I became the God Brother of the Regent King after Transmigration!-Chapter 86 - 72: Don’t Trip Twice in the Same Place (Part 2)
Rong Heng glanced at him, abruptly closing the canvas bag, his voice cold and hard: "No."
"...This humble servant has no new clothes for winter and is freezing! I’ll freeze to death!" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"You didn’t have any in previous years, why didn’t I see you freeze to death?" Rong Heng retorted coldly, "If you want to die, go outside and die, don’t die in Xiaoxiang Palace."
Jiu: ...
Alright, I shouldn’t have asked Your Highness that question.
Rong Heng finished speaking, picked up the canvas bag, and took out the clothes he planned to wear tomorrow: "I’m going to sleep."
Jiu: Could Your Highness be any more impatient?
He walked out of the main hall, carrying a lamp, deciding to check on Zhang Fu’s situation.
This eunuch, relying on Zhang Fengcai being his godfather, usually indulged in the pleasures of life, lazy and idle, never serving Your Highness, only showing enthusiasm when spying on them.
If not for knowing that if Zhang Fu were gone, there would be another Li Fu or Wang Fu, Jiu would have long wanted to cut him down.
Then, Jiu was stunned at Zhang Fu’s doorway.
Inside, a tall, masked man in black punched Zhang Fu in the head.
Turned out, Zhang Fu wasn’t sleeping soundly but was knocked out and beaten into oblivion.
The scene was so sudden that Jiu didn’t know what to say.
Wei Chengyuan saw Jiu, frowned slightly, and explained in a low voice, "I didn’t do it on purpose... I just saw that since you all dislike him spying, I might as well resolve him for everyone..."
Jiu’s long eyes narrowed slightly, one hand silently reaching for the short sword hidden in his sleeve, but pretended to be frightened, stammering, "Who...who are you?"
He hadn’t been outside the palace with Rong Heng eating hot pot with Wei Chengyuan, so he didn’t recognize this man.
Although Wei Chengyuan had lost his memory, his martial instincts remained, quickly sensing the murderous intent Jiu carried, so he hurriedly explained, "It’s just as well you don’t know me. I’ll kill him for you, and no one will suspect you or Lanlan."
Lanlan? Jiu was puzzled by the nickname, then realized this man was referring to Gu Lan.
So, he’s an underling of Young Master Gu?
Are Young Master Gu’s subordinates all this crazy?
Wei Chengyuan looked down in disgust at the already unconscious Zhang Fu.
This dead eunuch had been spying incessantly on Lanlan and Zijin since they entered Xiaoxiang Palace, his gaze utterly disgusting.
He initially wanted to knock him out and beat him up, but the eunuch woke up, pointed at him, and said he recognized him, threatened him about being an Inner Supervision person, Zhang Fengcai being his godfather, and wanting to settle scores with his master.
So just kill him.
He didn’t want to trouble Lanlan.
Before Jiu could stop him, Wei Chengyuan had already slashed and cut Zhang Fu’s throat.
Blood splattered onto his black mask, his amber eyes without a ripple, as if he wasn’t killing a person but crushing an insignificant ant.
Jiu’s pupils contracted, his voice icy and questioning: "What good does it do to kill him? Xiaoxiang Palace will still replace him with someone to spy!"
Wei Chengyuan sheathed his knife, turned, walked to the door, and asked perplexed, "What does that have to do with me?"
He disliked how the eunuch looked at Lanlan, and as for what happened to Xiaoxiang Palace or Rong Heng, it had nothing to do with him.
He still remembered Rong Heng snatching his hot pot meat! Lanlan even gave him some meat!
Jiu couldn’t bear it, killing in front of him, how could someone be so brazen? Could Young Master Gu really allow him to kill wantonly?
Seeing Jiu angry, seemingly wanting to chase him, Wei Chengyuan immediately patted his backside and climbed up a tree.
Jiu took a deep breath, walked over to Zhang Fu, and reached out to confirm Zhang Fu was no longer breathing.
He shook his head, not feeling particularly sad.
Life and death, round and round, he had seen too many. The suffering he endured during those years at the Imperial Court had caused him to abandon useless sympathy.
Jiu turned around, went back inside the hall, and informed Rong Heng of the incident.
Rong Heng was about to sleep and, upon hearing the description, immediately knew the masked man was Wei Chengyuan.
He purposely went over to check, finding Zhang Fu already cold, realizing even as the Ghost Doctor, he couldn’t bring back the dead.
"Wei Chengyuan was once one of the Qian Family, took Gu Lan as his brother after losing his memory, and has some mental issues," Rong Heng explained to Jiu. "Ignore him, tomorrow go to the Internal Affairs Office and report not knowing why Zhang Fu died unexpectedly. They won’t trace it back to us."
Jiu nodded helplessly.
The tree shadows swayed, Wei Chengyuan’s figure moving like a ghost within the Imperial Palace.
Passing by a glazed-tile palace, he couldn’t help stopping, finding it vaguely familiar.
He remembered what Lanlan said, that he was once some kind of lover of Consort Qian, and this was presumably her bedchamber.
Wei Chengyuan didn’t believe he had any entanglement with Consort Qian, snorted, and was about to leave when he somehow startled a small dog in the courtyard.
"Woof woof, woof woof woof!" The dog seemed to have caught a familiar scent, raising its head and barking excitedly.
Inside Zhongcui Palace, due to the earlier incident of Consort Qian’s assassination attempt, the place was now heavily guarded. Upon hearing the barking, the palace lit up, a patrol of guards instantly activated.
What’s with this dog barking?
Wei Chengyuan immediately leaped to another rooftop, intending to jump down.
"Splash—!"
Below wasn’t flat ground, but a vat of cold water!
Wei Chengyuan fell, his whole body aching.
The feeling,
somehow familiar.
Had he experienced this before?
Before Wei Chengyuan could crawl out of the auspicious jar cradling his backside, a patrol of guards from Zhongcui Palace had already placed a sword at his neck.
Wei Chengyuan stood up from the auspicious jar, wiped his face, attempting to rush out with brute force, but...it seemed somewhat difficult.
He hesitated whether he should take another Heart Closing Pill as Rong Heng suggested, but...having forgotten everything, what if he forgets Lanlan too?
"It’s you again!"
As he hesitated, the leading guard recognized him, his face filled with shock.
Wei Chengyuan raised his head, staring at him in confusion: "You know me?"
Could it be, he really was the Noble Consort’s lover!?
