Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 506 : Story 506: Shadows of the Forgotten Village
The ZETU convoy came to a halt at the edge of a desolate village. The moon's pale light barely illuminated the eerie sight ahead: charred wooden cottages surrounded by shambling figures. Flames flickered in the distance, licking the edges of the central square, where the smell of burning flesh was thick and overpowering.
"Another village wiped out," Captain Marcus Kane muttered, his voice heavy with frustration. "Zombies don't burn villages. Something else is happening here."
"Scans show concentrated movement near the square," Ethan "Brain" O'Connor reported, studying the drone feed on his tablet. "Looks like survivors are trapped in the main hall, surrounded by a larger-than-usual horde."
"Time for us to thin the herd," Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart said, loading a fresh canister into her flamethrower.
"Riley, find a vantage point. Shield, Huntress—you're with me," Kane ordered. "Blaze and Brain, hold the perimeter. Keep an eye on those houses; we don't want any surprises."
The team split up, moving silently under the cover of darkness. Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett climbed to the crumbled remains of a barn roof, her sniper rifle gleaming under the faint moonlight.
"Targets in sight," she whispered through the comms. "Multiple walkers, and... something bigger near the square. A Juggernaut."
"Of course there's a Juggernaut," Kane growled.
The Juggernaut was a towering abomination, its rotting flesh fused with debris and its massive hands swinging an improvised weapon—a splintered beam of wood. It stood guard over the trapped survivors, its deep, guttural growls rallying the surrounding zombies.
"We go loud," Kane said. "Blaze, light up the north flank. Shield, push to the survivors. Huntress, cover him. Quick Shot, aim for the big one. Brain, monitor everything."
"Copy that," the team replied in unison.
Jenna unleashed a torrent of fire, her flamethrower illuminating the night as zombies shrieked and stumbled into the inferno. The horde turned toward her, drawn to the blazing heat, giving Derek "Shield" Coleman the opening he needed.
Shield charged forward, his massive riot shield battering zombies aside as he barreled toward the survivors. Behind him, Lila "Huntress" Navarro picked off any zombies that got too close, her pistols firing with surgical precision.
The Juggernaut roared and charged, swinging its massive beam toward Derek.
"Quick Shot, now!" Kane barked.
Riley fired, her shot piercing the Juggernaut's shoulder and staggering it.

"Blaze, give me some fire on the big one!" Kane ordered.
Jenna redirected her flamethrower, engulfing the Juggernaut in a blaze. The creature roared, flailing wildly, but it refused to fall.
"Brain, distraction?" Kane asked.
"Already on it," Ethan replied, deploying a drone that emitted a high-frequency sound. The disoriented zombies slowed their advance, giving Derek enough time to breach the building and rescue the survivors.
As the Juggernaut fell to its knees under the relentless assault, Kane delivered the final shotgun blast to its head.
The square fell silent, save for the crackling of flames.
"Another village saved," Kane said grimly. "But how many more are out there?"
