I Became the Villain's Trainer-Chapter 87
Chapter 87
A good person, a good person...
“Visten.”
“Yes, Your Excellency.”
“Do you know how to become a good wolf?”
“Sorry?”
Visten frowned. Carlisle had always been odd, but this was something new. He was used to hearing commands like ‘kill someone’, ‘capture someone’, or ‘lock someone up’, but becoming a ‘good wolf’? It felt as strange as his son, who normally didn’t care about books, suddenly becoming interested in reading. What was the title again...
<How to Make a Dress Look Perfect, Right Down to Your Fingertips.>
That was it. Carlisle smiled serenely. Visten, feeling an inexplicable sense of unease, wondered if he should make a run for it.
“To become a good wolf, you should follow my example.”
What in the fox language is this wolf saying, Visten thought, staring blankly at Carlisle. If someone gathered the people of Thersion and had them vote on whether Carlisle was a ‘good wolf or a devil’, the latter would surely win by a landslide.
But here he was, being told to model himself after Carlisle to become a good wolf. Did the definition of ‘good’ change overnight? He wisely decided to stay quiet for the moment.

“Alexa said it, you know. She called me a ‘good person’.”
Carlisle beamed with pride. Oh, right. Alexa. She was probably the only one who would vote in favor of Carlisle being a good wolf. Alexa had a way of seeing only the good in people. Visten now fully understood the situation.
So, Alexa must have said something that left an impression on Carlisle, calling him a good person. And now here we are, with Carlisle acting like this. His grin stretched from ear to ear, as if it would never fade.
‘I’m going to lose my appetite at this rate,’ Visten thought, pouting.
It wasn’t even time for breakfast yet, and already it felt like disaster was upon him. He couldn’t help but feel that Alexa had gone just a little too far. How could she say something like that to Carlisle? If Carlisle was good, then what did that make him? The best person in the universe? Why didn’t she ever say such things to him? He was more than a little hurt.
“Didn’t you hear me? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“No, I heard you. To become a good wolf, I should follow your example.”
“Exactly. You’ve got it right. From now on, I’m going to make an effort to be a good wolf. What do you think would be the best way to go about it?”
Visten was trying to figure out how to insult Carlisle in a roundabout way. If he were too direct, he’d be crushed under Carlisle’s enormous paws, and if he didn’t respond at all, he’d probably die from Carlisle’s piercing gaze. Speaking honestly wasn’t an option either – it was as good as signing his own death warrant.
“Well… I suppose being diligent and not lying would be a good start, Your Excellency.”
A subtle jab at Carlisle, who was known for bending the truth. If he wasn’t a wolf of Thersion, he might as well have been a con artist. But Carlisle didn’t seem to catch on. He just smiled brightly.
“Then I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing – being diligent and honest.”
He’s lost it, Visten concluded. It seemed that even the mighty Carlisle could be moved to action with the right praise.

The notion of ‘Carlisle as a good wolf’ spread like wildfire throughout Thersion. And no, it wasn’t Visten who had spread the word. It was Carlisle himself, preaching about his ‘good wolf’ transformation to anyone who would listen. Even Karrolf heard about it. While visiting the castle for Alexa’s lessons, he asked the Head Maid in a serious tone.
“Has the Grand Duke lost his mind?”
It was a blunt question, but one the Head Maid had grown quite accustomed to. She shook her head with practiced ease.
“No, he has not.”
“Then what is going on? All of Thersion is abuzz with this ‘Good Wolf Syndrome’. They say the Grand Duke is offering rewards for becoming a good wolf?”
“Are the rumors really spreading that much?”
The Head Maid laughed. What had started as a simple remark from Alexa had now grown into a full-blown phenomenon across Thersion.
“Apparently, Lady Alexa asked the Grand Duke to spare the life of the Ninth Prince, saying, ‘You’re a good person, so please, let him live’.”
The Head Maid briefly summarized what had happened. Essellia had eagerly shared every detail with her, proudly speaking of how eloquently and wisely Alexa had handled the situation.
“Hmm… But the Grand Duke is hardly a good man...”
“Well, who’s brave enough to tell him that to his face? Now, if you’ll excuse me, Lady Alexa is waiting for you.”
The Head Maid opened the door to Alexa’s study, and Karrolf, removing his hat, entered. As his towering figure – just over two meters tall – melted into a puddle of admiration before Alexa, the Head Maid clicked her tongue in amusement. Clearly, this was no time for him to criticize Carlisle.
“My dear Alexa, working hard on your homework again? Was it too much?”
He looked ready to massage her shoulders and shower her with treats, which he promptly began pulling out of his bag.
“Here, these are the latest rage – financiers from the market. Try them while they’re still warm. And this...”
“They’re delicious!”
With Alexa’s quick approval, Karrolf’s joy nearly made him burst into dance as the Head Maid quietly closed the door behind them.

