I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 112: Nominal Post
Facing the trio’s confused gazes, Zhang Tai explained, "All three of you made significant contributions to the case involving the Evolution Divine Teachings. According to protocol, the organization will be giving you a reward."
"What kind of reward?" Mr. Ya asked immediately. He was the poorest of the three.
Zhang Tai said, "A commendation banner and 500 bucks."
’That’s it?’
Su Ze and Mr. Ya didn’t say a word, but their expressions said it all.
Zhang Tai chuckled. "This is your reward as ordinary citizens for acting courageously. Based on your contributions, you should have also received contribution points. Unfortunately, those are only issued to public officials."
"Alright, Mr. Zhang, stop stringing us along," Su Ze said, cutting to the chase. "Just tell us what’s on your mind. Does the organization want to recruit us?"
Zhang Tai said, "We do have that in mind. As a professor at Dongli University, Mr. Liou is already a public official. As for you two, the original plan was to discuss this after your graduation. However, since you’ve made such a contribution, we thought we’d offer you an affiliate position ahead of schedule. This would allow you to start accumulating contribution points and grow faster in the future. What do you say?"
Su Ze had already learned from Mrs. Yun about the contribution points for public officials in the Dongli Kingdom. They could be used to redeem all sorts of resources from the national treasury.
Their value was comparable to the points from Evolutionary Technology, but they came with clearance restrictions. Without the proper clearance, you couldn’t redeem high-level Evolution Items no matter how many contribution points you had.
Furthermore, unlike the other points, contribution points couldn’t be privately traded; they were for personal use only.
Su Ze immediately declared, "As a citizen of Dongli, my greatest aspiration is to serve the people. If the organization needs me, it is my duty to answer the call!"
Mr. Ya grinned. "Same here!"
Zhang Tai had expected them to agree and handed a set of credentials to both Su Ze and Mr. Ya.
Su Ze opened his. Inside was some basic information.
Name: Su Ze
Department: Secret Operations Department
Rank: D-Class
...
"The Secret Operations Department? Isn’t that Mrs. Yun’s department?" Su Ze asked in surprise.
Zhang Tai nodded slightly. "It’s just an affiliate position for now. Your current priority should be your studies. Focus on graduating first."
Su Ze and Mr. Ya naturally had no objections. Since it was just an affiliate position, it didn’t matter which department they were in.
Zhang Tai continued, "Your rank also corresponds to your clearance level. The higher your rank, the higher the tier of resources you can redeem. You can see what’s available by logging into the organization’s intranet. Anything you’re able to view is something you can redeem. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Also, the ten thousand contribution points for the Evolution Divine Teachings case have already been deposited into your accounts."
Ten thousand contribution points was roughly equivalent to one hundred million Linbi. At this point, Su Ze couldn’t be bothered with such a paltry sum.
The ten thousand contribution points weren’t the main draw, however. What mattered was that this opened up a new channel for acquiring resources. There would be plenty of opportunities to earn more points in the future, like fighting in a few more Battles of Adjudication.
With everything settled, Zhang Tai didn’t linger and quickly departed.
As soon as Zhang Tai was gone, Su Ze and Mr. Ya immediately logged into the Dongli Kingdom’s official intranet. They found that with their current clearance, the selection of redeemable items was limited. The highest-level extracts they could obtain were only Tier 2. For Su Ze, only a few of the natural medicines were of any use.
’Looks like I’ll have to earn more contribution points and raise my clearance level for this channel to really be useful.’
...
The next day, the Dongli Kingdom’s government held a press conference, exposing the heinous crimes of the Evolution Divine Teachings.
The entire nation was shocked!
And then, the entire Lin Hua Continent was shocked!
The people of Dongli were furious. They took to the internet en masse, demanding severe punishment for all the criminals and calling for the Evolution Divine Teachings to be expelled from the Dongli Kingdom, never to set foot in the country again.
This had been the Dongli Kingdom’s intention all along. They immediately announced that clergy of the Evolution Divine Teachings would be banned from entering the country, that the organization was prohibited from engaging in any missionary activities within Dongli, and that all criminals involved would be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
They also promised to ensure every victim was properly cared for.
This barely managed to quell the fury and outrage of the Dongli people.
The other four nations on the Lin Hua Continent quickly followed suit, announcing they would also expel the Evolution Divine Teachings. They had never wanted the organization proselytizing on their soil to begin with; they had merely been lacking a good reason.
Now, the Dongli Kingdom had given them the perfect excuse.
They didn’t even bother to investigate; they just wanted to expel them outright.
Overnight, the Evolution Divine Teachings was condemned by all. The facade of benevolence they had maintained for hundreds of years was finally on the verge of being ripped away.
Yet, the government of Luofan Country remained indifferent.
The internet in Luofan Country was also in an uproar, with voices on all sides of the issue.
Unlike in other nations where the condemnation was unanimous, many people in Luofan Country spoke up in defense of the Evolution Divine Teachings.
Many of them were devout followers of the God of Evolution and believed that outsiders were spreading lies to slander their god.
They chose to turn a blind eye, even when the Dongli Kingdom presented irrefutable evidence at the press conference.
Of course, Luofan Country was not without its sober-minded citizens. Many people were demanding that the Evolution Divine Teachings get out of Luofan, but the Luofan government turned a deaf ear and a blind eye.
Countless Luofan citizens flocked to the entrances of the Temples of Evolution to throw trash, rotten eggs, and filth. At the same time, countless other citizens swore to defend their faith to the death, leading to violent clashes between the two groups.
Under this immense pressure, the Evolution Divine Teachings finally responded.
An Archbishop from the Evolution Divine Teachings issued a public response. He began with an apology, then claimed that all the atrocities in Dongli had occurred because someone within their ranks had forsaken God and fallen into the devil’s embrace.
A fallen member had emerged from within the Evolution Divine Teachings, and he was the one who had single-handedly orchestrated all these evil deeds.
Subsequently, the Evolution Divine Teachings handed the "mastermind" over to the Luofan authorities: an Archbishop at the Butterfly Stage.
Normally, Archbishops in the Evolution Divine Teachings were Saint-level powerhouses, yet this so-called Archbishop was only at the Butterfly Stage.
Anyone could see this was just a scapegoat set up by the Evolution Divine Teachings. The fall guy needed to have a sufficiently important identity, but the organization was unwilling to sacrifice a Saint-level expert. So, they found someone at the Butterfly Stage, slapped the title of Archbishop on him, and sent him out to take the blame.
The Luofan government played along perfectly, staging a "public execution" for all to see. In the capital, Moli City, they publicly executed the Archbishop in Triumph Plaza.
Watching the news, Mr. Ya shook his head, utterly disappointed in his former homeland.
Of course, the Evolution Divine Teachings never expected such a clumsy performance to fool everyone. They were simply giving their devout followers an excuse to remain in their ignorance, ensuring their faith would not be shaken by doubt.
Those who believed in the God of Evolution would believe the story no matter how poorly it was staged.
Those who didn’t believe in him wouldn’t have been convinced even if the performance was flawless.
Take Ancient An Country, for instance. After the Dongli Kingdom, it was the second of the six nations to expel the Evolution Divine Teachings.
’Ancient An Country...’ Su Ze had been keeping a close eye on the developments. When he saw the news about Ancient An Country, he couldn’t help but recall his suspicion that it was in collusion with the Filth Earth Organization.
