xia Liang’s voice was cold. He then murmured to himself, "I gave you two chances, but you insisted on courting death. I was actually looking forward to meeting you."
Targeting Zutuo, Xia Liang modified the man’s destiny for the next three months. By then, the flames had run their course, gradually dissipating around him.
Beside him, He Youling and his son still looked at Xia Liang with utter disbelief, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Xia Liang didn’t bother to explain, simply borrowing He Xiaojun’s phone and slowly dialing a number.
「At the same time.」
Inside another villa in Haojiang, the fiery glow from the paper doll in Master Zutuo’s hand slowly dimmed. The doll itself was unharmed by the blaze. The only change was that the words on it had blurred, making Xia Liang’s name and birth chart illegible. Master Zutuo knew this meant his spell had completely failed.
"Master Zutuo... what..." He Wei stammered, looking at the paper in Zutuo’s hand. He didn’t know if the problem had been solved or not.
Hearing him, Zutuo just shook his head, his face deathly pale. The backlash caused him to spit up another mouthful of blood. His two disciples hurried to his side.
"His birth chart and the Mingpeng reading indicate he doesn’t have a body compatible with magic. So why can he withstand so many of my spells?" As he spoke, Zutuo nearly choked on his rage, his face flushing crimson before he managed to swallow the blood rising in his throat.
He Wei’s face turned grim. "It’s over, it’s over," he muttered. "It looks like I have no hope of getting the old man’s inheritance."
"Shut up!" Zutuo roared, tired of He Wei’s incessant nonsense. "I have one last move. He definitely won’t be able to block it. The only thing is, I must be in his presence to use it."
Hearing this, a flicker of hope rekindled on He Wei’s face. "Alright! In a couple of days, I’ll introduce you to the old man. He’ll definitely be there. I’m just curious, what is this final method you speak of, Master Zutuo?"
Zutuo was about to answer to placate him when a sound suddenly echoed through the room.
BRRING... BRRING...
Zutuo’s phone was ringing—a video call. Instinctively sensing something was wrong, he shot a look at the others. His two disciples and He Wei quickly hid in a dark corner of the room where they could see the phone’s screen but remain out of the camera’s view.
Zutuo answered the call.
Appearing on the screen was the very figure from the portrait he had just drawn. The man was sitting on a sofa with an icy gaze. Beside him sat He Youling and his son, who were also looking at the screen curiously.
Zutuo’s heartbeat quickened when he saw that Xia Liang was calling him directly. He had only registered this number recently; only his disciples knew it. Even He Wei had contacted him through his disciples. This man on the screen was only the third person to know this number!
Swallowing nervously, Zutuo felt a deep unease. He was sure his voice would sound terrifyingly hoarse, but he still spoke slowly. "What... do you want?"
A voice slowly came from the other side of the video call.
"I’ve come to take your miserable life!"
Xia Liang’s voice echoed through the rooms of both villas. Hiding in the shadows, He Wei’s heart seized upon hearing those words. Zutuo’s many techniques had been useless against Xia Liang. In the video, Xia Liang’s expression was completely unchanged. This meant Xia Liang’s abilities were likely superior to his own.
That was why he could withstand Zutuo’s spells.
