I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 66: Spicy beef soup
Chapter 66: Spicy beef soup
"Then you deal with the next shadow. You can take your time. You would become stronger for the next one. It is painful and ugly but one day when you can face your past calmly, I think all the ugly would be worth it."
Ravi looked at Arlen.
Calmly.
Quietly.
The rims of his eyes turned red as if to suppress some very painful emotions.
Ravi was a hypocrite. He could calmly console others. It is not your fault, casualties happen in war but when it came to him, he could barely bear the thought of repeating the same consolation to himself.
What happened to Luxor was not your fault? Ravi could not dare utter those words in his mind or to himself.
Whose fault was it then? The immortals. They were the ones in a war with demons so how did it end up that it would be the Sentinels who would fight said war for them?
Hunter had said that the relationship between the Immortals and the Sentinel was a beautiful one. He had lied, they were nothing more than hunting dogs to the Immortals.
Those high and mighty people were much more powerful than them but they would not move, all day they were pecked high, unable to move because of karma.
Sentinels on the other hand were very special beings with very low karmic ties. Even when they die as Sentinel, they would reincarnate as orphans, incapable of finding love or making friends, till they die and reincarnate as Sentinel again. Their souls were marked with the brand of a Sentinel, they could not
Living the life of a hero, killing villains, and destroying demons. Such a life was quite unfair.
Secretly, Ravi had thought maybe it was good that his friend’s soul had been destroyed before he cursed himself for daring to have such thoughts.
When Arlen said it, it sounded so easy. Could he face his grief, his pain, his fears, and his actions? Ravi doubted that he could.
It was much easier to bury it. Then if Alya destroys his soul, wouldn’t those dark thoughts be destroyed with them?
"It sounds so easy."
"But it is not. Actually, this is not my advice. My therapist gave it to me and I have used it even since. Now, I am giving it to you, for free."
"For free?" Ravi looked at him with a trace of confusion, "Thank you?"
Arlen laughed, "As for agreeing to do something that you don’t want to. You can try it, it might be more fun than you imagine and if you still don’t like it, you can tell them no, I would lend you the money to break the contract." He used his left hand to cover his mouth, "I am very rich."
Money? "The person has a mountain of gold." He said sullenly.
Arlen thought for a while, "Then we would report them to the National Treasury, hiding such money is after all, illegal."
Reported Alya to the National treasury, Ravi thought about it for a second and his lips twitched for a second before breaking into laughter.
He looked at Arlen who was smiling gently at him.
Something had changed. The road in Ravi’s heart had always been clear to him, it was long, so long with no light, only pitch darkness. He did not care about this road before but now, he did, that road without light seemed to have a candle flickering within them. A beautiful light.
He looked outside the window. There was a beautiful tree outside. Just last week, the leaves were gone, leaving behind barren branches. Now, there were green buds on the tree intersecting beautifully with the brown- the more one looked, the more one could feel the nearing of spring.
"Ravi, are you feeling better?"
His attention turned to Arlen. He wanted to get a bit closer to this person, even more than he was now.
He nodded, his tone was soft and a little absent-minded, "I am a bit better. Thank you!"
Arlen coughed and averted his eyes immediately, "Can not say it like that?"
"Like what?" He cocked his head.
"Our food!" Arlen called out loudly to the young teenager and her mother.
What was wrong with him now? He looked out of the window, Ravi had not lied. His heart was much lighter than he imagined it could ever be today. He was even looking at the food a little.
Rather than the girl, it was an elderly woman who came out with a tray a few minutes later filled with the side dishes. There were two bowls of white rice, some pickled onions, some radishes, some fermented vegetables, lotus root, and a big bowl of spicy beef soup. freewebnøvel.coɱ
The soup was very red with a rich bed of green onions, mushrooms, beans sprouts, fern brakes, diced beef and soft radishes.
Ravi looked up at Arlen, "I forgot to ask you if you can eat spicy food."
Arlen, who was already scooping a ladle of the soup into his bowl of rice, nodded.
"I can eat everything aside from green beans."
He took a spoonful and his eyes widened, the fresh crunch of the beansprouts and the soft texture of the fernbrake, not to mention the beef, it was so spicy.
"So delicious!" He said with bright eyes.
"You should not talk when eating spicy food, you might choke."
Arlen nodded obediently and tried another spoon, this time he added some fermented vegetables to the rice. He licked his lips and his attention completely focused on his meal, he picked a piece of lotus root and ate it, giving Ravi a thumbs up.
Ravi looked at him with a smile, the way Arlen ate, he liked it very much. He always ate enthusiastically, his expression was full of contentment and the bulging cheeks made Ravi want to eat the food he was eating even more.
He picked a piece of the lotus root. The lotus root slices were covered with the same spicy oil as the soup with some sesame seed for added flavor. He tried it carefully. It was crunchy and the taste was extremely spicy and fresh. After the heat faded, it was still a bit sweet.
