Chapter 674: Chapter 674: It Must Be a Coincidence (5)

Holding her close, Kris Cooper gently stroked her hair, his expression pained.

"Don’t worry, I will investigate everything thoroughly. Anyone who has harmed you will pay the price!"

Liliana Davis was already dead. And now he needed to investigate whether the Barker Group had any involvement in this matter. If they did, he wouldn’t let Barker off easy either.

"Hmm!" Vera Wave responded faintly, nestled in his arms. "So... do... do you have any leads now?"

Kris Cooper hesitated slightly. "Not yet... not at the moment."

There was a knock at the door, and a staff member from the detention center walked in.

"Mr. Cooper, your time is up."

"Okay." Kris Cooper leaned down and kissed her lips. "Go back and rest well. This matter will be sorted out soon."

Reluctantly letting go of her, he followed the staff member out of the reception room.

Sophia Thompson walked in, sat down, and requested, "Vera, let’s talk privately?"

Vera sat across from her, her hands crossed and clasped tightly on the table, her gaze resting on Sophia’s face.

"Sophia, can you be honest with me? Can Kris... be successfully exonerated?"

Sophia rhythmically tapped the documents beneath her. "The opposing lawyer can find countless loopholes in both the autopsy report and his statement, and your testimony doesn’t hold much weight. We need to find other evidence."

Vera frowned. "But there were only three of us there at the time. It’s impossible to find any eyewitnesses."

"That’s exactly the difficulty of this case." Sophia folded her arms. "Vera, think carefully again. Have you overlooked any details?"

Vera shook her head. Last night, she had racked her brain countless times; everything that could be said had already been told.

"In that case, let’s stop here for now." Seeing that she really couldn’t think of anything, Sophia stood up from her chair. "I’m going to check on the autopsy, see if there’s any new discovery."

"Sophia!" Vera rushed over and grabbed her arm. "Please, no matter what, you must save him!"

"I will do my best." Sophia offered her a reassuring smile. "Despite the difficulty of the case, don’t be pessimistic. After all, he’s not the murderer, right?"

"Of course he’s not! He didn’t do it! It was really just an accident. You must believe me, believe in Kris!"

"I believe you." Sophia took a shallow breath. "Unfortunately, the victim’s side doesn’t. So, we can’t play the emotional card. I have to find evidence now."

Just then, Lucille Matthias entered with Christoper Cooper and Bailey Hansen.

"Sophia, how are things progressing?" Bailey Hansen asked gravely. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"I need to go to the autopsy," Sophia said. She turned to Lucille. "Any news?"

Lucille nodded. "The news has already created a big stir. I just received a call from the higher-ups, ordering me to resolve the case quickly. It seems they’re insisting on formally filing it."

If things hadn’t escalated this much, she might have been able to stall for a few more days. But as it stood, she had no other option.

Sophia remained calm. "The other side definitely won’t give up. Filing the case is just a matter of sooner or later. This is fine. The sooner it’s filed, the sooner we go to court, and that will save everyone time. I’ll head off now."

Lucille nodded. "I’ll go with you. I’ll explain things to them; it should make your evidence collection easier."
