How I Tamed My Wolfish Husband Back in 80s-Chapter 41 - Thief_1
41: Chapter 41: Thief_1
41 -41: Thief_1
“I…..” Li Jinhua opened her mouth but was at a loss for words, unable to justify herself, and said meekly, “Even if there were straw, I wouldn’t be able to do it.
Third sister, please help me out.”
Li Qiao was speechless, “You can’t even make a rope?”
“I can make a rope, I’m talking about weaving a net.”
When they reached the classroom, Han Ting and Du Xinxin fixed the desk for Li Qiao, while Li Qiao helped Li Jinhua weave the net.
“What are you all doing?
It’s almost bedtime, move it!”
A stern voice echoed in the empty classroom.
Li Qiao looked up to see the teacher on duty wearing an armband; she greeted the teacher and obediently explained the reason for their delay.
The teacher on duty softened upon hearing this, “Fixing a desk, huh?
Be quick about it, there’s less than half an hour until the dorm shuts off the lights.”
“Yes!
We’ll be done soon,” Li Qiao said.
Not long after the duty teacher left, Han Ting finished the desk, and Li Qiao also finished weaving the net.
After walking together for a while, Li Jinhua was the first to return to the dorm, and Li Qiao saw off Du Xinxin and Han Ting.
On her return, the dormitory gate was closed, and she spent a good while calling to be let in.
The dormitory supervisor scolded her for not adhering to dormitory rules.
Li Qiao apologized desperately.
Seeing her sincere remorse, the dormitory supervisor nagged her for a bit and then opened the door to let her in.
The lights in the dormitory had already been turned off.
Li Qiao felt her way in the dark to prepare to wash up, only then did she realize that the water in her thermos was gone.
She fumed, “Which nitwit took my hot water.”
Could it be Li Jinhua?
She looked towards Li Jinhua’s bed, where she lay motionless under the covers.
They had parted less than ten minutes ago; had Li Jinhua fallen asleep so quickly?
“Who would use your water, huh?”
“Exactly, we’re not without!”
“Running around in the middle of the night instead of sleeping, what are you up to?!” Anyone who can see eye to eye with a Loser definitely isn’t decent.
God knows what shameful business you’re getting up to behind your classmates’ backs.
Hu Xiufang said, “Li Qiao, I have half a bottle of water left; you can use it.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it, hurry up and get washed, we have to get up at five-thirty tomorrow morning for exercises.”
“Yes.” Li Qiao washed up and went to bed as quietly as possible.
Li Jinhua peeked her head out from under the covers, stealthily glanced at Li Qiao, and the corner of her mouth turned up in triumph.
You just wait to be miserable during this half-year of retaking classes!
…….
Li Qiao was woken the next day by a whistle, seeing everyone rushing to dress and put on shoes.
She did the same and, in less than three minutes, had washed her face and brushed her teeth, and rushed to the classroom.
Most students had already gathered.
The missing students were ignored by the teacher, who led the rest around the forest for two laps before beginning the morning reading session.
Li Jinhua stuttered through her reading.
In contrast, Li Qiao read fluently; how did this woman manage that?
After morning reading, everyone returned to the dormitory to grab their lunchboxes and take them to the cafeteria to steam.
Li Qiao noticed that the bag she used for her buns seemed shorter.
Upon lifting the lid, she was startled.
The school had started again just yesterday, which was a weekend.
Boarding students had to stay until this Saturday noon.
Her grandmother had prepared her twenty buns; she had only used three for that meal, leaving only thirteen, four short.
Two buns per meal?
Connecting this with the previous night’s hot water incident, she decided to catch the culprit red-handed on the spot.
She took her lunch box and went out, waiting outside the dormitory gate, waiting until everyone else had left, but Li Jinhua was nowhere to be seen; she had a hunch.
Immediately, she turned back, launching a surprise attack and saw Li Jinhua taking two white buns from her own food pocket to put in her lunch box; she flew into a rage.
“Li Jinhua!”
