I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 260: Give me my gun
"I already told you I wasn’t mad at you." Paige suddenly said, reaching out to brush his cheek with her thumb.
She glanced at Jane and then back at him.
"I wasn’t mad at you but at myself. I know that the relationship you have with Jane is nothing more than it appears on the surface but I was being paranoid, thinking useless thoughts and weighing your feelings. If anything, I should be the one to apologize." She said,
Maxwell was silent. He looked aside. Even if that was the case, it was still his actions that caused her to feel that way. So he was to blame. He wanted to be the one to blame.
"Don’t blame yourself." Paige said to him. It was as if she had read his mind. "But you can do me a favor and minimize your interactions with her. I may understand but if people see you like that, they will start talking and say I’m being cuckold."
Maxwell’s eyes grew cold and his face contorted in anger.
"Who dares?" He growled but Paige shook her head.
"What? Will you kill everyone who speaks behind our backs? Though it’s not right to gossip about others personal lives, it’s your actions that cause them to talk. So best try not to give them anything to talk about, okay?"
Maxwell sulked and held her hand to his face, sinking his face into her warmth.
"Okay." He said. "I’ll be careful from now on. So please, smile, alright?"
Jane watched from the side. She felt relieved but at the same time, bewildered. Maxwell, this cold-hearted psychopath had such a soft side when in front of the wife he loves so much.
There was such a huge difference between how he treated his wife to the way he treated the rest of humanity at large.
"Pft, so childish."
Paige walked up to Jane with Maxwell holding onto her from behind. He kept his arms around her while following her like a kid.
’He really is childish.’ she thought and looked up at Paige.
"Jane, I hope he didn’t cause you too much trouble." Paige said to her and she grinned.
"Look around. I think that’s enough to answer your question." Jane said and Paige looked around.
She hadn’t noticed the surroundings since she had been so concerned with getting to Maxwell. He had broken most of the furniture. She held her head and sighed.
Of course, what could she expect from her mentally unstable husband? She should refrain from getting mad unnecessarily in the future. Who knows what he’d do next time?
Wait, did he kill anyone?
She sharply turned her gaze to Jane who read her mind and said,
"Don’t worry. He didn’t kill anyone." She said, smiling sheepishly. "But he did beat up a lot of thugs so you should check his knuckles and..." She tucked her hand in her purse and took out the gun. "...I confiscated this."
Paige’s eyes widened and she glanced over her shoulder at Maxwell who was already darting his eyes in guilt.
"How many times have I told you not to carry a gun around with you?" She asked. "Especially when going to parties."
"But anything could happen." He said and snuggled on her shoulder. "And I always want to be prepared to protect you."
Paige was at a loss for words. Nothing could be used as an excuse for his actions yet she couldn’t even bring herself to reprimand him properly.
"Hey." Jane called. "Quit putting your weight on her. Do you want her to have an aching shoulder by the morning?" She scolded, and Maxwell hesitantly took his head off.
"Does it really give you an aching shoulder?" He asked, displaying a set of vulnerable puppy eyes, causing Jane to suddenly have goosebumps.
To her, it was really cringe but to Paige, it was adorable, and she was just about to deny it when Jane intervened.
"Jeez, you’re so soft on him. No wonder you two are inseparable, softening up with one another." She rolled her eyes. "Of course, she won’t tell you it’s aching. She loves you, so she’s prepared to beat whatever pain you inflict on her. Hehe."
"Jane, stay out of this." Maxwell said, squinting his eye at her in a glare but she went ahead to pull down her eyelid and stick her tongue out like she was trying to agitate a baby. "You..."
"Now, now." Paige said, mediating between them both. "We’ve been away from the party for too long. I bet it’s almost over."
"You’re right. Let’s start heading back." Jane said, putting the gun back in her pocket while Paige went to settle the bills with the bartender, who in turn went to get his manager.
"Hey, that’s mine." Maxwell said, pointing at the gun she was putting in her purse but she gave him a smug look and zipped the purse.
"Oh yeah? But it’s in my possession though."
Maxwell’s eyes twitched. That was his gun. One of his precious babies. She couldn’t just have it.
