I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 584 - 427: Trouble, No Time_2
Luo Ying was still staring at the cards in front of Xia Liang’s seat without speaking.
Shaking his head in confusion, Lin Tian finally pulled his gaze away from the two of them and looked back at the card table.
"Hey, look! The card Master Xia just discarded is the exact one you were hiding, Luo Ying. Don’t tell me Master Xia figured that out too?"
Neither of them paid any attention to Lin Tian, who was always a beat too slow.
Meanwhile, someone finally answered Wu Tong’s call.
"Hello? Sister Yun’er?"
The person on the other end was a very popular actress in Jinling and was on good terms with Wu Tong.
"Xiao Tong? To what do I owe the pleasure? Are you thinking of coming to Jinling for a visit?"
"Not exactly," Wu Tong said. "I wanted to ask you, Sister Yun’er, since you know Jinling so well—have you heard about a man named Xia Liang recently?"
"Xia Liang... Master Xia?"
Upon hearing Wu Tong’s words, Yun’er shot up from her makeup chair, her expression tense. The makeup artist beside her had no idea what was happening.
"That’s right, Master Xia. So you know him well, Sister Yun’er?"
Wu Tong paused, taking in the tone of Yun’er’s voice. Judging by her tone, she doesn’t just know of Xia Liang—she knows him well. There’s even a hint of shock in her voice. She’s this worked up just from hearing his name. Who on earth is this Xia Liang? Why is he so famous in Jinling?
"I know him very well," Yun’er said after taking a few deep breaths. "But why are you suddenly asking about Master Xia?"
"I’m playing cards with him right now. I just wanted to ask who this Master Xia is. Is he very famous?"
Even before Yun’er said anything more, Wu Tong already knew that Xia Liang was no ordinary person; otherwise, Yun’er would never have reacted this way.
"You’re playing cards with Master Xia right now? Do you have any idea how many people can’t even get a meeting with him for hundreds of Yuan, yet you’re playing cards with him? Do you have his number? Can you give it to me? I’ll treat you to dinner—no! I’ll buy his number from you for twenty Yuan, how about it?
"Aren’t you trying to break into the mainland market? If you can get on good terms with Master Xia, it won’t even take a year for you to become more famous here than I am!"
Although Wu Tong knew Yun’er well, she had never seen her so agitated. She couldn’t help but give herself a mental pat on the back for deciding to enter the casino earlier. If I had just turned around and left, I would have never gotten the chance to learn about Xia Liang.
After taking a few deep breaths to calm her racing heart, Wu Tong spoke again. "But Sister Yun’er, I don’t have his number right now either. Still, could you tell me a bit about Master Xia and what he’s done in Jinling?"
The voice on the other end began to explain.
...
"With a single word, he grants life; with a single talisman, he controls destiny."
Wu Tong swallowed hard, her lips feeling dry. "Sister Yun’er, is all of that true? Is Master Xia really that powerful?"
As she listened to the tales of Master Xia’s incredible deeds in Jinling, the shock on Wu Tong’s face deepened. News of what had happened at the Chu family’s banquet had also spread far and wide.
Sensing Wu Tong’s disbelief, Yun’er continued, "If you don’t believe me, just ask around. Some of the biggest families and most influential figures in Jinling have offered hundreds of Yuan just to meet Master Xia, but he completely ignores them."
"Alright, I understand."
After a bit more small talk, Wu Tong promised to send Yun’er his contact information if she managed to get it, and then hung up. But a new, calculating look had already appeared on her face.
She had come to Haojiang for an audition. She was trying for the female lead in a TV series for the mainland market, a top-tier production. If she landed the role, she could finally establish a firm foothold there. After all, Xiangjiang was simply too small. She had been running around for this matter for some time, but the role was still unconfirmed and would very likely go to someone else.
But if Xia Liang were to say a word, the director from Jinling and his investors would have no choice but to agree.
Thinking this, Wu Tong grew excited, as if she had just made a momentous decision. At the same time, her cell phone rang at an inopportune moment. After seeing the name on the screen, she promptly hung up and turned back towards the VIP section.
Luo Ying and Lin Tian were sitting obediently in their seats, waiting for Xia Liang to return. A distinct wariness was now in their eyes that hadn’t been there before.
A short while later, Xia Liang slowly walked in from the doorway, a faint smile still playing on his lips. The reporters at the entrance had already left.
Almost simultaneously, all three people in the room shot to their feet.
"Master Xia, you... you’re back?" Luo Ying’s voice trembled slightly.
Xia Liang chuckled. "What are you all standing up for? Sit down."
After he said this, he returned to his own seat. Just then, another voice spoke up beside him.
"Master Xia, may I pour you some more tea?"
Wu Tong immediately took the teapot from a server’s hand and respectfully filled Xia Liang’s cup. Xia Liang, however, didn’t so much as turn his head, acting as if he hadn’t seen her at all.
Meanwhile, Luo Ying pulled a bank card from his pocket and presented it to Xia Liang. "Master Xia, I was offensive earlier. Please, don’t hold it against me. This card is a small token of my apology. The PIN is six sixes. Please, you must accept it."
Seeing both Wu Tong and Luo Ying take action, Lin Tian grew flustered. He looked around, unsure of what to do, and could only offer Xia Liang a sheepish grin.
Observing their reactions and glancing at the five cards laid out before Luo Ying’s seat, Xia Liang simply smiled at him.
"Troublesome."
Hearing that one word, Luo Ying’s heart seized. Could it be that Master Xia doesn’t want to forgive me? He’d heard plenty of stories about Xia Liang from Lin Tian before, but he hadn’t believed any of them until now. The thought that he might have truly offended Xia Liang made him break out in a cold sweat; ten lives wouldn’t be enough to pay for that mistake.
But Xia Liang’s next sentence allowed Luo Ying to breathe a massive sigh of relief and finally dare to wipe the sweat from his brow.
"It’s a hassle to take the card just to transfer the money anyway. Boss Lin, give him my account number later. He can just wire it directly."
"Yes... yes!" Luo Ying nodded eagerly.
Xia Liang stood up, took out his phone to check the time, and addressed the three of them. "Alright, that’s enough for today. I’m going to head back and get some rest."
With that, he turned and walked towards the door, ignoring them completely.
"Of course, Master Xia." Luo Ying and Lin Tian bowed toward Xia Liang’s retreating figure.
Wu Tong, however, took a large step and hurried after him, her expression shifting, her thoughts a whirlwind.
"Master Xia! Master Xia?" Wu Tong couldn’t help but call out to his back.
Xia Liang paid her no mind; he had long since seen through her scheming ways.
Seeing this, Wu Tong humbled herself even further, running up beside him with a fawning smile. "I was wondering if Master Xia is free later. I’d like to treat you to a late-night snack!"
The players at the tables on the second floor had been watching Wu Tong ever since she came down, their eyes fixed on her. Now, they could hardly believe what they were seeing. The famous starlet of Xiangjiang was actually inviting a man out for a late-night snack. From her posture, it looked as if she were begging the young man before her.
Hearing her offer, Xia Liang just smiled. "I’m not free."
Wu Tong froze. She had considered many possible answers and had even braced herself for rejection. But she thought he would at least be a little more tactful, maybe offer an excuse. He just said he wasn’t free!
