Chapter 388: Chapter 388 Exam (3)

MAXIMUS

Boo stared at it for a second, tilted his head, then frowned.

"...Also Boo," he added underneath in much smaller letters.

Satisfied that his identity was now properly represented, Boo finally glanced at the questions. He did not read them in order. In fact, he did not really read them at all. He simply wrote answers wherever his eyes happened to land, skipping around the page like a ghost with commitment issues.

"This one feels right," he whispered solemnly, scribbling something with absolute confidence.

"This one also feels right," he added, answering a completely different question without hesitation.

Logic was optional. Vibes were not.

Luna flipped straight to the last page. She didn’t like first pages. They felt judgmental.

Starting from the back, she worked her way forward with quiet determination, answering questions in reverse order, her brow furrowed in serious focus. Every time she finished one, she nodded to herself like she had just conquered an enemy on the battlefield.

Felix, meanwhile, was the picture of calm.

He began from the first question and moved forward one by one, carefully and methodically, not skipping anything. His tails were curled neatly behind him as he wrote, pausing only to double-check his answers before moving on, completely absorbed in his own rhythm.

Vlad Jr. sat as though he were attending a formal examination at a royal academy.

His back was straight. His posture perfect.

He wrote each answer elegantly, his gifted pen gliding smoothly across the page. Every number was neat. Every solution precise. He neither rushed nor hesitated. It was as if the exam existed solely to confirm what he already knew.

Kelpie sat very still. He did not splash water. Not even a single drop.

The visual questions thrilled him. He knew all the addition ones, and every time he saw pictures, his eyes sparkled. He counted carefully, wrote his answers proudly, and resisted every instinct to celebrate with water.

Rocky, meanwhile, was having the time of his life.

He counted with his fingers, then again with his pencil, smiling happily as he wrote down each answer. Numbers felt friendly today. Safe. Manageable. He hummed softly under his breath, completely content.

Alina walked slowly between the desks, watching tiny hands write, brows furrow, tails flick, shadows twitch, and pencils scratch softly against paper.

She glanced down at her watch, counting the remaining minutes, when a gentle breeze brushed against her cheeks, as if the room itself had shifted. She looked up instinctively.

Dante was standing at the doorway.

For a heartbeat, everything else faded. He met her eyes, calm and steady, and a small smile touched his lips. Alina smiled back without even thinking, warmth blooming in her chest as he stepped inside the classroom.

The babies noticed him immediately.

Spines straightened. Pencils paused midair. Eyes flickered up and then quickly back down to their papers, as if the presence of the principal alone could summon surprise pop quizzes or instant judgment.

Dante said nothing.

He moved quietly, hands behind his back, his steps unhurried as he walked between the desks. He glanced over shoulders, scanning papers with composed interest, careful not to disturb anyone. His presence was silent but powerful, like a shadow passing over calm water.

He paused beside Rocky first, watching him count on his fingers with fierce concentration. Then he stepped past Felix, who continued writing steadily, and gave a faint nod at Vlad Jr.’s immaculate paper. Kelpie stiffened when Dante passed him, then relaxed when no comment came. Luna barely looked up, too focused on finishing her last page.

And then Dante stopped.

Right beside Boo.

Boo felt it immediately. His instincts screamed to fly, spin, explain everything, confess his entire exam strategy, and possibly blame Drake for emotional damage.

But he didn’t.

He stayed perfectly still.

Life... was very hard, Boo thought solemnly.

Dante leaned slightly, his gaze falling on Boo’s paper. His eyes traced the bold writing at the top, lingering for just a second longer than necessary.

MAXIMUS

Boo

Boo’s cheeks puffed out. He clenched his pencil and stared straight ahead like a soldier awaiting judgment.

Dante said nothing.

He simply hummed softly under his breath, something unreadable in his expression, before moving on.

Boo exhaled silently, his entire body sagging in relief. He resisted the powerful urge to whisper, I survived, to no one in particular.

Alina watched the scene from the front of the room, her lips pressed together to hide her smile. Dante’s presence hadn’t scared the babies. If anything, it made them focus harder, as if they all wanted to prove something without being told to.

When Dante finally reached her side again, he stopped and met her eyes.

"They’re doing well," he said quietly.

Alina’s chest warmed. She nodded, pride shining in her expression. "They really are."

Across the room, Boo peeked up briefly, saw them smiling at each other, and immediately went back to writing.

"I will take my leave," Dante said after a few minutes.

Alina nodded as she watched him turn and walk away.

Boo squinted after Dante’s retreating figure, his little ghost brain spinning wildly.

Woah... something very fishy is going on between Teacher and Principal!!! he thought with the seriousness of a detective who had just uncovered a world-shaking secret. His mind agreed instantly. Yes. Extremely suspicious. Smiling. Eye contact. Very drama. New gossip.

Dante’s footsteps faded, and the classroom slowly breathed again.

Alina moved between the desks, her steps soft and careful as she checked on the babies one last time. She leaned closer to Drake, who was counting on his fingers under the table, lips moving silently. She smiled at Rocky, who was double-checking his answers with fierce concentration, his tongue peeking out a little. Vlad Jr. had already placed his pen down neatly, hands folded, posture straight like a tiny noble awaiting judgment.

"Fifteen minutes left," Alina announced gently.

A wave of reactions rippled through the room.

Felix nodded calmly and continued writing. Luna frowned and erased something aggressively. Kelpie brightened, happily circling the pictures again as if they were friends. Sable paused, stared at one question for a long moment, then scribbled something with determination. Lucien adjusted his paper and worked faster, focused and quiet.

Boo gasped silently.

"ONLY FIFTEEN???" he mouthed dramatically to no one, then bent over his paper like a ghost possessed, writing whatever felt spiritually correct.
