Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 389 - 38: "The Lady" (Part 2)
The noblewoman turned her head back to the front, and the deep red marks on her fair neck gradually faded away.
"Elegant, truly elegant." The third Sun Hang clapped his hands as he approached from the noblewoman’s side, "Although I can’t clearly see your face, judging by your figure and demeanor, you must be a rare beauty. Would the lady be willing to share a bed with me tonight?"
The noblewoman did not speak; instead, she turned her head to look at the third Sun Hang.
Or rather, that deadly bloodline that could cut through steel once again swept toward Sun Hang.
Having been on guard, Sun Hang ducked just in time to dodge the bloodline’s attack and then instantly moved forward, his right hand forming a fist, aiming at the noblewoman’s abdomen.
The imagined dull thud did not come; Sun Hang only felt as if his fist had plunged into some kind of liquid, passing almost without resistance through the noblewoman’s body, emerging from her lower back.
He suddenly recalled a classic line.
"Women are made of water."
The arm piercing through the noblewoman’s body was instantly twisted into minced meat by a tremendous force, and two bloodlines cut the third Fungus Puppet into three pieces from top to bottom.
"A bit tricky." The fourth Sun Hang stood up.
He hadn’t used the Liquid Metal Blade to attack just now but had gone directly with a punch, aiming actually to make direct contact and then plunder the opponent’s meme fragment... However, to Sun Hang’s slight surprise, after the Fungus Puppet’s fist pierced through the noblewoman’s body, the connection between the Fungus Puppet and Sun Hang’s main body was directly severed, with such speed that Sun Hang didn’t even have the chance to activate the Taotie ability.
Sun Hang glanced back at the Collection Device; out of the sixty or so indicator lights on the control panel, almost a third had turned from red to green.
As Sun Hang looked at the Collection Device, the noblewoman also cast her gaze in that direction—in contrast to Sun Hang’s gaze, her "gaze" had a physical presence.
A dozen mixed shields made of soil, stone, glass shards, liquid metal, and fungus broke out of the ground, rising up to block in front of the Collection Device, as the bloodline emitted from the noblewoman’s eyes cut through eleven shields in succession, only stopping at the twelfth one.
"I told you there’s construction ahead, you should take a detour... Are you fucking deaf?" Four Sun Hangs charged at the noblewoman from four directions, but the noblewoman merely turned her head around, slicing the four Fungus Puppets into eight pieces, which crashed to the ground.
"The entity’s body seems to freely switch between liquid and solid states, able to be immune to most physical attacks... Its attack method is to shoot high-pressure bloodlines from its eyes, a purely physical attack. Though the head turns quickly, there’s still a chance to dodge..."
Sun Hang silently noted the characteristics of the opponent while pondering the next tactics.
He didn’t necessarily have to kill this "noblewoman."
As long as he completed the collection of meme samples, he could leave with the samples directly. Given the opponent’s displayed ability, she couldn’t stop him.
What Sun Hang needed to do was just hold her off and ensure the proper operation of the Meme Collection Device.
He couldn’t kill, but buying time was straightforward.
Another batch of Fungus Puppets charged forward, this batch not only faster and stronger than the previous ones that were eliminated but also covered in a layer of armor made of liquid metal, looking from afar like a dozen iron-cast dolls.
Just as these ten or so enhanced Fungus Puppets neared the noblewoman, the skin on the noblewoman’s cheeks, neck, shoulders—all exposed skin instantly erupted with thousands of cracks.
The same number of bloodlines shot out, like the colored lights from a disco ball in a dance hall.
The enhanced puppets were immediately cut into fine pieces... Fortunately, the amount of blood simulated inside the Fungus Puppets wasn’t much, otherwise, even in a restricted movie, this scene might not pass the censors.
"Tch... Information update, besides the eyes, this thing can emit high-pressure bloodlines from anywhere on its body... So why did it bother to turn its head earlier? What a twisted sense of humor?" Sun Hang thought to himself.
"The bad news is the Fungus Puppets can’t beat her, the good news is there are plenty of Fungus Puppets... Even if they can’t win, they can at least prevent her from attacking the Collection Device."
The shredded Fungus Puppets reverted to their original form and were reabsorbed by the fungus network laid on the ground... For Sun Hang, the loss of a puppet was almost negligible.
Just as Sun Hang was planning to create more Fungus Puppets to overwhelm the noblewoman with sheer numbers, the noblewoman’s floor-length dress suddenly changed.
The skirt, like satin, began to extend and spread outward.
It no longer seemed like a fabric, but like spreading blood.
Wherever this blood covered the fungus network, the connection with Sun Hang was severed, and in just a few seconds, almost one-fifth of the fungus network that Sun Hang had laid down was lost.
"There’s that kind of trick too?" Sun Hang took a deep breath, "Then don’t blame me for being rough."
The ground trembled slightly as a giant hand made of rock rose from beneath the ground, grabbing the noblewoman’s body and hurling her far away.
"Fuck off." Sun Hang, controlling the giant rock hand, maintained the throwing pose, muttering softly, "Go back to where you came from."
The noblewoman was flung back into the rain, but her body transformed several times mid-air, and she ultimately landed softly on the ground.
Though she was thrown away in an undignified manner, her graceful landing restored some dignity to the entity.
Sun Hang was somewhat envious of the noblewoman’s abilities, but at the moment, he just wanted to quickly complete his task and leave this place—he didn’t know why, but there was a voice in his subconscious always urging him to leave immediately.
To get as far away from Chimera 17 as possible.
This feeling had been present since Sun Hang entered the "dry zone," and as the distance between him and the giant cocoon decreased and time passed, this feeling became increasingly stronger.
There’s no shame in running away.
The green lights on the Collection Device were already half lit.
Under the operation of a few Fungus Puppets, the massive hammer had already aligned with a certain point at the base of the giant cocoon, and the parts at the end of the hammer were rotating at high speed.
The erratic energy within the entity was turning into a blinding red... but unlike blood, it was a clear, transparent red. If I have to compare it to something, Sun Hang thought it resembled that kind of watermelon soda sold in vending machines—the kind that would dye your tongue with coloring after drinking.
Sun Hang took a step back towards the Collection Device, and dozens of newly generated Fungus Puppets also took a step back.
They formed a semicircle, protecting the Collection Device in the center.
Including the one Sun Hang just threw out, five noblewomen in red dresses appeared in the rain, elegantly walking toward this direction.
Sun Hang sighed helplessly, then shot out like an arrow from a bow.
The puppets followed him and charged out as well.
The best defense is a good offense; if possible, he would rather stall these five noblewomen outside the dry zone.
The further they were from the Collection Device, the safer it would be.
The speed at which the indicator lights turned from red to green was accelerating, Sun Hang estimated that in about thirty seconds, the Collection Device could begin operations.
As for how long it would take to collect the meme samples, Yang Qi hadn’t told him.
Sun Hang had privately asked Zhong Ling, but the latter only shook her head: "The speed of meme sample collection depends on the complexity of the target meme. I can’t give you an exact answer."
"At least give a vague answer, right?"
"No," Zhong Ling looked at him expressionlessly, "It could be over in a few seconds, or it could last several hours."
