Chapter 470: Weave

“Hen Shan Penitentiary?” Something was triggered in Gao Ming’s brain. He turned to Tang Qing. Coincidentally, Tang Qing also turned to look at him. Their eyes met. Tang Qing smiled politely, “This friend appears to be familiar with Hen Shan Penitentiary.” Only two kinds of people would be familiar with a prison. Either they worked there or were imprisoned there. However, Tang Qing knew most of the prison staff.

“The place feels very important to me.” Gao Ming said under his breath, but most people heard him. They involuntarily moved away from him.

Seeing their reaction, Gao Ming smiled sadly, “I’m a teacher from Xin Lu First High. You can call me Gao Ming.”

“What a strange name.” There was a retired auntie who glanced at Gao Ming. She was the oldest among the middle-aged people.

Twenty minutes soon passed. The garage door on the side of the warehouse slowly opened. There was a modified car inside the garage.

“Everyone will get on and take their seats according to the number on their bands. Put on the seatbelt, and we’ll soon depart.”

Everyone started to move. Only Gao Ming stood outside the car. His pupils narrowed, and his breathing became urgent. It was like he was suffering from a panic attack.

“Are you alright, Brother?” A young man with dyed brown hair patted Gao Ming’s shoulder. “My name is Xu Deyi. I used to hang out at Sea Sand. Our boss died from injection at Hen Shan Penitentiary.”

“Why are you telling me this? I’m really a teacher.” Gao Ming shook his head. He got in the car and went to his seat. The door closed. The voice started to explain the things for them to pay attention to. The black box’s voice told them to lean their backs against the chairs. A few seconds later, Gao Ming felt a jolt of pain in the back of his neck. Then, his eyes darkened. Moments later, he recovered. He touched his neck and looked around. It didn’t seem like anyone else noticed this.

“Someone will be waiting for you at the destination. When you pass all the tests, you’ll enter the real Brain Realm Game.” The robotic voice came from everyone’s seats. Gao Ming looked around. He felt like something was wrong.

The driverless car moved out of the garage. The car moved quickly. The group was shuttled otu of Xin Lu to a desolate place. The 13 people sat inside the car. Xu Yajing, who was chatting happily at first, also quieted down after two hours of driving.

“I should inform Liu Yi. She must be worried if she doesn’t find me at home.” Gao Ming took out his phone to call Liu Yi, but there was no answer. He sent a few messages, but there was no reply. “There’s a signal, but I can’t reach her. Why?” freewebnøvel.coɱ

The light outside the windows dimmed. The sun moved down the horizon. The car only stopped when it was fully dark.

“You need to enter the building outside and complete the requests of the personnel waiting for you there. Pay attention to your safety.”

The robotic voice ended. The car door slowly opened. The wind in the countryside appeared colder than in the city.

“It’s so dark now. Where are we?” The retired auntie’s name was Wang Shimei. She didn’t seem that interested in the test. Along the way, she kept grumbling about needing to go to the school to fetch her granddaughter, but no one responded to her.

“Auntie Wang, since we’re here, why don’t we take the tests? When we enter the game, we can earn a lot of money, and the time will be very flexible.” Xu Yajing comforted Auntie Wang as she descended from the car.

“Does this place even exist on Xin Lu’s map?” Tang Qing grabbed the door, and his nostrils twitched. “There’s a burnt scent in the air. There are people burning stuff in the nearby building.”

After everyone got out of the car, the car door slammed shut. The light in the car went out. The only light source came from the building before them. The building had three floors and a mottled outer wall. Vines crawled up the walls. The leaves looked like children's faces as they swayed in the wind. The floor and walls had signs of fire on them. The building had been renovated, but the workers were very unprofessional, leaving many traces of fire behind.

“Is someone here?” Auntie Wang shook the door, accidentally breaking the lock. She pulled out the door. “Immortal Pharma is such a big company. How are they so unprofessional? When I return to Xin Lu, I’ll get my son to lodge a complaint about them.”

“Be careful.” Tang Qing frowned as he held Auntie Wang back. “We’re in their territory now.”

“So what?”

“I’ve heard that Immortal Pharma has conducted much illegal research behind the scenes. They are mostly related to the human body. No one knows how advanced their biotech is now.” Tang Qing was not trying to scare Auntie Wang. He knew Immortal Pharma was the culprit behind the big incident at Xin Lu many years ago. 𝐫ἈNỗ₿ÊS

“Let’s find the personnel here first.” The person who spoke was a student. He was probably in high school. He looked so young, but he tried to act tough.

“But where are they?” Xu Deyi found a wooden club and held it in his hands. It made him feel better.

“Let’s follow the light.” Gao Ming glanced up. The only light was on the second floor.

“Wait.” Tang Qing found something. He knelt on the ground and righted a shop banner that lay on the ground. “Official Jiujiang Meat Noodles?”

“Why would a shop banner be here?” Xu Yajing astutely pointed out the problem.

“Jiujiang Meat Noodles, fire…” Tang Qing remembered something. “There was a death row inmate that came to Hen Shan several years ago. He came from Jiujiang. He had a meat noodles shop near the factories in Xin Lu countryside. Due to his fair price, his place was well-loved by the workers. However, one day, he murdered his neighbours. After he surrendered, he only wished for a quick death.”

“Does he have no family?” Xu Yajing was curious.

“No. He was very hardworking. He looked honest. He didn’t befriend anyone in the prison. He’d occassionally touch the wall like there was something there.” Tang Qing had a deep impression of that inmate because he gave him a different feeling.

“Since the shop sign is here, could the people here be related to him?” Xu Deyi thought of a scary thing. “Perhaps he had an accomplice. After all, it’d be hard for one person to kill so many people.”

“Don’t scare us.” Auntie Wang was quite scared. “Regardless, we should find the personnel first.”

The group walked past the trash. They came to the second floor using the old staircase. The weak light came from the gap underneath the door of Room Four.

“Is someone here? We’re here for the brain realm game test.” Auntie Wang knocked on the door. The sound of heavy movement came from inside the room.

Then, an excited voice began. “Is it little sister? Is little sister home?”

The voice was very harsh, like the person’s throat had been burned.
