Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen-Chapter 732: I want to go see him, Daisy Ginger.
Robert Stephens’s rescue took nearly twelve hours, from daytime until the early hours of the morning, before he was wheeled out of the operating room.
His body was connected to various medical instruments, and the heavy oxygen mask nearly covered his entire face. Exhausted doctors and nurses hurriedly pushed him to the ICU, and Daisy Ginger didn’t even get a clear look at him.
As the attending doctor was supported out of the operating room, the Stephens family immediately gathered around to inquire about Robert Stephens’s condition.
The hospital at night was quiet. Daisy Ginger held the man’s cold, lifeless hand as she listened to the doctor answer the Stephens’ questions.
From his halting answers, Daisy gradually pieced together Robert’s current condition.
"When he was sent to the hospital from the courthouse, Robert Stephens’s heart had already stopped. It was revived by electric shocks, and the emergency revealed that all his organs were in varying degrees of failure, suspected to be sequelae from the car accident years ago."
"Although the rescue was timely, Robert has fallen into a coma, relying solely on a ventilator to breathe. Whether he will wake up remains unknown."
...
Daisy Ginger pulled the man to the hospital shop downstairs to buy some bread and milk.
Late at night, both were starving.
Daisy stood in front of Edward Stephens, poured out the medicine prescribed by the doctor into his palm, and spoke softly, "Take your medicine first."
The man didn’t speak; he only swallowed the pills while she watched.
"Does your stomach still hurt?"
"A little."
"Do you want to see the doctor again?"
The man shook his head, "It’s nothing serious. You eat something first, and I’ll talk to my mom before taking you home."
Daisy bit her lip, watching the man’s somber face under the light, and asked softly, "Are you going to stay here overnight?"
Edward reached out, gently wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her.
He stroked the back of her head.
"Be good."
Daisy knew he was upset, and seeing him in discomfort made her feel bad too.
But she was afraid he would have another stomach spasm alone at the hospital.
"Then remember to take your medicine." She buried her face in his chest, her voice soft and hoarse.
"Okay."
Daisy stood under the street lamp, watching the man in a black trench coat turn and walk toward Lady Stephens among the Stephens’, who promptly surrounded him. Their faces showed no concern for Robert Stephens’s uncertain fate, only eagerness for their own damaged interests.
Like a pack of greedy vultures.
No wonder, when it was discovered Edward Stephens was ill, they immediately removed him from being an heir and sent him to Banyan City to await death.
No wonder...
Edward preferred to stay in Banyan City with her rather than remain with his family.
Thankfully, the once aloof and distant young man had grown into someone reliable, no longer subject to his elders’ restrictions, no longer living under their scrutinizing stares.
Edward said something to Lady Stephens before coming out of the crowd. He took his car keys from his pocket, flipping them in his hand a few times, "Let’s go."
Daisy quickly took his arm, asking softly beside him, "Is it okay to leave them here?"
Seeing their behavior, she suspected someone might unplug Robert’s oxygen tube tonight.
"Ignore them," the man said flatly, "It’s just dogs biting dogs."
As Daisy gingerly stepped out of the car by Edward Stevens, they spotted a slender figure standing quietly under the tree’s shade on the sidewalk near the car.
Daisy didn’t know how long she had been standing there, but dew had already gathered on her hair. On such a cold night, she wasn’t even wearing a coat, just a thin shirt on her frail body.
She probably received the news and rushed over without time to put on clothes.
But the hospital was taken over by the police and the Stephens family, and someone from outside, like her, wasn’t allowed to enter.
Seeing Daisy and Edward come out, the woman immediately chased after them, hoarsely calling their names, "Daisy, Edward!"
Edward didn’t react, as if he hadn’t heard her voice. He simply opened the car door and got in.
Daisy hesitated, unable to get in before Charlotte Smith’s icy, water-like fingers grasped her.
So cold, cold as if devoid of any living warmth.
Daisy turned her head and looked at the woman, whose lips were as pale as her face, and despite having little affection for her, as a fellow woman, she couldn’t help but feel a little pity.
"I want to see him, Daisy, can’t you let me go in to see him?"
As she spoke, her lips trembled, her exquisite face mixed with fear and despair.
Daisy looked at her and said softly, "Charlotte, I don’t have the authority to let you in."
Charlotte seemed slightly stunned and instinctively looked at the man already sitting in the car, moving her lips but somewhat retreating.
Daisy, seeing her true pitiable state, turned her head and said to the man in the car, "Edward, she..."
Edward suddenly opened the passenger door, grabbed her arm, and dragged her into the car.
He glanced at her, his tone impatient and cold, "I’ll take you home and come back later. Don’t waste time here."
Just as Daisy settled in, she was subjected to a quick scolding, causing her to purse her lips slightly. She glanced at the forlorn, pale woman standing outside the car. Even if she didn’t understand her feelings for Robert Stephens, she indeed looked very pitiful now. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
As if about to die...
Even though that man had never treated her kindly...
Edward mercilessly started the car, leaving Charlotte Smith behind.
Daisy hugged her legs, resting her chin on her knees, closing her eyes to relax.
The man drove calmly, taking her all the way to the Stephens’ residence.
Late at night, the Stephens’ ancestral home was still brightly lit.
Daisy lightly stepped out of the car, lowering her head to glance at the man’s handsome profile. The man met her gaze, then leaned over and kissed her chin lightly like a dragonfly touching the water, "It’s late, get some rest."
Daisy was reluctant to let him watch over the hospital but understood it was his duty as Robert Stephens’s brother. Seeing that the man was about to start the engine and leave, she hastily called out, "Wait!"
He paused, and Daisy ran into the hall, returning with a brown cashmere blanket and a pile of snacks.
Edward thought she had something else in mind, but seeing her haul such a load made him chuckle, "Daisy, are we going on a picnic tonight?"
"I don’t care." Daisy piled the stuff in the passenger seat, "You’ll get lazy and won’t want to go out to buy food. Besides, your mom hasn’t eaten much either, share some with her."
