Chapter 109: Putting on a Big Show

A glint appeared in Gu Shuo’s eyes. ’Never mind whose child she is...’

’...but that little fatty certainly has a knack for getting into trouble. To cause an incident of this magnitude... the Imperial Court, the Four Kingdoms, and the martial world will all find it difficult to clean up this mess.’

The more he thought about it, the tighter his fair-skinned fingers gripped his fan, causing it to creak. ’That little fatty is completely oblivious. I’ll let her suffer a little this time. It will keep her from causing an even greater catastrophe later.’

Dark clouds blanketed the sky, and raindrops the size of beans began to fall, quickly turning into a torrential downpour.

The downpour lasted from late at night until dawn before finally subsiding. On the horizon, the dark clouds scattered, revealing the sun.

On her first day of school, Ye Qianning woke up bright and early. When she opened the door, she saw that small droplets of water were still trickling from the eaves.

The scent of rain mixed with fresh earth and a hint of a clean fragrance washed over her, a wonderfully comforting aroma.

Yesterday, she had picked and stored all the fruit from her dimensional space and planted a few new seeds before going to bed. She had slept soundly through the night’s storm.

Outside the courtyard, Xiang Minghou walked over carrying a tray of food. When he saw the little girl standing in the doorway, he quickened his pace to reach her. "Why didn’t you sleep in a little longer?"

"It would be awful to be late on my first day." Ye Qianning followed him inside. "Dad, doesn’t the academy have a dining hall?"

"The dining hall is quite far, and Dad wanted you to get more sleep. From now on, if you can’t wake up in time at the academy, just have Luo Wen fetch your breakfast. For lunch, you can have Luo Wen carry you there." Xiang Minghou was very worried.

His little girl was supposedly six years old, but she only looked about four or five.

"That’s so embarrassing! I can manage on my own."

"What’s there to be embarrassed about? Mealtime at the academy is only as long as it takes for an incense stick to burn. At the speed you walk, they’ll be clearing away the dishes by the time you get there." In Xiang Minghou’s mind, his daughter was a child who detested exercise and walking.

The classrooms at the academy were a long way from the dining hall!

"If it’s far, then it’s far. I can use it to lose some weight." As Ye Qianning spoke, she pinched the roll of fat on her belly with her little hand. ’It feels like I’ve gotten fatter again.’

"Chubby children don’t need to lose weight. You’ll naturally slim down when you get older."

’Naturally?’

Ye Qianning didn’t believe that for a second. ’The chubbier you are as a child, the harder it is to lose weight when you’re older. If I keep gaining weight like this, I can just imagine my tonnage when I’m an adult.’

’I can’t get any fatter!’

After breakfast, Xiang Minghou escorted her to the classroom area and nagged her with another round of reminders before he finally felt at ease enough to head down the mountain.

Once her dad was gone, Ye Qianning found a quiet spot and summoned Luo Wen and his men. She then made up an excuse to send them away, instructing them not to appear near her for the next few days.

’There will be many people trying to gather information on me soon. Although my men are good at hiding their presence, the Capital City is full of experts. They could easily be discovered, and if they’re forced to act, it will only draw more suspicion.’

’I need to get away from everyone to stage a grand performance!’

After settling things with her men, Ye Qianning returned to the classroom door her father had left her at. She pushed it open and was met with a row of little heads—almost all of them belonged to five- and six-year-old children.

Hearing the noise, all the children turned to look at the door in unison. Their eyes widened in shock when they saw Ye Qianning, likely because they had never seen a child so plump.

Ye Qianning reached out, closed the door again, and rubbed her temples. ’Dad must have brought me to the class for the little kids.’

’I’m supposed to be in the same class as Sang Zhi.’

Lou Mountain Academy was huge. She walked past three or four more classrooms from the first one but saw no children around Sang Zhi’s age. Just as she was starting to get confused, she spotted a familiar figure.

The little formalist was currently dressed in a small blue and white robe, clutching a stack of books as he walked in a particular direction.

Though he clearly seemed to be in a rush, his steps were still unhurried and incredibly steady. He walked as if he were counting out a rhythm.

’So that’s what "no running" looks like!’
