I Am the Only Fertile Woman in the Game-Chapter 40 Do you keep your word?
The water was just right, and Qiao Suisui, half-reclined in the bathtub, let out a comfortable sigh.
The bathroom, already spacious, was now filled with only the sound of her stirring the water. After soaking for a while, her eyes began to droop. She wanted to stay awake, for her sixth sense told her that Zong Fang was surely observing her from somewhere. But her eyelids fought each other, and her consciousness sank unwillingly into slumber.
And so, Qiao Suisui fell asleep in the bathtub.
An indeterminate amount of time later, the man finally appeared. He walked to the edge of the bathtub and crouched down, his hand smoothing the wet strands of hair sticking to her ears and neck, and then just watched her, lost in thought.
Her face was only as big as his palm, her skin glowing white, now slightly reddened from the steam. Her long eyelashes dropped down as she slept, softening the hardest of hearts.
The man had his arm resting on the edge of the bathtub, half his hand submerged in the water, gazing at her sleeping visage for a long while. Then, he stretched his hand and pinched her cheek, squeezing the softness of her face into a mound of flesh. He released, then pinched again, repeating the action seven or eight times until the sleeping girl slightly furrowed her brow, and he reluctantly let her be.
Zong Fang’s lips curled into a smile, watching her and laughing involuntarily. His smile faded as his thoughts led him to a colder expression.
"Cunning humans,"
he muttered to himself before pinching her nose with a vengeance. He watched as she frowned in discomfort, her lips unwittingly parting and closing. He let go, then leaned in and kissed her.
Zong Fang pried open her teeth; what began as a punishing kiss became tender and entwined due to her unconscious compliance.
He lingered over her lips before letting go, the affection in his eyes not receding in time. Sensing the water was cooling, he lifted her out of the tub and wrapped her from head to toe in a towel. Seeing that she remained sound asleep no matter how he moved her, Zong Fang knew he had stressed her greatly.
Without further delay, he placed the small bundle from his arms onto the bed, covering her up to the chin with a blanket, and then dried her hair with a towel.
In this space where the flow of time was unfelt, Zong Fang cherished the moment, even entertaining the thought that it wouldn’t be too bad if they never left.
After drying her hair, the man lifted the blanket to check her body, his brow furrowing as he saw bruises on her waist and inner thigh.

In a moment of forgetfulness, he didn’t recall exerting so much force. Her skin was delicate; even a slight grip on her wrist was enough to leave red marks, not to mention the strength used in passionate moments.
If her body was bruised like this, then...
His gaze shifted towards her lower abdomen, his large hand covering the soft area the next second, his eyes filled with veiled concern. Without diagnostic equipment in this space, he could not be sure that such intense coupling had not resulted in a miscarriage...
He laid down next to Suisui, his strong arm wrapping around her and the blanket, pulling her effortlessly into his embrace. Suisui lay on her side, easily leaning against him when embraced, a sensation that harkened back to their time in Soter, where they held each other every night.
"Are you only this well-behaved when asleep..."
Zong Fang’s chin rested on top of her head as he bent down to kiss her forehead, then he, too, closed his eyes.
Qiao Suisui had a good night’s sleep and woke up with the light unchanged from before she fell asleep, yet she felt relaxed and her mood lifted.
Just as she was about to turn and sit up, her waist loosened, and someone moved beside her.
"Awake?"
"How come..."
She intended to ask ’how come you are here,’ but realizing that such a question might upset him, decided it was better not to provoke him at that moment. So she turned her tongue and said, "....just appeared?"
Indeed, the man seemed pleased by her words, and though his expression remained calm, the severe look from yesterday was gone.
"I thought a certain ungrateful person couldn’t wait for me to leave."
"How could I..."
Qiao Suisui thought to herself, how would I get out if you left?
"Are you feeling discomfort anywhere?"
She shook her head, her fingers unconsciously clutching at a corner of the blanket, and hesitated before asking, "When are we going out?"
At her words, Zong Fang’s eyes darkened slightly as he asked with a smile, "Isn’t it nice to stay here with me all the time?"
Qiao Suisui’s heart skipped a beat, fearing he would imprison her again, she said, "But after all, this isn’t reality, and there aren’t any people here..." Her voice trailed off as she saw the man’s smile fade and his expression grow solemn again. Eventually, she just opened and closed her mouth without making a sound.
Her eyes fell as she thought to herself: She didn’t want to reach a point where everything broke down, but if Zong Fang truly wouldn’t let her go, she would have no choice but to stop considering other options.
Zong Fang noticed her downcast mood, her silence and downcast eyes clearly indicating her unhappiness, which stirred up the irritability within him again.
"Qiao Suisui."
"Hmm?"
"Do you keep your word?"
Seeing she didn’t understand, Zong Fang asked again, "You said that as long as I let you live a normal life, you would stay by my side willingly. Was that true or false?"
She was startled, recalling the conversation but aware the meaning wasn’t quite this. However, looking into the man’s earnest eyes and feeling her heart race, she realized this was an opportunity, a chance to win his trust, one she had to seize.
"True."
She blurted it out, not giving herself any time to feel guilty.
"After we go out, take me to Soter for a bit of fun, will you? I’ve only stayed in the research center before; I’ve never seen what it’s like outside."
Zong Fang watched her tilt her head in fantasy, silent for a few seconds, then gave a ’hmm’ in response.
He hugged her from the front, his large hand stroking the back of her head, running smoothly through her hair.
"Remember what you said."
The two embracing could not see each other’s faces, and despite being in the most intimate of poses, their expressions were both utterly calm.
In the time that followed, Zong Fang prepared a simple nutritious meal for Qiao Suisui. Since there were no clothes to change into, she still wore the bathrobe when she came out.
Noticing she spent a little longer in the bathroom, Zong Fang asked, "Everything alright?"
She shook her head and said there was nothing wrong.
"Any bleeding?"
"Hmm?"
Only then did she realize that his persistent inquiries from the moment she awoke, asking if she felt unwell, were all because he feared she might experience threatened miscarriage like before.
"No... no."
Afterward, the two tacitly avoided the topic of whose child she was carrying.
Her heart suddenly experienced an indescribable sourness.
This man who had always been self-centered seemed to be more and more centered around her not only paying attention to her habits and caring for her with nearly meticulous detail but also because he was constantly nervous after having done that sort of thing with her without knowing she was pregnant.
She moved her lips, conflicted, wanting to say something but swallowed it back down.
She had thought that after dinner, Zong Fang would take her out. To her surprise, the two of them ended up in front of the same containers as yesterday.