"Give it back or I’ll make you." He threatened with a glare and she glared back.
"Oh please, go ahead. If you can." She dared and he gritted his teeth.
He couldn’t go too close to take it because she told him not to be involved in too much physical contact with her. Since it would only cause a misunderstanding. She would definitely struggle and it would look like they were playing around in Paige’s eyes.
"Do you even know how to use it?" He asked, folding his arms. "You could hurt yourself." He said but she rolled her eyes.
"Please, I’ve had shooting practices for a long time. I don’t need you to teach me how to use a m.b.h Glock 18." She said with a knowing smile and he gaped at her. "What? Did you think I didn’t know? I may not look it but I have a lot of interest in these things. Trust me, I’m a prodigy."
"I don’t care if you’re a prodigy. It’s mine so give it back." He said, "If you want, I’ll get you one some other time."
"How considerate of you. But I like this one so I’ll take it."
An irk formed on Maxwell’s head. Has there ever been a time when he was so mad at something that he couldn’t take action? Well, this was one. If it were someone else, he would’ve already caught them by the throat and strangled the living daylight out of them for trying to mess with him like this. But since it was Jane... He couldn’t even prick her with a pin.
"I get that you know your guns well, but this is mine, Jane. Give it back."
"Stop being petty, I know you have another in your coat." She said, putting him off and he touched his coat to feel his other gun. "Don’t look at me like that. I saw it when you pulled out this one."
"That doesn’t matter. I like using them in pairs. Give it." He stretched his hand to her. "Here."
"You know what? When you get me that new one, I’ll give this back to you. How’s that sound?" She proposed.
She really didn’t plan to give him back and was just stalling till Paige was done settling things with the manager.
"Or how about this? Take this as a price to pay for me patching your relationship. I did a lot of ’hard’ work, don’t you think?"
Maxwell looked away and then sighed. Looks like he would have to do this the hard way after all.
He took a step towards her but she went ahead to use the ultimate move.
"Oh no, Miss Paige, Maxwell’s trying to bully me, after all I’ve done for him." She yelled, causing Maxwell to pause. What the...? How dare she use his beloved wife as a cover?
He angrily wanted to charge at her but she quickly got behind Paige who was returning from settling the bills with the manager.
"What’s going on here?" Paige asked and Jane tucked her tongue out at Maxwell while hiding behind Paige. "Are you guys fighting?"
"Oh, it’s just a little spat. Maxwell needs to suffer a bit for our troubles. ’My’ trouble, to be more precise." She said with a sheepish smile. "You won’t try to make me give his gun back, will you?"
Maxwell’s fists trembled. He wanted to charge at Jane, tickle her till she was out of her wits, and get his gun back, but he could not do that while she was hiding behind Paige.
"Now, now." Paige said, smiling at Maxwell. "I know you like your guns but Jane has gone through a bit just to calm you down and get us back together. Don’t you think she deserves it, even if it’s your most prized possession?" She asked. "Did you not say she was a person you want to be good friends with? Friends share things, even their most beloved possessions."
"Do they?" Maxwell asked, rubbing the back of his neck and Paige smiled, staring silently at him.
She approached him and caressed his face. He never had friends so he probably wasn’t familiar with this fact.
"It’s okay, I’ll return it." Jane said, feeling uncomfortable with the sudden change in atmosphere but as she attempted to tuck her hand in her purse, he said,
"Don’t bother. Since it’s something a friend should be capable of, I guess I’ll do it. I’m not familiar with it but I guess I’ll have to start somewhere. I can’t risk being a bad friend, can I?"
Jane was stunned. Why the sudden change? She looked at Paige. What a strong influence she had on him.
Then, her phone started ringing and she picked up the call. Only for her eyes to widen in shock.
"What?!" She exclaimed, alarmed. "What do you mean they’re missing?"
Paige and Maxwell looked at her, wondering what she was talking about and she yelled. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"How did all three of them get missing?"
She cut the call and looked at them.
"We have to return to the party right away." She said, looking angry and anxious.
"Why? What happened?"
"I don’t know the shit that went on but Alexa, Rachael, and Romeo are all missing."
"What?!"
"They’ve been kidnapped."
