I Am Cultivating in the Apocalypse-Chapter 1014 - 1013: At Your Service, Ready for Your Guidance!
The Jing family looked at each other, feeling that Nanny Xie’s youngest son had a slim chance of survival.
However, Nanny Xie was quite persistent: "My youngest son is strong and healthy, it’s not easy for him to die. Even if something does happen, he’ll surely find a settlement to survive... I just want to ask if there are any shelters or refuges left over there in Wu City..."
Grandma Jing turned her gaze to her son and daughter-in-law: "You both work for the authorities, do you know anything about this?"
Mr. Jing coughed; his farm had no bearing on this situation. He then eagerly looked at his daughter: "Daughter knows more. She’s quite familiar with the higher-ups. Isn’t the last refuge in Wu City called Stone Garden?"
Mrs. Jing nodded as well: "Daughter, you seem to have connections with Stone Garden?"
Nanny Xie’s family looked towards the girl crouched in the corner, focused on eating.
Jing Shu nodded: "Before we migrated, Stone Garden was used as the final settlement and refuge. They would also collect those left behind in the surrounding areas who hadn’t migrated yet."
Nanny Xie’s family began to breathe heavily, unexpectedly having asked the right person today.
"I wonder if it’s inconvenient to inquire over there..." Nanny Xie seemed a bit helpless, "This is certainly not easy to deal with, you’d have to find someone on the inside, and even then, they might not tell you, given how many people there are..." She was quite uneasy.
Understanding the bureaucracy, you would have to ask internal logistics or unrelated people, and with Wu City being so large, you’d need one person to ask each and every connection, utilizing favors along the way. It’s been so long since the apocalypse, even with an advanced network it was hard to find people, let alone now...
"Even if it’s tough to find, it’s alright, just ask if someone knows anything about this, alive or dead, there must be something..." They can’t just disappear like that, right?
Jing Shu chuckled, surprisingly, they really did find the right avenue. If she were to look for Su Malie, it probably wouldn’t be as effective, for some of her people remain in Stone Garden.
Jing Shu said, "No need to be courteous, Nanny Xie. Finding one person isn’t a hassle. I’ll call them right now for you."
"Isn’t the phone line over there no longer operational?" Uncle Xie asked with some doubt.
Jing Shu waved her hand: "Internal, satellite phone."
The phone rang.
She turned on the speaker.
The three took a deep breath, feeling that the girl in front of them seemed unfathomable, possessing an internal satellite phone.
"Hello, this is the Stone Garden branch of the Wu City settlement point, where is this call coming from? What is your business?"
The staff member immediately realized the caller was no ordinary individual, given the encrypted internal satellite phone, thus being very polite.
"I am a shareholder, please transfer me to Minister Wang."
Jing Shu didn’t plan to have the staff find him because he didn’t have the authority and would certainly be hesitant in action. It’s better to directly find the top leader.
The staff hesitated but still transferred the call.
All three held their breath. A shareholder? Stone Garden’s shareholder?
"Who is it? Which shareholder is this? Currently, Stone Garden is in a closed phase, with the climate outside Wu City being cold and lacking resources. If it’s to deliver goods or live in Stone Garden, it may not be so convenient. Stone Garden isn’t a township enterprise, regardless of who you are, resources are allocated uniformly, there’s only so much available..." Minister Wang spoke absentmindedly, not in a good mood.
Remaining here was supposed to be an opportunity; he stayed, but what opportunity was there.
What of a shareholder? Stone Garden had many shareholders, none would work if the highest authority were to come.
He’d been here for so long; people constantly relied on relationships, and those township’s connections, getting him to share more resources with them, and deliver some to those who refused to migrate long ago. There were always endless issues.
Minister Wang was determined: if it’s a small shareholder with only a few percentage points, he would pretend there was poor signal and disconnect the call, seeing as Wu City was an abandoned city.
The sole major shareholder wouldn’t make this call. Thus he was dismissive, knowing whoever called would have something to request from him.
As soon as Minister Wang spoke, Grandma Jing, Nanny Xie, and others felt a jolt in their hearts; disaster, this person seemed very bureaucratic... this may not work!
Alas.
Nanny Xie understood and quickly said beside: "Daughter, we’re not asking for resources, just inquiring about someone, or trying to find out, if it’s really too difficult then..."
The newly ignited hope in Nanny Xie’s family of three began to flicker out, now they could only retreat and seek something less.
Who knew before Nanny Xie could finish speaking, Jing Shu gestured to stop them from speaking further, and instead said calmly: "It’s me, Jing Shu."
These four simple words.
The tone from the other end, which had been so discontent, paused for a moment, then swung 180 degrees, sounding much more ingratiating:
"Oh my, it’s Jing shareholder, how did you come to call through this line? Oh, I forgot, there’s no internet in Wu City, you could only use satellite phone to connect...
The people below are really incompetent, only saying shareholder, without specifying who it was... Oh, it’s rare for Jing shareholder to have time to call and inquire about our work, I truly feel honored.
Our Stone Garden’s work really relies on your guidance and support. If you have any guidance on our work, we will fully cooperate!"
Look at this flattery, patting it perfectly. Jing Shu clearly made the call to ask him to do something, yet Minister Wang turned it into seeking your guidance for our work.
