Chapter 486: Hidden Zone

“Stop talking in circles. Just tell me what I need to do.” Gao Ming was in a time crunch. He was there for the interview to join another haunted house.

“First, you need to prove your bravery. I need you to enter Sick Room 0 at the end of the corridor and retrieve the key left behind by the lead nurse. Then, you need to enter the toilet alone to express your innocence to your reflection in the mirror. You don’t need to worry about the despair. Once you take the lead nurse’s key, you’ll be targeted by every doctor at this hospital and isolated by the other patients. You can only rely on yourself.” Dong Guo smiled horribly, “What do you think? Are you scared?”

“Why should I be scared? Don’t I have you with me?” Gao Ming looked at Dong Guo. “Where is Sick Room 0?”

“Follow the red lights. I’ll wait for you at the toilet entrance.” Dong Guo left the blind spot. She bent down and crawled away.

“I was not that interested in this haunted house at first, but its background seemed to be related to Immortal Pharma. What is inside this black box?” Gao Ming moved down the dark corridor. Whenever the red lights lit up, new monsters would chase after him until he reached the second floor. “There’s another floor above this?! How big is this place?”

Once he climbed up the stairs, the red siren came on again. The monsters stopped when they reached the staircase. The second floor appeared to be forbidden to them.

The walls changed. An old pathway appeared mysteriously. A lot of patient lists appeared on the wall. They were filled with scratches. The dust settled. This hidden corridor hadn’t been used for a long time already. Gao Ming had already been separated from the other visitors and entered a new zone.

“All the patients on the lists are children. They are all less than 10. They suffer from all kinds of illness.”

Many toys were scattered in the corridor. There were wooden horses with missing legs and dolls with empty eyes. Basically, all the toys were stained with blood.

He kept moving forward. His shoes touched something sticky. It looked like blood that was stuck with strands of black hair.

The corridor exuded a lot of pressure. It created a feeling that everything was slowly spiralling out of control.

“Room 0?”

There was no room at the end of the corridor. Only an old classroom. There were 31 shrunken tables. Each table was pasted with a death portrait. Gao Ming’s brain squeezed with pain when he saw the portraits of the children. The black-and-white faces flashed through his eyes. They seemed to be important to him. Gao Ming ignored the key hanging on the doorknob and entered the classroom. He sat in the seat in the middle of the room. Static came from the speaker. The background music began. It was mixed with the crying and laughing of children.

“We are the most perfect children. We are the most despairing children.

“We are birds trapped in cages. We are the bridge that leads to another world.

“We welcome you.”

When the last sentence ended, the lights in the classroom changed. Figures of mutated children appeared in every seat. They turned in unison to look at Gao Ming. Pairs of eyes focused on Gao Ming. His figure overlapped with a child’s. The child seemed to have grown into his body as if he was that child.

“You wander in the nightmare and walk along the edge of hope. Guess whether we still exist in the world where you have already grown up.”

The pale faces moved close to Gao Ming. Other guests would have fainted, but Gao Ming only frowned.

“Hope is hidden inside the box that cannot be opened. Only the most despairing person can be its owner. Let us look into your eyes to see your resolution; Let us look into your soul to see your kindness; Let us look into your heart to see if there’s true despair in there!” ᚱâℕօβÊŚ

The children crawled towards Gao Ming. The small hands grabbed his body as the children tried to crawl into his brain.

“You have to find the black box. Don’t let anyone who might suffer greater despair than you appear in this world…” An adult male voice that was distinct from those of the children, floated into Gao Ming’s ears. Gao Ming stood up immediately. He turned to the second row of the tables. The voice came from Table 2’s drawer.

Gao Ming reached into the drawer and found nothing. “It feels like the owner of this place has been trying to tell me something.”

The handwriting carved into the tables, the manufacturer of the toys, and the medicine suggested by the lists… were all related to Immortal Pharma. This was more than a mere Easter Egg. The boss was dropping hints that Immortal Pharma had committed a great sin, but that had been covered up.

“I’ve heard many people mention a taboo incident in Xin Lu. What was that taboo incident?” Gao Ming relied on Immortal Pharma’s technology to wake up from his coma. He only knew that Immortal Pharma was one of Xin Lu’s leading companies and hadn’t been abandoned by time.

“Hey, how long do you plan to stay in there?” Dong Guo appeared at the classroom window. She sighed helplessly. “Didn’t I tell you to grab the key? Why did you sit inside the classroom?”

After Dong Guo assigned Gao Ming the mission, she planned to leave and scare the others. However, she was told on her earpiece that Gao Ming had entered an open zone, and she was required to lead him away. Therefore, she crawled back to Gao Ming. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Dong Guo removed the key from the door and glanced inside the classroom. As a worker, she felt that this place was creepy.

“Have your boss worked at Immortal Pharma before? Has that company really performed experiments on children before?” Gao Ming sat inside the classroom, his body covered in lost souls.

Dong Guo frowned. She wondered if Gao Ming had truly lost his mind. Her workplace had nothing to do with Immortal Pharma. However, the script did mention the director using children to create a classroom of despair.

“The monsters are coming! We need to run!” Dong Guo entered the classroom. She wanted to drag Gao Ming away, but she lifted her head and saw Gao Ming caressing the death portraits of the children.

Perhaps it was an illusion. Dong Guo swore she saw the child in the portrait of Table 2 smile. With a shiver, Dong Guo felt like Gao Ming was communicating with the children inside the portraits.

“This is so creepy.”
