I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 581 - 426 Malicious Intentions
It was obvious that Luo Ying didn’t believe Xia Liang had somehow calculated what cards they would be dealt.
Meanwhile, the game reached its final round. Luo Ying had raised the bet to a considerable sum, and Lin Tian had already folded. Now, only Luo Ying and Wu Tong were left in the game.
Wu Tong didn’t gamble often, and since Lin Tian had given her the chips, she played rather casually for the first few rounds. She had mostly just been calling blindly, so she now had the fewest chips on the table—almost a third less than what she had started with. After all, she had been secretly watching Xia Liang the entire time instead of focusing on her cards. His continued inaction left her feeling a little disappointed.
At this point, after looking at the cards in her hand, Wu Tong was ready to fold. Her hand was full of junk cards, while Luo Ying already had a pair showing on the table—and not a small one, either. Her chances of winning this round were indeed slim.
Seeing this, Xia Liang gave Wu Tong a faint smile and gently tapped the table once. His action wasn’t hidden, and the others at the table noticed it immediately.
Surprise flickered across Wu Tong’s face, but she quickly understood Xia Liang’s meaning. Still, she was confused. Xia Liang doesn’t know what cards I have, so why does he want me to call?
But when she recalled how Xia Liang had deduced her recent insomnia with just a single glance outside the entertainment complex, she gritted her teeth and called. She decided to trust him this one time.
Seeing this, Luo Ying was startled for a moment, then he began to laugh.
"It seems Master Xia thinks Miss Wu Tong can win this round."
Xia Liang took a sip of his tea and stated plainly, "Of course."
"You’re quite confident, Master Xia, but I think Miss Wu Tong’s chances of winning are very low," Luo Ying said, shaking his head.
Xia Liang replied with a faint smile, "I said she will win. Therefore, she will win this hand."
Seeing Xia Liang’s confidence, Lin Tian grew nervous. He had a feeling this round might offer a glimpse of Xia Liang’s true abilities.
Luo Ying was a bit surprised but said nothing. Instead, a flicker of excitement appeared on his face. If Xia Liang guesses wrong, he’ll become a laughingstock, and I can expose him for the fraud he is. When that happens, Lin Tian will get angry, and maybe the ten Yuan Xia Liang won will even end up in my hands.
"My face-up cards already show a pair of kings," Luo Ying declared. "Miss Wu Tong needs at least a pair of aces to win, but her own face-up cards are all scattered. The fact that she dares to call implies she has an ace as a hole card. However, some of us already have aces showing on the board, so there’s only one ace left in the deck. Do you really think that card will go to Miss Wu Tong, Master Xia? And even if it does, how can you be certain that her hand will beat mine?"
Xia Liang didn’t respond to Luo Ying’s words. His calm demeanor was proof enough that he didn’t think the card could go anywhere else.
Luo Ying’s brow furrowed slightly. He couldn’t understand the source of Xia Liang’s unshakeable confidence. But the next second, he stopped the croupier just as he was about to deal.
"Excuse me, but would it be possible for me to reshuffle the cards?"
"This..." Lin Tian looked conflicted. A player requesting to shuffle the cards themselves was against the rules of a formal game, so he was about to refuse.
But then he heard Xia Liang’s voice from the other side of the table. "By all means."
As he spoke, Xia Liang gestured toward the deck.
Seeing this, Lin Tian couldn’t object. He simply nodded at the croupier. The croupier shuffled the cards again before handing the deck to Luo Ying.
Luo Ying shuffled them again himself and then looked at Xia Liang. Xia Liang still wore that same faint, inscrutable smile, making it impossible for Luo Ying and the others to read him. After a moment of contemplation, Luo Ying cut the deck one more time before finally handing it back to the croupier.
The croupier then dealt the final card face-down to each of the two remaining players.
Luo Ying looked at the face-down card in front of him and then glanced over at Xia Liang, who was still smiling faintly. Just as Wu Tong reached to flip her card over, Luo Ying stopped her again.
"Neither of us has looked at our hole cards yet. Let’s switch."
"Luo Ying, don’t you think you’re going too far?"
Even Lin Tian couldn’t watch this anymore. He was about to protest, but Xia Liang simply said, "It doesn’t matter."
Luo Ying proceeded to switch their face-down cards. The new card in his hand was useless; his best hand was still the pair of kings showing on the table. Then, both Luo Ying and Lin Tian turned to watch Wu Tong, their eyes filled with tension.
Wu Tong slowly picked up her card. The moment she saw a corner of it, she froze. Before Luo Ying and Lin Tian could ask what was wrong, Wu Tong’s hand trembled, and she dropped the card.
The final ace landed face-up on the table.
BOOM!
Seeing that card, even Lin Tian, who had mentally prepared himself, couldn’t help but swallow hard. As for Luo Ying, he felt his back instantly become drenched in a cold sweat, and his expression turned ugly.
He hadn’t forgotten that he himself had reshuffled the deck and even cut it. After the cards were dealt, he had even switched his card with Wu Tong’s.
But in the end, that ace had still landed squarely in Wu Tong’s hand. It was as if it were destined. He was powerless to change this outcome. Everything he had done—the shuffling, the cutting, the switch—had been completely useless.
Still unconvinced, Luo Ying snatched the remaining cards from the croupier’s hand and flipped through them. There was nothing out of the ordinary.
