Chapter 616: Loneliness and Bravery

Daisy Ginger said nothing, simply following Coco’s gaze to look at the man behind her.

The man was already awake, unbeknownst to her, and was quietly leaning on the headboard watching them speak, his eyes devoid of emotion.

Daisy looked at him until he said to Coco, "Help me to rehabilitation."

Coco stood hesitantly at the door, appearing somewhat afraid of Daisy.

Until Edward Stephens said, "Ignore her."

Only then did she cautiously open the door, walked past Daisy, and helped Edward up.

For some reason, Daisy let out a soft sigh.

Opening the book gave her a surreal feeling—as if she had returned to five years ago, to when she first met Edward.

His rejection, resistance, and dislike were all genuine.

Am I just not capable of love at first sight for you?

She felt a faint sense of helplessness.

It wasn’t until Coco left with the cart that Daisy gradually came back to her senses.

She peeled a candy and popped it into her mouth, hearing the phone ring.

Glancing at the caller ID.

It was Lady Stephens calling.

She hesitated for a moment before picking up.

"Daisy, I’ve helped you replace Coco." Lady Stephens’ voice came over the phone as if expecting praise, "I’ve talked to the director, and a new therapist will be over soon. It’s a man, much older, so don’t worry!"

"..." Daisy replied indifferently, "Edward doesn’t want to change."

Lady Stephens was momentarily taken aback.

"They’ve already gone to the rehab room." Daisy picked up her bag and checked the time, "No need to change, this one is fine too."

As long as it helps Edward stand again and leaves no aftereffects, she could tolerate young girls.

Lady Stephens was still stunned when Daisy already hung up the call.

Throwing the candy wrapper into the trash, Daisy stood in the emptiness of the hospital room for a while before leaving.

At night.

Ryan Smith came to the hospital with snacks to visit him.

It was just around dinner time when Ryan entered, only to see Coco snatching the last rib off Edward’s plate.

The man didn’t seem to have much appetite, leaning on the chair with barely anything eaten from his bowl.

Ryan had heard about Coco almost being replaced, and seeing Edward’s gloomy expression, couldn’t help but say, "Why bother."

The man turned his head, giving him a cold glare, "Who told you to bring her over?"

"It’s for easing your longing." Ryan sat casually on his hospital bed, "Besides, if I didn’t, your brother would have brought her anyway, right?"

To stimulate Edward’s memory recovery, Robert Stephens had tried every method, and wouldn’t miss using Daisy as a living trigger.

Having finished the ribs, Coco said to Edward, "The ribs from this place taste really good, have them make more tomorrow, alright? I haven’t had enough yet!"

Edward displayed a disdainful expression, sarcastically saying, "Are you a pig?"

"Damn," Coco wiped her mouth and got angry, "I’ve been toiling for your legs, so what’s wrong with me eating a few ribs?"

Edward rolled his eyes and pushed his wheelchair to the bed, pulled the covers over himself, and turned away, ignoring them.

Coco was taken aback, looking towards Ryan, "What’s wrong with him?"

Ryan chuckled, shrugged, "Probably just in a bad mood." He winked at her, "How about I take you out for ribs tomorrow? I know a nearby restaurant with really good flavor."

Coco showed a shy expression, fidgeting, "No need, I know you’ve got a charming face with a beastly heart, conquering ten women at night, I’m very reserved."

Ryan: "....."

How did he not know about him conquering ten women at night?

Who started spreading this rumor about him?

Daisy returned home. Erin Ginger hadn’t finished class yet, and she didn’t go to the study to disturb him.

Feeling that she wasn’t particularly well, maybe even a bit tired, she went into the bedroom and lay on the bed dazed for a while.

Soon, the door was gently pushed open.

Little Erin’s head peeked in through the door.

Seeing Daisy lying on the bed, he climbed onto it, nudging her arm aside with his head and snuggling into her embrace.

Daisy opened her eyes, saw Erin, and smiled as she ruffled his hair, "Class is over?"

Little Erin nodded.

"Was studying tiring?"

Little Erin first shook his head, then nodded.

Daisy couldn’t help but laugh, tapping his nose, "So is it tiring or not?"

Little Erin thought for a moment and said, "It’s harder than I imagined."

Daisy pondered for a moment, more or less understanding what he meant—perhaps before, everything he learned came easily to him, and it was his first time encountering something that required time to learn, hence finding it difficult.

Daisy didn’t ask what he learned today, probably because it wouldn’t be something she could understand either. She held Erin, and the mother and son lay on the bed for a while, looking at the ceiling.

"Erin."

"Yes, Mommy?"

"What if Daddy never remembers us?"

"Then I’ll stay with Mommy and forget about Daddy."

Hearing this, Daisy couldn’t help but lower her head, giving the child a look.

Little Erin’s eyes, brighter than stars, were watching her. Daisy couldn’t help but feel a stir in her heart, kissed his forehead.

"Then it will be just the two of us living together."

Erin was silent for a moment, then turned over, lying on Daisy’s chest, looking down at her.

His little face showed a bit of worry, "Mommy, aren’t you happy today?"

Daisy smiled, rubbing his round head with her hand.

"No, just a bit tired. Are you tired, Erin?"

Little Erin shook his head, then hugged her neck, "But I can keep Mommy company and rest."

Ah, luckily she still had a good baby.

Daisy held him close, kissed his face, and the two of them rested on the bed.

Sometimes, she felt quite sorry for little Erin, he liked Edward so much, yet she brought him here at the most inappropriate time and place.

If they had reunited in Tsing City, perhaps Robert wouldn’t have been so ruthless, and Edward wouldn’t be suffering from amnesia now.

But fate can be so helpless; she isn’t a seer, incapable of predicting future events and preventing forthcoming disasters.

If Edward never recalls, if Edward falls in love with another woman, if in the future...

Does she have the energy to pursue him relentlessly like five years ago?

To prevent him from falling for someone else, to not allow him to be with another?

She felt that she no longer had that kind of reckless courage.

Much courage had been washed away by time; she was tired, no longer the girl she was five years ago, with endless energy to painstakingly pursue a man, to make him fall in love with her again.

She truly felt exhausted.
