[ Damon]

After proposing, Damon and Aila were still in a blissful bubble. Their worries and troubles that never seemed to end were put on pause for a while. So much had happened to them that it was nice to have such a normal-ish experience. The proposal was something normal in the human world where Aila had spent most of her life. To him, it was a little different, but it was all worth it.

They mated throughout most of the night in both forms and let their wolves take over. It was romantic and steamy, and their pack was aware of their human proposal. They knew without being at the packhouse that Silver Crescent celebrated on behalf of their Alpha and Luna.

When they returned in the morning, the state of a few of the pack members was evidential. Damon called off the morning training. Even if he and Aila were not going, Chiara and Kane would have taken charge, but he believed they all needed at least one day off, including the warriors of the pack.

They were bracing themselves for the worst if their little meeting the following day would not go well between the supernatural creatures and humans.

It was a big day, but Damon didn’t plan on having his mate worry over it. There was nothing more to prepare for it. The leaders would come to their own conclusion, and hopefully, it would work out for the best. For today, he planned to keep Aila preoccupied with a little light dating.

Their relationship had never been normal, and they hadn’t had time to do such sweet things. Damon wanted to spend this time with Aila, watch her smile and laugh. Work was always going to be there, but if he’d learnt anything since the first time he took her from the hunters and then from people like Clint and Cassius, every moment counted.

Tomorrow might never come for him or his mate, and so he planned to spend as much of it with her as possible.

Now, they were leaving the packhouse, Finn and Daren following the cars that had been parked outside the front of the mansion, ready for Damon to use and the Delta and ex-Delta to follow behind. Damon asked for one of his sports cars this time while leaving Finn and Darren to the usual blacked-out SUV. He opened the door for Aila, who Damon couldn’t keep his eyes from.

Aila’s legs were on show today. She wore military boots with a short light pink ballerina-type dress with a sheer ruffled skirt and a black leather jacket. Damon wanted to fuck her there and then. She looked smoking hot, with light makeup and her hair pulled back into a loosely curled ponytail, but he resisted the urge.

His wolf was already imagining bending Aila over with that tutu-type skirt in the air as he spanked her and took her from behind. Damon shook his head, catching his mate blushing like she knew exactly what he was thinking. Oh, she loved him and his kinky wolf.

Damon also glared at any male nearby watching the pair when Aila bent to get inside the car. A growl escaped his lips at two werewolves looking at their Luna’s legs. The moment they were caught staring, their faces paled, and they lowered their heads in respect before running away.

"Young werewolves," Darius growled. "No respect. Should cut their eyes out for that. They were also probably thinking of their Luna like we were."

Damon walked around the car, his eyes still locked on the werewolves running away.

"Did you need us to punish them?" Finn asked through a mind-link. Finn and Darren were standing only a few feet away, his eyes also on the retreating wolves while Darren surveyed their surroundings.

Damon shook his head to both Darius and Finn. "They’re not causing any harm," he responded to them both. His mind did linger on punishing them, though, if they acted in such a way again. He remembered how they looked, but like Darius said, they were young.

He and Aila were young, but they looked to be between 18-20. Old enough to know better, but his look seemed to warn them, and he could smell their fear from here.

Good.

"So… where are we going?" Aila asked, oblivious to what had happened.

"Cinema and dinner, my angel," Damon replied with a grin and started the car.

Parked up outside the shopping centre, Damon scanned the streets. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, and it was full of people shopping and going about their business, friends hanging out, and young and old couples also on dates. Nothing seemed amiss.

They were in Silver Thorne town centre, and it had been a while since they were there. To be specific, it was when everything kicked off with the hunters, Hollie’s death, and a few others, Chiara killing Lydia, who brought rogues to the packhouse. He glanced at Aila and could see she was thinking the same thing.

The bond and her face revealed the slight sadness she felt at being there.

"All clear," Finn mind-linked the pair.

Damon cleared his throat, kissed his mate on the cheek, holding her gaze for a moment before sliding out of the car that was already gaining attention from those nearby with love hearts in their eyes, and he opened the door for Aila. More people pay attention to them now. A few of their mouths even dropped open from looking at the pair.

Damon smirked, he was used to women staring at him, but there was something other than an interest in everyone’s eyes.

Recognition.

Silver Thorne had always been aware of the pack and the territory. Many stayed clear of them and didn’t really know who the werewolves were. There were a few obvious indications, though, most werewolves were built how humans wanted their bodies to be like, and many found them attractive. Only those who lived there were aware they could possibly be a werewolf.

When a couple like him and Aila showed up, they could almost look like celebrities with their looks, especially when Finn and Darren were their security. Damon didn’t want that security initially, but it was always better to have more protection than none, and a situation arose. Besides, the damned Delta had been whining about not coming.

Finn didn’t care about having to follow them and wait nearby. Being watchful, it was his job, and he was just as protective of Aila as he was. That was what a Delta was. He was extremely loyal.

But it was wholly on the Luna. Finn was still loyal to Damon, but if something ever happened, like Aila wanted to run away and never be found, Finn would be the one to go to. He would choose his Luna over the Alpha. That would never happen, but Finn would be the guy to go.

Damon slid his fingers into Aila’s after pressing the button to lock the car, and they began going down the sidewalk.

"So, do you want to watch a rom-com or something funny or action-packed?" Aila asked, then glanced at Finn, smiling. "We all need to decide, after all. I can’t have my Delta bored out of his mind."

Damon growled at that, feeling a spark of jealousy though he knew it was stupid. His hand tightened on hers, and she whipped her head forward to meet his eyes.

"You guys choose what you want to watch. We’re not here to have fun. We’re here to guard you," Finn said from behind them. Darren was further back, keeping his distance and scanning the streets.

Aila rolled her eyes. "You really need to chill more."

Damon smirked at that. Finn was the last person to ever relax outside. It was in a Delta’s nature to be anxious, especially for their Luna. So, when Aila was taken by Cassius, Finn was wracked with guilt, blaming himself, and Damon didn’t help. He didn’t blame the Delta, really, but he wouldn’t let him forget how his Luna, his Queen, had been taken when Finn was meant to be protecting her.

But they both let her down.

It didn’t matter now. It was in the past. Cassius was locked away in the.. underworld, which Damon wasn’t aware was real. They followed a Moon Goddess, but something like the whole Greek mythology being real and Gabriel locking his brother away in the underworld was a little out there, even for an Alpha werewolf.

Aila tilted her head to the side. "Is it just me, or is everyone staring at us?" She looked behind her as though she might see someone else the public seemed interested in.

Damon glanced around, and he felt his chest tighten, and his wolf stirred a little. Aila was right. Everyone was staring or pretending not to look, only to look in their direction when they passed them. Harry told them humans were a little unpredictable at the moment and to be wary.

He could see why now. But the town had always been aware of them, and accepted their existence, so why were they looking at them in such a way? They looked at them in slight fear, widened eyes, and recognition.

Damon frowned at that and gradually pulled Aila closer to his body. He tensed at the sound of running footsteps along the shopping centre floor and started to grow his claws, ready to attack, only to stop. Children ran up to them, eyes wide, sparkling with wide toothy grins.

"Are you werewolves!? Are you Aila Cross?" They asked excitedly.

The pair paused, glancing at each other warily.
