His Witch Queen-Chapter 142: Cyrus’s reality~
The name suddenly made the old man’s mood turn sour. He wasn’t only unhappy but it seemed displeasure consumed him pretty well.
At the same time, it was a shock for Cyrus. He didn’t expect that the current King was the son of the concubine. How was that possible? And when the Crown Prince was already present, how come the throne landed up in the hands of the concubine’s son?
There were dozens of doubts raised, but he still managed to calm himself down and waited for the old man to explain.
"So, Prince Derek and...Prince Almen were half-siblings." Cyrus asked, and the old man nodded his head. "They were. But they weren’t close either. Competition always struck between them like any other precious war that happened."
"Prince Wiliam made sure that Queen Julia’s powers were unchangeable by anyone else in the entire Kingdom. No one could compete with her. She was beautiful with brains and this made the other concubines, especially Shirley, very jealous." The old man was sticking out his point, and this made Alice’s eyes narrow.
She can expect how things must end. It was past as he told them. Rules were pretty much different in those times, she guessed.
However, there was absolute silence around them. The only voice that echoed in their ears was of the old man who took a deep breath to continue, "Prince Derek, undoubtedly, was supposed to be the real heir. He was best at everything. Whether it be swordsmanship, vampire magic, or something else. His heart and soul lied and beaten for the people of the kingdom and everyone assumed that he would make a wonderful king, who would make the kingdom flourish even more."
"At that time, Prince Almen was very envious of them. But to provide for themselves, they all decided that they will be sent to fight in the war. When they reached up to the age, Prince Derek led the army to fight against the enemies, and unexpectedly, they won with great heights." The old man’s description was raising Alice’s eyebrows.
She had all her ears on him but at the same time, her mind raised questions. ’Who is this old man to know all about the past...something which happened centuries ago?’ He was talking as if he was seeing everything with his own two eyes.
But she didn’t let her lips part until Cyrus brought his hand to hold her hand. She gazed at him, who gave her assurance by blinking his eyes.
Those eyes continued the seriousness. She could conclude he was hesitant, and all his mind focused on learning about the past.
Whereas, the old man’s head was down cast. He was moving the pages of the wrinkled old book with the utmost tenderness. "I remember the joy in Queen Julia’s eyes. Never ever did she question King Willian’s actions but, she was afraid, for her son. However, when he returned back, the first person Prince Derek met was his dear mother and she cried her heart out on his return."
"Every mother’s fear is losing her child." Alice finally told, and the old man agreed with her. "All the mothers love their child. Sometimes, destiny is never the way, to begin with."
The time didn’t stop by then. The old man was still looking at each content inside the book very solemnly. In fact, his grim eyes were proof that his happiness had faded over time.
"At the same time, there was an experiment going on by the priest of King Williams." the old man revealed, and this suddenly brought a heavy curve on Cyrus’ forehead. "There were experiments even at that time?"
"Herbs and mixing things has always been what the Kings look forward to. Who knows, if they discover something antique, which is helpful for them to fight in the battles or..anything else in their life?" The old man explained in detail.
He had raised his chin to gaze at Prince with his slightly sparkling eyes. "I believe, even King Almen must be doing something similar."
"He does. I guess he was also going to..." Cyrus’ words trailed in a slower voice when he cleared his throat. "..send Alice to the priest so that she can.."
"She is a human, so I can expect that. Almen bore hatred of the humans from the very start. It was sensing, which ran in his blood due to his mother, whose enmity for the humans never resulted in any good." the old man described.
Whereas, Alice could see that the old man didn’t show such resistance towards her. Unlike all the vampires, he appeared calm. Neither was there hunger flashing by, nor any malicious intent.
The old man then flipped to the next page and on there, it was a letter written with inks. "King Williams’s priest had then discovered something huge. It was all of the rare things they found out a herb, mixing all together, which would have made one stay young and never age despite being the vampire."
"Aren’t vampires supposed to say young and can’t die too?" Alice questioned, as she should recall the book she read, that there was now a way Vampires can’t die.
Their life span is comparatively much bigger than the ones of humans.
Probably, this was the reason she was more afraid to bring feelings into the lane because being with Cyrus for half a time will ruin her heart.
At this point, there was a tale of rudeness on the old man’s face which didn’t stay for longer, "You are correct. But vampires have a limited life span too. After some point, they will start to age, just like how I am right now. But the herb mixed, which was discovered, was the most precious discovery of that time."
"It was named as a poison by King William, which will change the intercourse of the era. As he wanted to destroy it too, he had still decided to keep it in the safe zone so that no one could get their hands on it, not even him." the old man was very direct.
While the listening about the discovery startled Cyrus, he had still maintained the silence. For a minute, he felt this wasn’t supposed to be related to kIng Almen either. How? What has King Almen done to be associated with this?
"What happened afterward?" Cyrus asked with vivid eagerness.
"Time progressed and Prince Derek had wedded the Princess of another state. It wasn’t a significant one at that moment. The princess was beautiful and smart, she possessed all the qualities which Prince Derek wished to have in a dream lady of his life. So was she liked by King William as well as Queen Julia."
"A perfect candidate for the Queen to be of the Kingdom.." the old man’s voice had started to tremble in the middle.
Cyrus doesn’t know why but he too could feel his heart-gripping away. Those names..they were all foreign. But the sudden connection was a heart miss which he rarely felt ever in his life.
’Probably because I was living the life of the well-built lie till now..’ a lie of the webs which was made by King Almen to fool him, throughout his childhood and adulthood.
Fortunately, he was smart enough to get hold of the same.
The old man once again lowered his face and eyes to avert his gaze back to the old book,, "Similarly, Prince Almen too married a Princess. Everything was set in their lives, but as we hear, the power of the hunger never dies down so easily.."
Suddenly, there was a drop in the temperature and the aura of the old man. He had converted himself into a nutshell, which was hard to get through.
Even Alice had to rub her shoulders altogether to find herself blinking her eyes twice and finally asking, "King Almen had a wife earlier? Was she Queen Elizabeth?"
"No. They came in recent times. And that’s what I’m telling you, King Almen changed the entire living course of the generations to satisfy his hunger and sacrificed uncounted lives." The old man’s words gave them amusement to them.
The heart was still at the bay but still, their ears were tempted to hear more. The old man took a deep breath to continue, "It was a few days before King William announced that he would be crowning Prince Derek as the King. Prince William wished to get down from the duties and spend time within the lap stage and with his wife."
"This was all foreseen and no one even expressed their dismay. Yet, Prince Almen wasn’t overjoyed. He wore the hilt himself. And the person who played a significant role in manipulating him was Concubine Shirley. Her anger towards Queen Julia resulted in tanning that man’s minds."
"At that point, Lady Lucy, wife of Prince Derek, was expecting their child. She was going to be crowned as the Queen when she was nine months pregnant." the old man commented and raised his eyes to see Cyrus.
The sudden change in the movement of eyes made Cyrus still not able to proceed with things but he knew what that glance meant pretty well.
"You mean to say that, I’m the child in...her womb?"
