Chapter 299: Are you not tired of being a Hero?

Ravi looked at the blind King Yama, who still had the perfect gentle mask on his face. He had been with Malik long enough to know the little micro-expressions on that face. King Yama was absolutely fuming.

The energy of the Netherworld is unique. It was extremely cold, and you could almost hear howls and wails if you listened carefully.

He held Arlen’s hand and conveniently moved backward. Looking at the children, Sage and Ash immediately disintegrated.

Whether it is the PDA or the potentially dangerous immortal fuming quietly, he would feel much better with Ash and Sage far away at home. It’s best if they begin cleaning before the four of them get back home.

If Sage could hear Ravi’s thought process, he would repeat that he was eighteen years old and that in more than half of the countries on the planet, he was already classified as an adult.

"Where is...Ah! Ravi, so I am the one who deserves to die here?" Lana muttered, raising her eyebrow while also following his action and stepping back.

"Send her back home too.Arlen whispered next to his ear. He shivered, resisting the urge to rub his sensitive ears.

"You are an adult." Ravi murmured but he still raised his hand and she immediately disintegrated.

Malik was still kissing Anouk, and Ravi had the strongest urge to kick him in the buttocks. Really? It could not wait for them to send the literal King Yama back to the Netherworld before they stuck to each other like teenagers.

He sneaked a look at King Yama when he felt a cold energy pass through his defenses.

"Come.Ravi had teleported himself several times, but this was the first time it was being done completely against his will. His entire atomic structure was deconstructed before he had the chance to say anything to Arlen.

In another space, the air seemed to implode, collapsing upon an unseen singularity. A burst of light erupted as Ravi’s atomic essence was reconstructed.

It was eerie and even frightening; just now, King Yama had easily seized control of his ability. He was reminded again that no matter how much this person looked like Malik, no matter what vessel he used to host his spirit, he was still an immortal.

Why was he brought into this place? He had completed the mission that King Yama had given him, hadn’t he?

"Lord..."

"Fengdu, you can call me Fengdu."

Like hell. Ravi pursed his lips. No matter how gentle that voice was, it always carried a sacred and inviolable aura, as if disobedience could not even be considered. Yet, he could not bring himself to call King Yama by name.

"Sir Fengdu." Ravi settled after much difficulty.

King Yama, Fengdu chuckled and Ravi stared at the man like a fool. It was uncanny; they laughed almost the same way.

"Fine. Let us go with that."

Ravi stood upright and immediately began to give his report without being asked to. He detailed everything from Anouk’s death to Zero’s soul perishing."

"Yes, I know who was behind this particular mess."

Ravi expected him to be more furious but was surprised at the helplessness in his tone. It almost sounded as if Ash and Sage did something particularly stupid.

But King Yama had no child. That he knew for sure. As one of the most eligible immortals, there was no way that a child by him would be private.

Ravi did not ask for extra details; he just nodded. Should he mention his deal with Alya? She did not go behind the back of her sworn Lord to give him that mission, right?

Ravi took a deep breath as he looked at the blind immortal standing in front of him.

"Sir Fengdu, Can I ask you a question?"

King Yama nodded for him to ask.

Ravi’s heart pounded in his chest; it was so loud that he could hear it. Born a human. Live for 18 years without familiar bonds. Die. Become a Sentinel. Die. Born a human. Over and over and over again. That numbing pain grew even brighter and stronger.

Without any ending. The kind of punishment that Malik would lie about. Malik had said it sounded poetic, and Ravi believed him.

Facing the judge of the dead, Ravi could not deny the fear that lingered in his heart, but he stepped forward, patting his chest. "I know I am a sinner.". Which of the unforgivable sins did I commit?"

King Yama was indifferent as he recited, "Betraying one’s sworn liege. Greed that leads to a hundred thousand deaths. Only those who committed either of these two sins can become a Sentinel. You, in your life as Feng Qing, committed both."

Ravi felt like he was swaying but his feet were still on the ground. Two unforgivable sins. He did not remember any of it, a life as Feng Qing, he had no single recollection of such a life. Where could he even begin? Ravi felt forlorn. Over and Over again. Sentinel. Human. Sentinel. Human.

Ravi wished Arlen was right here. Since when had he been so fearful of the future?

"Your deal with Ayla was that you wanted your soul to perish. I can absolve your sin. Atone with the death of your soul. Your soul would perish. Do you understand what it means, no reincarnation. Nothing. You would not exist in the fabrics of this universe. You don’t need to suffer the rebirth cycle of a Sentinel again."

There was a time when this was all Ravi had wanted. Ravi hastily shook his head, "No.The faces of his loved ones entered his mind: Arlen, Asher, Sage, Malik, Lana, Draco, Lisa. Ravi did not know whether his empty heart had filled so much, but he felt that it was full, so he said even more firmly, ’No.’."

"I did not mean right now. The hellhounds can wait. They can come for you when everyone you know in this life is dead."

Ravi was quiet for a very long time. He did not need to imagine much; he could fairly recall the emptiness, the loneliness. They would all drink Meng Po soup and forget him. Malik would merge with King Yama and erase the memory of this life. He would be alone.

Again.

He did not know how many minutes had passed before he looked up at King Yama. "But if I am alive, maybe in another life, our paths may cross again.". Perhaps I can save them."

King Yama suddenly raised his hand and petted Ravi’s head. The gesture was warm and even kind.

"Ravi West, are you not tired of being a hero?"
