I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 588 - 586: The Truth about Amnesia (4)
After a gap of six years, she could finally buy wine openly. She laughed and then, she felt a slight urge to cry.
"Kris, how on earth have you been these six years?"
Kris Cooper smiled at her. ππ£πππππππΌππ²πΉ.ππ π
"That hundred millionβitβs what Iβve made for you over these six years!"
After his initial despondency, he had poured all his passion into his work. He kept himself busy every day until late at night, working overtime, again and again... He didnβt allow himself to rest, so he wouldnβt think of her.
It was precisely because of these years of relentless effort that his business flourished. When he said the hundred million heβd earned for her was from these years, he wasnβt exaggerating.
He spoke of it casually, but her heart ached for him. She put down her glass, walked over, and hugged him, sobbing.
"Silly girl, stop crying. You just need to compensate me in the future... once a day, thirty times a month, 365 times a year. You were gone for five years and ten months, so... just compensate me 2,100 times, and weβll call it even!"
She burst out laughing and playfully punched him on the chest.
"Arenβt you afraid of exhausting yourself to death?"
"To die in Veraβs embrace? Iβd be a contented spirit even in the afterlife!"
The two left the bar, went to whistle on the Brooklyn Bridge, and finally hurried off to Ebbatown to enjoy Ebbanese snacks.
They were joyful the entire way, their laughter echoing constantly, but they didnβt notice a figure secretly trailing them.
After staying out late into the night, Kris Cooper and Vera Wave returned to the hotel. They held hands as they stepped out of their car and into the lobby, Vera still smiling as she turned her head to reminisce with him about amusing incidents from their past. Kris listened with a smile.
A moment later, they entered the elevator, and the closing doors concealed their figures.
Outside the hotel, in the back seat of a taxi, a passenger wearing a duckbill cap muttered the name of another hotel in a low voice.
The taxi started. Light from the street lamps occasionally flickered into the back seat, illuminating the passengerβs face.
The passenger had pulled her cap down low, her face largely obscured by shadows. The long hair that spilled out from under her cap was dark and glossy; she was clearly a young woman.
Visible in the shadow of her cap were only her pointed chin and tightly pursed lips. Her skin suggested she was of Asian descent, and there was a hint of coldness at the corners of her mouth.
She gritted her teeth and spat out a sentence icily in her native language.
"I wonβt let you destroy everything thatβs mine. Absolutely not!"
The following day, Kris Cooper specifically took Vera to the suburbs to visit the old castle where he had helped her celebrate her sixteenth birthday.
As they drove past a dessert shop, Kris Cooper parked the car at the curb.
"Wait for me a moment!"
Vera sat in the car waiting. He jogged into the dessert shop and asked an employee to rush-make a birthday cake.
Despite all his meticulous planning, he had forgotten the cake. Thankfully, he spotted this dessert shop.
Vera, sitting in the passenger seat, watched him wave to her before entering the dessert shop. Guessing what he was up to, a smile tugged at her lips.
From behind, came the roar of a car engine.
She instinctively looked away from the shop and glanced at the rearview mirror. A car was veering from its lane, charging straight towards her.
Her brow twitched. She flung open the car door and, without a second thought, bolted out.
She had just leaped from the car and sprinted a couple of steps forward when the front of their car was violently struck. It careened onto the curb and slammed into a nearby lamppost.
BANG!
An earth-shattering, deafening sound.
Vera, heart still pounding from the shock, turned her head. She watched as the car that had just collided with theirs sped straight past the wreckage. Then, carried by its momentum, it flipped in mid-air and came hurtling down towards her.
She screamed and, driven by pure instinct, ran forward with all her might.
