Chapter 405: Chapter 405 His family

Lucien’s breath hitched in relief. A tiny smile broke through, small and shy. He lifted his little hand so carefully, as if touching something sacred, and pressed his palm to her cheek. His hand was warm and small and trembling just slightly, as though he couldn’t believe she was really there.

The moment his skin touched hers, something inside Alina lit up, a tender warmth she couldn’t even begin to describe. It felt like her soul was being hugged.

She leaned into his touch instinctively, her own eyes softening. Her chest filled with a warmth she had never known, a sense of home she hadn’t realized she wanted until this very second.

And with Sable curled against her other side, clutching her sleeve, everything inside her softened even more.

Alina went still when Dante suddenly announced in that deep, calm voice, "Your mom is very worried that you two won’t accept her."

"Dante!!" she hissed, mortified, her cheeks exploding with heat. She looked like someone had caught her stealing cookies.

Sable’s eyes shot open so wide he looked like a startled kitten. "You thought that?" he asked in pure disbelief.

Alina blinked, froze, then shook her head so fast she looked like a bobblehead doll caught in an earthquake.

"No! No I didn’t— I mean— I just— I wasn’t—" she sputtered, hands flapping.

Lucien stared at Dante with the same expression he used whenever Drake lied about homework.

"Dad. You’re lying."

Sable nodded firmly, crossing his tiny arms. "Yes. Big lie."

Alina gasped softly, her eyes lighting with dramatic sparkle. They were... they were defending her?

Her lips curved in a slow, victorious little smile as she turned her head toward Dante.

A smirk.

A dangerous, adorable, triumphant smirk.

Dante froze.

The mighty Shadow Lord, the man who terrified demons three times his size, looked genuinely and utterly shocked that two tiny babies had taken Alina’s side and put him on the witness stand.

His eyes widened a fraction.

His jaw dropped just slightly.

He even blinked twice, as if recalculating reality.

Sable pointed at him accusingly. "Dad, why are you saying wrong things about our mom?"

Lucien added, dead serious, "Yeah. Dad, apologize."

Dante looked between his sons, then at the smirking Alina, then back at his sons again, like a man who had just realized he was dramatically outnumbered.

Even his shadows behind him drooped in embarrassment.

Alina covered her mouth to hide her giggle. God, seeing the terrifying demon lord getting bullied by two tiny babies... it was the cutest thing she had ever witnessed.

And Dante, still processing betrayal, muttered under his breath, "I don’t understand what is happening."

Sable leaned closer, his little doll pressed to his chest as he looked between Dante and Alina with round, innocent eyes. "Teacher knows we like her so much," he said with pure confidence, as if the entire universe already agreed with him. "So she might not think we are not going to accept her."

Alina froze.

Oh no.

Her heart thudded painfully, and guilt washed over her cheeks in a warm pink blush.

Because she did think that. She had been terrified, overthinking every tiny possibility, imagining the babies crying, panicking, or rejecting her.

But hearing Sable say it so openly, so naturally, so trustingly...

It made her chest ache.

"Sable..." she whispered, her voice trembling as she reached out and cupped his tiny cheek.

His skin was warm and soft against her palm, and his little tail, his shadowy wisp that acted like a tail, wagged happily.

Lucien noticed her expression immediately. His brows furrowed, and he slid closer too, touching her arm gently. "Teacher... did you really think we wouldn’t accept you?" he asked softly.

Alina swallowed, her guilt spilling out in her expression before she could hide it. She didn’t answer, but the silence said everything.

Sable gasped dramatically, his little mouth forming a perfect O. "You thought we don’t want you?" he squeaked, absolutely in disbelief.

Lucien shook his head firmly. "Teacher... we loved you before Dad even loved you."

Alina’s eyes instantly filled with emotion. Her throat tightened. Her heart melted painfully, beautifully, all at once.

She covered her face for a second, trying to hide how overwhelmed she was, but Sable held her cheeks with both of his tiny hands.

"Teacher..." he whispered, nose almost touching hers, "you are ours."

Lucien nodded, scooting closer, leaning his head against her shoulder. "We never won’t accept you. Never."

And Dante looked at them, frozen with emotions. Even he had to look away for a moment, because the sight of both his sons hugging Alina, calling her theirs, comforting her, struck him right in the core.

Alina pulled both boys into a tight hug, her heart stretched so wide she felt it might burst.

"I’m sorry..." she whispered. "I just... I care for you both so much, I got scared."

Sable hugged her tighter. "No scared. Teacher is best."

Lucien added softly, "You are already our mom in our hearts."

Alina let out a shaky laugh, tears pricking her eyes as she held them close, feeling the warmth of their little bodies and the sincerity in their tiny words.

Dante watched the three of them, his sons wrapped around the woman he loved, and he felt something dangerous and tender coil inside him.

A family.

His family.

And he would protect it with everything he had.

Alina’s arms wrapped around their tiny bodies as if she wanted to tuck them straight into her heart. She pressed soft kisses on their warm foreheads, one, then another, then another, unable to stop herself. Their cheeks were so round, their hair smelled like sunshine and baby shampoo, and their small hands curled against her like they always belonged there.

"I am so, so lucky," she whispered, her voice trembling with affection as she breathed in their little baby smell. "I got the most adorable, cute, smart little babies in the whole world."

Lucien instantly went stiff in her arms, his entire face turning red up to his ears.

Sable squeezed his eyes shut, his shadows wiggling shyly around him as if trying to hide him from the world.

"Mom... stop..." Lucien muttered, though his small fingers clung to her sleeve and refused to let go.

"Mom..." Sable whispered, curling himself into a tiny ball against her chest. "My heart is... exploding..."

Alina laughed softly, hugging them tighter and kissing their cheeks again because she simply couldn’t help it.

Every kiss made Sable curl his toes in embarrassment.

Every kiss made Lucien look away as if someone had turned a spotlight on him.

"You two are too cute," she said breathlessly.
