Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard-Chapter 511 - 509: Competition Between the Headmasters
Seeing the Fire Dragon, Hagrid’s eyes became mesmerized. He even forgot there were two others beside him and just stared directly at the dragon, unconsciously taking two steps forward, as if wanting to get closer.
"Stay right there, Hagrid!" shouted a wizard near the fence. With short, messy red hair and strong, tanned muscles, it was clearly Charlie.
"This Horntail can breathe fire up to forty feet away, you better keep some distance!"
"Oh, it’s so beautiful," Hagrid said softly, his tone identical to when he soothed his three-headed dog Fluffy as a puppy.
A few minutes later, the Dragon Tamers finally used a Stunning Spell to calm the restless dragon down.
Hagrid took two more steps forward.
"How is it, Hagrid," Charlie panted as he approached, "It was really tough getting them here. Thankfully, there weren’t too many. Otherwise, even twenty of us wouldn’t be enough."
"Oh, yes..." Hagrid replied absentmindedly, his eyes still darting behind Charlie.
Charlie naturally understood what he was thinking. Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly noticed Maxime and Rockneil nearby.
"I didn’t expect you brought them too, Hagrid," Charlie said, frowning. "Technically, the champions shouldn’t know what they’re facing... She’ll definitely tell her students, won’t she?"
"Ah, I just thought they might like to gain some insight," Hagrid said, his gaze still fixed on the Hungarian Horntail.
Charlie shook his head.
Now that they were here and had seen what they came for, sending them away would be pointless.
But to ensure the fairness of the competition, Charlie felt he needed to do something... perhaps take a stroll outside the Forbidden Forest tomorrow, inadvertently allowing Kael to see him.
No need to say anything, just letting Kael see him... he should be able to guess the task involves Fire Dragons.
That way, he wouldn’t be breaking any rules.
With this thought, Charlie didn’t worry about whether they should have come, and instead stepped forward to greet them.
"Professor Rockneil, it’s great to see you here," Charlie extended his hand with a smile.
"Likewise, young Mr. Weasley," Professor Rockneil shook his hand.
"You know each other?" Hagrid was somewhat surprised; he had been about to introduce them to each other.
"Of course we do," Charlie explained. "A year ago at the Fire Dragon Reserve, Professor Rockneil was a great help to us."
A year ago... Fire Dragon Reserve...
On hearing these two keywords, Hagrid immediately realized something and asked, "Could it be the time of the dragon brawl?"
"That’s right," Rockneil sighed, "Dozens of different kinds of dragons in a massive brawl... it was truly a remarkable memory."
"Oh..." Hagrid let out a moan of regret. When looking at Rockneil again, his gaze turned a bit envious.
"You really should have invited me too, Charlie," Hagrid couldn’t help but complain.
"That’s not something I could decide, Hagrid," Charlie shrugged, "The decision was in the hands of the Romanian Ministry of Magic; we were just responsible for hosting."
"Alright," Hagrid sighed.
At this moment, he suddenly noticed a large crate in the shadows not far away.
"Is there a dragon in that too?" he couldn’t help asking. "Why seal the crate?"
"That..." Charlie glanced back, then at Maxime and Rockneil beside him, before shaking his head,
"Don’t ask, Hagrid, I can’t tell you, but I can assure you it’s not a dragon... after all, these big fellows wouldn’t stay put quietly."
"But what about the missing one? What are they going to do?" Hagrid looked around and asked the question Kael most wanted to know, "There are only two dragons here, but there are three champions. One dragon per person won’t be enough, right?"
"I have no idea," Charlie said. "Our task was to escort two Fire Dragons and this crate... um, special equipment to Hogwarts. As for the rest, we know nothing.
As for only having two dragons... I guess they plan to draw lots. Whoever’s lucky can skip the dragon and automatically win.
But if you ask me, whoever gets the Hungarian Horntail is in for trouble; it’s the most dangerous one among dragons."
Maxime subconsciously glanced at the black dragon, bowing her head, lost in thought.
"By the way, Hagrid," Charlie continued, "How’s Kael doing lately?"
"Doing well..." Hagrid said, "He’s preparing for the Triwizard Tournament and seems in good shape."
"That’s good," Charlie looked towards the enclosure holding the dragons, "While I guessed Kael might become a champion during the holidays, I was still surprised when the news came.
Mom was also very happy, but I didn’t dare tell her what the first task is, or she’d get all nervous again. It’s better like this.
"Never mind that... Hagrid, do you want to have a closer look? But be careful not to wake them."
"Oh, can I?" Hagrid’s eyes lit up.
Though he asked, his body already moved uncontrollably towards the unconscious Hungarian Horntail, examining it closely with a near-reverential gaze.
In the nearby woods, Kael and Conna were preparing to leave.
Hagrid would probably stay here for a long time, at least until sunrise; he wouldn’t be willing to return. They didn’t plan to stay the whole night here.
Kael and Conna turned around, ready to follow the path back to the castle.
But when they reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest, they suddenly saw a shadow hurriedly approaching.
Kael quickly stepped aside, barely avoiding a collision with the person.
"It’s Karkaroff," Conna whispered beside him, "I could see his goatee."
"Probably got some information," Kael said, "Though the Triwizard Tournament tasks are kept secret, they always leak... I think this part is about the match between the three headmasters."
The two of them made their way back to the front of the castle, and Kael glanced at the Marauder’s Map.
Luckily, Filch was still patrolling the fifth floor; he opened a door slightly, and he and Conna slipped into the castle, and made their way through the hall back to the Hufflepuff Common Room.
The common room was empty.
Conna removed the Invisibility Cloak, worriedly saying, "I can’t believe the first task is actually Fire Dragons, isn’t that a bit too dangerous?"
"It’s supposed to be one of the tasks involving dragons," Kael lifted the Disillusionment Charm, "As far as I know, the first task has three parts, representing the three schools, and dragons are likely the Hogwarts challenge."
"I’m sure those two headmasters have already informed their school’s champions of the contents."
Conna frowned, "Did Headmaster Dumbledore tell you anything... like you said earlier, the school headmasters always help their champions find out what the tasks are,"
"Well, not yet," Kael shook his head.
He hadn’t even seen Dumbledore lately, let alone get any news about the Triwizard Tournament from him.
When it comes to helping champions cheat, Dumbledore was clearly not as proactive as Maxime and Karkaroff.