Li Jinhua shuddered, and the lunch box fell to the ground with a clang, the white buns rolling a few times on the ground.
“Third…
third sister, I…” Li Jinhua stuttered in panic.
After Li Qiao entered the room, Li Jinhua quickly shut the door, cutting off the prying eyes from outside.
“Third sister, I wanted to eat your buns, was afraid you wouldn’t agree, so I…” she offered two of her sorghum buns in exchange.”
Li Qiao clenched her fists, “Exchanging sorghum buns for white flour buns, and four for two at that, shameless enough to say it!”
“Keep your voice down; how embarrassing would it be if someone heard?
You’re my sister, it’s not too much to eat a couple of your buns.”
Li Qiao was stunned by Li Jinhua’s audacity; even blood brothers would keep clear accounts!
And they weren’t even full siblings!
She gritted her teeth, “Did you ask me?
You took secretly, two at a time, did you think about how I would manage the next few days without my dry food?
And my hot water, is it you who’s been using it?”
“I didn’t,” Li Jinhua denied with a flicker in her eyes.
Li Qiao snorted coldly, ‘I didn’t’, she thought sarcastically!
She took back her own buns, brushed off the dirt regretfully, and peeled off the outer layer.
“If anything of my dry food goes missing again, or water is used, just wait for me to tell the teacher, tell our parents!”
Li Jinhua pursed her lips, “What if someone else takes it in the future, will you still blame me?”
“Who else was caught red-handed?” Li Qiao grabbed four sorghum buns from Li Jinhua’s bag, “We’re even now!”
Li Jinhua: “….” She had only brought twenty buns; if four were taken away just like that, wouldn’t she also run out of food on the last day?
This woman is ruthless!
Li Qiao gave Li Jinhua a look as she organized her dry food and walked away with her lunch box.
Li Jinhua cursed under her breath, “Old cheat!
Just you wait!”
Someday, I will let Qin Jin see your true colors!
By then, you’ll lose both your reputation and your possessions.
….
After putting her lunch box in the cafeteria, Li Qiao went straight back to the classroom to study.
The first class was math.
Li Qiao sat upright, attentive, drawing the teacher’s notice, and was called to the board to solve a problem.
Li Jinhua didn’t believe Li Qiao could do it because she didn’t understand any of it herself.
But Li Qiao walked up to the board and wrote swiftly.
The answer was neat and correct, earning the teacher’s lavish praise, “Li Qiao’s handwriting is really good; the beginning of each line is aligned, I would hate to deduct marks even if there were a mistake on a test.
Tell us about how you approached solving this problem.”
Li Qiao articulated the process clearly.
Li Jinhua was so shocked she nearly fell off her stool.
How could Li Qiao understand this?
It just didn’t make sense.
“Quite a solid foundation,” the math teacher complimented, “You may return to your seat now.”
Li Qiao, as if on cue, went back to her seat.
Li Jinhua asked her how she learned the material.
Li Qiao ignored her: the nerve!
Stealing her buns and water, always trying to chat during class time; it was too annoying!
Just thinking about spending the next six months sitting together.
Made her skin crawl!
She couldn’t wait to ask the teacher to arrange a seat change.
Li Jinhua pouted; it was just one problem correctly answered; what was there to be smug about?
The teacher assigned homework and Li Qiao went to the latrine before returning to work on it.
Hu Xiufang approached her, “Li Qiao, you’ve changed after half a year.”
Li Qiao was surprised; Li Jinhua hadn’t mentioned a change, how had Hu Xiufang noticed?
“What’s changed?”
“Your attitude towards studying.
Although you were already near the top in our class, you never studied after class.
You can be serious now; you will definitely get into college this year.”
Li Qiao smiled, “I met some educated youths from our village and promised to take good notes at school to share with them later, so I have to do my best with the teacher’s assignments; only then will my notes be of any use.”
“No wonder they sent you to school.
Still, with teachers, we can hardly get in, not to mention them without teachers, working in the daytime; it’s pointless to even read,” Hu Xiufang said unmoved.
