Chapter 680: Chapter 679: Pregnant?! (2)

"I’ve already heard; he murdered someone, right?"

"Yeah, it’s true you can’t judge a book by its cover. He always seemed so cheerful and pleasant before. I never thought he could be so ruthless!"

"Looks can be deceiving indeed."

"Definitely!"

...

Two cleaners were gossiping as they worked. Vera overheard them and frowned, then coughed lightly.

When the two cleaners saw her, they both turned pale. They quickly greeted her and left hastily with their garbage cans.

Walking into Kris Cooper’s office, Vera went out onto the terrace and walked over to the fish pond.

The company building had been renovated before, with significant changes to the offices and other areas. Only this terrace and the fish pond remained virtually the same, untouched by time.

Walking around the fish pond to the railing, Vera leaned on it and looked down.

She imagined her father’s emotions standing here, just before he fell from this spot, and her eyes moistened again.

After an unknown amount of time, she heard footsteps behind her.

Vera turned and saw Isla Hawskin walking in with a watering can. Seeing Vera, Isla hurried over.

"Vera, why are you here so early?!"

Vera turned, wiped her eyes, and then faced Isla.

"Has everything been alright at the company these past few days?"

Isla’s expression was evasive.

"What happened?" Vera pressed.

"Marvel Games has canceled our cooperation agreement," Isla said softly.

Vera knitted her brows. "Why?"

Isla hesitated. "Maybe it’s... because of... the news about the CEO... The company’s stock has been... rather volatile lately!"

"Be specific!" Vera demanded.

Isla knew she couldn’t hide it from Vera, so she briefly explained the situation.

The news concerning Kris Cooper had already caused a significant uproar in the city, which had a tremendous impact on Glimmer. Its stock, which had been steadily rising since the company went public, had fallen nearly two percentage points in the past two days. Glimmer’s losses amounted to at least 300 million.

Vera’s expression grew even more somber. If Glimmer was in this state, then Ashton would undoubtedly be in a similar bind. The very thing she had feared most was beginning to unfold.

"Vera, I think you should talk to Mr. Cooper and the others about holding a press conference as soon as possible to give the public an explanation. If this continues, the company’s reputation will be seriously damaged!"

Vera nodded.

"Vera!" Isla placed her hands on Vera’s shoulders. "Are you okay?"

"I... I’m fine."

"I believe our CEO couldn’t have done this. The problem is, there’s been no official word from the company lately, and everyone is on edge. You all need to come up with a plan as soon as possible!"

"Yes, I know."

Isla looked at her, her eyes full of concern. "You look pale. Haven’t you eaten? Let me get you something."

Vera shook her head. Just as she was about to speak, her cell phone rang. Recognizing it as an unfamiliar number, she answered.

"Hello?"

"Miss, it’s me."

The voice on the other end was Kendrick’s.

"Kendrick?!"

"I’m in Nicosa now. Where are you and your grandmother staying? I’d like to visit you."

"Grandma... Grandma is at the old house. You... you can go directly there. I’ll head back at noon; I still have some company matters to attend to here."

After Kendrick hung up, Vera thought for a moment and then walked into the CEO Office.

"Isla, notify the heads of several departments to meet in the Conference Room."
