I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 63: Talk to me
Chapter 63: Talk to me
"You are awake?" Ravi’s voice was soft as he drove down the road.
Arlen yawned and slowly opened his eyes. He yawned again and blinked first with confusion and later with shock, he felt a copious warmth flow gush into his limbs and bones, it was as if every vein in his body was opened and cleansed. He let out a sigh of comfort, the feeling was extremely wonderful and comfortable, like soaking in a warm bath after a hard day at work. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Ravi glanced at him, he had been afraid that being in the presence of Alya would affect Arlen so he had asked him for a Vital tea leaf. Seeing that she was here to request something from him, she had given him the entire sapling so freely.
The sapling was the size of a palm, young and slender with four leaves on it. Each leaf was a bright verdant green, with faint purple energy so dense that it materialized drifting out from it.
Ravi had fed Arlen one of the leaves and the sapling was now in a small pot at the back of the car.
"I Feel like I have slept for at least ten weeks. It has been a while since I have felt so comfortable." He sighed as he adjusted the seat, "How long have I been sleeping?" He was truly so comfortable, that he could even feel as if his ability had gotten stronger. It was the most odd of feelings.
He looked to the left where Ravi was driving quietly, his expression was off. His eyes were colder, much colder.
"Fifteen minutes."
There was not a change in his voice, his inflection was still the same.
"Did something happen?"
The hands on the steering wheel stiffened and Ravi’s entire body tensed.
"Nothing happened."
Arlen was silent for a minute, "Did I snore or say something crazy in my sleep again? Having bad sleeping habits is one of my flaws."
"Your ten flaws?"
Arlen slapped his thigh, "You remember."
Of course. He doubted he would forget any conversation that he had with Arlen, "You mentioned that you tend to judge people quickly and you judged me after our first meeting."
Ravi’s eardrums hurt, as if someone had whacked him in the head with a hammer, causing tinnitus so painful that he could barely see clearly or think. Meeting Alya, remembering Luxor was as if all the happiness in the world was drained from him again.
He wanted to drink so much, drink until he passed out, drink until he could not think, he could not move again but he was afraid to go home and drink, he was afraid he would do something violent or crazy in front of that child. He has already ruined so many lives.
And Arlen was here. He did not want Arlen to see him like that, see how ugly he can be when he falls into the Abyss again.
It did not take so much to suppress himself. He was an expert on it. He used all his strength to restrain those dark emotions. He placed his hand lightly on the steering.
"Must you recall those past events?" Arlen said as he covered his face with one hand.
"Captain, it was twelve days ago."
"So short. I feel like we have known each other for ages. Officer West, do you also get that feeling? What does the proverb say again, "Old friends are like coffee, it takes one sip to know them."
"You made that up." There was no proverb like that, that did not even make sense.
"No, I did not." Arlen said but there was a smile on his brow, "Are we almost there?"
Ravi nodded and in two minutes, he parked in front of a restaurant. Ahmed’s spicy beef soup made with the freshest ingredients} was written on a black signboard with chalk in front of the store.
"Good afternoon! Welcome to Ahmed’s spicy beef soup. What would you like to have?" The server was a young girl in her late teens who wore a white shirt and black trousers. She was sitting on the counter and scrolling through her phone, not raising her face to look at them.
"Bina, Stop playing on your phone. If you don’t serve the customers well, I would not give you pocket money."
"Fine!" The girl grumbled and looked up. The moment she looked up, she froze visibly and a huge smile appeared on her face. She jumped down from the counter seat and grabbed the menu, her light green eyes glittered like emeralds.
"Good afternoon! Welcome to Ahmed’s spicy beef soup. What would you like to have? And what is your name?"
"Oh! I am Captain..."
"Not you!" The girl said curtly, raising her right hand to stop him from talking, "You!" She pointed at Ravi, "What is your name?"
Ravi looked at her blankly, "Just give us the menu!"
The girl was not upset at her, she blushed, "So cold! Totally my type."
"Bina! Stop harassing the guests!" A woman called from the kitchen and Arlen laughed, pulling Ravi by the hand and heading to one of the window seats.
"What to do? Officer West, you seem to be attracting bees and butterflies wherever you go."
Ravi hummed slowly. He rested his hand on his chin and looked out of the window.
Arlen watched him for a minute and then leaned closer. He lifted Ravi’s chin with two of his fingers turning his face to look at me.
"Officer West. Look at me."
Ravi looked at him, he was really too warm, he wanted to move his chin but Arlen held it in place. Breaking his hold was too easy but Ravi was spellbound by the worry and concern in those blue eyes.
"Ravi, I would like to think that we are friends. I know something is bothering you, seeing so much out of it is really worrying. Did something happen? Are you in some kind of trouble? Or is it the case? If that is the case, I can take you off it. Getting close to you is already so hard, so when you put these walls, I get scared. Whatever it is, I will do my best to help and if I can’t help, at least I can listen?" He lowered his hand from his chin and placed it over his right hand, "You can talk to me, Ravi."
