Koa tapped beneath her chin, and she looked up at him. "You’re far from average, Keira. You gonna tell me what’s up now?"

Besides Rhea and Sora, Koa was probably closer to her, and she told him everything. They understood each other the most in the family.

They both felt inadequate, even if Koa never believed Keira’s words. But whenever she spoke freely about what was really eating at her, Koa never judged her or said anything just to make her feel better.

He was blunt, truthful, to the point.

With a sigh, Keira tugged the hairband out of her hair, brushing her fingers through her locks until she was happy with the curtain she always put between herself and the world. "Just some new guy."

Koa’s eyes glimmered amber, and his knuckles clicked as he rubbed his hands together. "What’s he done? I can have a word with him if you like?"

Chills ran down Keira’s spine at Koa’s menacing aura.

She glanced at him, cracking his knuckles. "I’m sure talking is all you will do," Keira remarked dryly before pushing herself off the ground and brushing herself down. "No, there’s no need. He hasn’t done anything. He’s just annoying."

Koa’s brows rose at that. "Annoying?" He glanced behind them where the guys from his class were now either sitting on the stands messing around and mostly watching Keira and Koa train or had dispersed to other classes or gone home.

"What fucker dare annoy my little sister?" He says menacingly, eyes narrowing. Then he looked at Keira. "And since when does anyone get under my sister’s skin?"

Keira froze under his suspicious gaze and then waved him off. "It’s not a big deal-"

"Big enough to let me land more punches than normal," Koa interrupted dryly, his arms crossing against his chest.

Keira swore she heard some girls swooning. It didn’t help that Koa was wearing a black tank top, fitted to his body and displaying his arms that were probably the size of her legs. Most of the werewolves looked good, they were all in shape.

As they started returning to the stands and buildings, Keira’s gaze locked with Kodi’s again. She thought he’d been long gone with the others, but unlike his classmates, he was under the bleachers, leaning against one of the poles. He, too, wore a tank top, but his sleeves were obviously slightly frayed on the arms like he’d intentionally ripped them off.

He was there with his usual little crew and two human girls who were taking the chance to get close to the new hotties in school. Kodi smirked at Keira’s approach before completely ignoring her and giving the girl leaning into him his attention for the first time since he’d locked eye contact with Keira.

"Finn’s here to collect you," Koa said quietly so only she could hear.

Keira looked up at him with a frown. "I don’t need him to-"

"Oh my gosh! Keira!" The blonde beauty who had been clinging onto Kodi’s arm rushed over to Keira, interrupting their conversation, her friend trailing behind.

Ah, now that she was closer, Keira remembered who she was. "Brit, how are you?" Keira put on her usual mask, and Koa, not so subtly, started to leave the conversation as soon as Sophie, her friend, began to speak to him about his ’mad skills’.

Sophie looked at a loss from his cold departure.

"I loved watching you train today. You and Koa are always exceptional, especially considering how much people comment about the importance of a wolf," Brit said, unaware of how deep the blade of her words would slice into Keira’s composure.

Britney was a human; most didn’t understand, and she was no exception. The girl spoke to Keira like others, gazing up at a celebrity or goddess. The only satisfaction Keira got from the conversation was that Britney left Kodi and rushed to speak to her.

Kodi scowled at the interaction, tsked and skulked off as Britney continued conversing with Keira, though she didn’t respond much, merely nodding and smiling.

Her phone rang, making her almost sigh in relief, giving herself an excuse to leave the conversation. Answering the call, she walked away with a smile.

"Ya welcome, bish!" Keira’s grin broadened, a genuine smile at the sound of Sora’s voice. She’d been away for half the summer searching for the shapeshifters that preferred to remain well hidden. Only a few, like her dad, Ajax, were known among society.

"Where are you?" Keira looked around for her friend.

"Oh, I’m just chilling, watching the school drama unfold," she said musically. "Damn, wish I brought some popcorn or something. First day back, and everyone is WILD. Like, who are these rogues, man?"

"Come join me, and you can get a lift back," Keira said, still searching for her friend.

"Nah, I prefer flying. Unless you need me to act as your guard from your little stalker friend."

Keira stopped and retrieved her bag from the ground. Honestly, no one was stupid enough to steal from a Cross.

"What stalker?" She looked around, but there was nobody watching her, and she was certain if Kodi was, she’d sense it. She didn’t know how she knew or why he affected her so much.

"Oh, you know… big bad and mysterious. Like damn, if anyone would stalk me … I’d rather it be him, ya know?" Sora giggled on the other end of the receiver.

"Seriously, where are you? Are you sure you’re not talking about yourself? You seem to be the only stalker around here?" Keira joked back, walking away from the grounds and towards the parking lot.

"I’ll see ya at home, baby girl." The phone line went dead.

Keira shook her head, still intent on riding back, until Finn stepped in front of her, followed by Rex. "I appreciate you coming to pick me up, but I need to get my bike back," Keira said politely, walking around the Delta and her usual bodyguard.

"Rex will take it back," Finn said, holding his arm out to stop Keira from walking further.

But that didn’t register when her sights were set on the bike and the punctured tyres. "What the-" She barged past Finn, rushing towards it.

"Keira, don’t," Rex called out, but she’d already seen the damage.

The sound of girls snickering nearby snapped her gaze up and immediately glared in their direction. They think it’s funny?

They were the obvious culprits of her punctured tyres. Otherwise, why were they set up in position, their phones raised.

They were most likely recording, preventing Keira from acting out. She fisted her hands and inhaled deeply. She didn’t recognise any of these girls, and she knew everybody.

Once her gaze fell onto Kodi behind them, leaning against a truck, arms crossed, watching the entire ordeal, as stoic as a rock, she knew the girls must be with him. There were more than a few new students this year and only a few had made it into the Special Grade classes with her.

Finn started to move towards them, his intention clear. "Don’t," Keira ordered her voice one of command. "Take me back, please."

"I’ll sort this out," Rex said, strolling towards her bike.

"Thank you." Keira turned her back on the new students, her mood darkening, and needing another session with Koa or to run, letting out this growing frustration.
