Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 590 - 144: Doffing the Armor
"Slaughter" was only missing one component, which was the ghostly golden mask worn on the face.
The ghostly mask wasn't lost. The agents responsible for cleaning up the scene found several gold fragments mixed in the pool of pus and blood that was "Ye Jiu." When those fragments were pieced together, it formed a complete ghostly mask.
"What's wrong with him?" Ye Xuan still maintained her posture with the gun pointed right at the center of Ye Jiu's forehead.
Sun Hang: "Looks like he's having a nightmare."
He tried to read Ye Jiu's thoughts, but the "Slaughter" worn by Ye Jiu created an invisible barrier that repelled all of Sun Hang's extending "consciousness tendrils."
"Tsk, quite a strong sense of privacy."
"What?" Ye Xuan asked puzzled.
"Nothing," Sun Hang looked around, "it's just a nightmare, waking him up should be fine."
"Do we... do we need to prepare anything?" Ye Xuan couldn't help but ask, "Are we just going to wake him up like that? Shouldn't we put some restraints on him? Or at least take off the Slaughter?"
"If we try to take something off him without dragging Ye Jiu out from the nightmare, I fear he'll just assume you're a monster from his nightmare and chop you up." Sun Hang finally found what he was looking for, walked over to the desk, and picked up a kettle.
The kettle was almost full, heavy when lifted.
Sun Hang unscrewed the lid and took a look. It's unclear how long the water inside hadn't been changed, but it's already cold.
Despite warm water probably being more effective, considering Ye Jiu's mood upon waking, Sun Hang still took the kettle of cold water and walked to the box.
"Wait, wait!" Ye Xuan looked at Sun Hang, utterly astonished, "What are you planning to do?"
"Of course," Sun Hang lifted the kettle right over Ye Jiu's head, "to wake him up a bit."
The icy water poured out of the kettle, splattering onto Ye Jiu's face.
Ye Jiu's body convulsed violently immediately, his right hand reflexively lifted, and the Wolf-tooth Spear gripped tightly in hand swung directly at the nearby Sun Hang.
Luckily, the Wolf-tooth Spear was disassembled into three parts when stored, so Ye Jiu was only holding onto a bare rod, unable to summon that strange flame. Sun Hang reached out, grabbed the rod from Ye Jiu's hand, and swiftly jammed it into the lid of the box.
In the next second, Ye Jiu sat up from the box as if he revitalized from a corpse.
His expression was struggling, his facial muscles twitching crazily like cramps… It seemed he wanted to open his eyes, yet his eyelids were glued shut as if with adhesive. It seemed Ye Jiu had used all his might, but those slightly parted eyelids remained immobile.
"Looks like I need to help you a bit more." Sun Hang muttered, reaching out to smack Ye Jiu hard twice across the face.
"Ah!"
Ye Jiu screamed, collapsing back into the box heavily, but the previously tightly closed eyes suddenly opened wide!
He began panting heavily, followed by extremely intense coughing.
"Awake now?" Sun Hang asked from the side, "If you're not awake, I'll keep slapping you!"
"Don't... don't!" Ye Jiu's body instinctively shrunk away from Sun Hang, his arms reflexively moving to shield his now slightly swollen face.
Accompanying Ye Jiu's movements, the armor's segments ground against each other, making a piercing sound. Ye Jiu himself froze. The fear in his eyes gradually turned to bewilderment as he stared fixedly at the ceiling lamp, murmuring after a long while, "I... am I back?"
"You've been lying in this coffin all along, never went anywhere," Sun Hang said.
"I..." Ye Jiu's breathing slowly calmed; he reached up to touch his now swollen cheek, instantly gasping with a "hiss" sound, "You... You hit so damn hard..."
"If it wasn't hard, you wouldn't wake up," Sun Hang said matter-of-factly, "Force acts mutually. Your face hit my palm, it hurt my hand, you should apologize to me instead."
"Oh... Sorry for... Sorry, your mom's head! You just keep spewing nonsense!" Ye Jiu quickly retorted, ready to get up immediately, but then a painful scream ensued, curling himself up awkwardly in the box.
"What's wrong? Is 'Slaughter' out of control?" Ye Xuan asked nervously.
"I don't know... but I feel like my limbs are somewhat uncooperative..." Ye Jiu replied.
"That's definitely out of control!" Ye Xuan rushed over, "Quick! Immediately inject the tranquilizer and muscle relaxant! Even if Slaughter controls the suited person, it won't cause too much damage!"
Inside the utility box for the ominous equipment, there was a hidden constant-temperature compartment, containing some emergency medication, including the tranquilizer and muscle relaxant Ye Xuan mentioned.
However, when Ye Xuan opened that constant-temperature compartment, her heart sank.
The disposable syringes for the medications were indeed still in there, but they were entirely empty.
Ye Jiu had already used up those medications.
"Quick! Sun Hang! Remove 'Slaughter' from him! It's okay if the ominous equipment gets damaged or he gets hurt! Hurry, it'll be too late soon!" Ye Xuan urgently shouted.
"Got it."
Many mycelia spread from Sun Hang's body, instantly wrapping Ye Jiu into a large cocoon. Without haste, Sun Hang began removing "Slaughter's" components one by one.
Compared to Europe's heavy armor that needed screws and rivets at the joints for fixation, the Tang Empire's armor was relatively easy to put on and take off. Sun Hang directly used the Liquid Metal Blade to cut through the fixing straps, and the heavy armor pieces fell away one by one.
Soon enough, all the armor covering Ye Jiu was removed, leaving only his pajamas soaked with sweat and crusted all over with white salt traces.
The fungal mycelia scooped Ye Jiu out of the big coffin-like box without any courtesy and tossed him onto the floor.
"Ow, my bottom!"
"What part did you want to land on? Your head?" Sun Hang glanced at him and asked.
"Couldn't you have just lowered me gently?"
"You're thick-skinned, you wouldn't get hurt from a fall." Sun Hang looked into the box at the armor and then back at Ye Jiu on the ground, "Can you stand up yourself?"
"No." Ye Jiu answered decisively, "I feel exhausted all over, and my limbs are vaguely cramping."
"Have the institute bring over an Eternal Freeze Coffin," Sun Hang said to Ye Xuan, "Put your brother inside it."
"Wait, wait! Why the Eternal Freeze Coffin? I'm not an infected one!"