After the lesson, Karrolf decided to examine Alexa’s health, as was customary. Upon finishing, he was immediately summoned by Carlisle. This didn’t surprise him, so he visited Carlisle’s office in good spirits. Visten greeted him with a broad smile.
“Sir Karrolf!”
“It’s been a while. You are looking good.”
Visten nodded energetically.
“Of course! I’m always kind and friendly, after all!”
“Hmm?”
Karrolf raised an eyebrow. Visten chuckled and explained.
“Alexa said so herself – ‘Baron Visten is so kind and friendly. I’m always grateful to him!’ ”
Two whole compliments! For days now, Visten had been practically floating around the castle like an angel with wings. He left, practically flying out of the office, leaving Karrolf alone with the grumpy Carlisle, who was clearly dissatisfied with the whole ‘good wolf’ craze that had taken over Thersion. Sensing the situation, Karrolf quickly pieced it together.
‘So, Visten gets to be ‘kind and friendly’, but all Carlisle gets is ‘good’?’
A shiver ran down his spine. It was true, the wolves of Thersion were completely smitten with Alexa. Even Karrolf hadn’t realized how deep it went.
“… How’s Alexa’s health?” Carlisle finally asked, getting down to business.
“She’s doing well. I think she can start studying magic soon.”
Carlisle frowned and tapped his fingers on the desk.
“Won’t it be too much for her? She’s already busy with dance, etiquette lessons, and your classes. Will adding magic studies overwhelm her?”
“Once a week should be manageable, Your Excellency. In fact, using her latent magic will help her circulation and improve her overall health.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Carlisle nodded, then casually held out his hand, signaling for Alexa’s homework. Karrolf took it from his bag and handed it over. Carlisle carefully read through every word, nodding in approval. His face lit up with pride as he turned to Karrolf.
“What do you think of Alexa?”
It was a question with only one acceptable answer.
“She’s the most outstanding student I’ve ever seen – so diligent! I’m certain she’ll become a great doctor one day.”
Karrolf answered with conviction, and Carlisle, clearly satisfied, nodded again.
“Please continue to look after her, our dear Alexa.”
“Pardon? Oh, yes.”
Karrolf awkwardly responded. The way Carlisle said ‘our dear’ felt strange, and being asked to take care of Alexa felt even more so. But Carlisle didn’t seem to notice Karrolf’s discomfort.
“If there’s anything Alexa needs, let me know. And if she seems overworked, feel free to reduce her assignments. Speaking of which, what’s her current homework?”
“She’s supposed to observe wolves. I was wondering, Your Excellency, if you could assist her with her studies?”
Karrolf carefully asked the demanding parent.
“Observe wolves? Hmm. That’s a fascinating assignment. Of course, I’ll help her. It’s for her studies, after all.”
Carlisle agreed enthusiastically.
He was determined to show Alexa who the greatest wolf truly was. Giving Visten two compliments felt like an unbearable slight! In truth, he was a bit envious. Next time, he hoped Alexa would add something like ‘great’ or ‘cool’ in front of ‘good’.
