Chapter 106: Unique

"W-what options are you talking about?" Alice asked with the same level of cautiousness, to which he broke his gaze and the stare from her direction to once again look out of the window. "I mean, you can go back to your Kingdom. Don’t think that you need to be involved in the battle of the vampires either. Yes, you are my wife but...you are human. They might u-"

"I will not go anywhere by leaving you in this situation. No matter what, I will stand and fight. So don’t care about my well-being rather your own and how you will face the consequences of betrayal because they won’t be any lightweights for you." Alice’s stern words brought a faint smirk lifted and curved on Cyrus’s lips.

He didn’t show, but his heart bloomed with flowers. His mind was somewhere relaxed and the rigid body had started to show its effects on the downside.

The thought of her leaving was not only devastating but also heartbreaking. He had no say since this marriage was only of conveyance but he let it go simply out of his mind.

Yet, for her sake, he did ask her to be sure and confident and her words rested as the assurance in his ears.

For the next few minutes, Cyrus didn’t mutter anything else and even Alice didn’t try to break the same silence. There were a lot of things to manage but there wasn’t a way to conquer all of them.

On top of that, since they all were already bound up by the force of their marriage, Alice knew that Cyrus had the mental torture to go through.

But when she was thinking that he needed some personal space, did he finally interrupt her. "Princess Alice, have you ever loved someone in your life till now?"

"H-Huh? What?" Alice’s mind went blank for the next few seconds. But on second thought, she regained her consciousness, "L-Love..like you mean liking someone?"

"I do mean that by my words," Cyrus muttered with a small nod in his eyes. He was damn serious in his words and it took Alice a couple of minutes to understand what he truly meant by that.

Yet it already twirled into her brain like any other gum attached and she found no hesitation to give the answer. "I’ve forgotten about them, Prince. Till this age of mine, nothing like this has affected me. For me, the love of my own family is enough to sustain me."

"But don’t you grave the love like others? I have heard Lady Ashley and Lady Aura talking about this so-called love....many times." and how many times they have pierced him to go and walk on his destination too.

Unfortunately, Cyrus knew that he isn’t meant for these things. His heart is filled with the pure darkness that surrounded his heart and mind too.

There was no trace of sadness that crept into his heart but he unfollowed thoughts that made him question some of the thoughts like how others actually described this feeling of so-called love to him.

Meanwhile, Alice’s eyes narrowed when she tilted her head a bit, "Love Is a feeling. I can only crave it when I meet someone who ignites the fire of this feeling. Until then, I’m all numb."

"And not like I can’t live my life without these few feelings. If it is written in my destiny to find someone special, I think I will do it at the right time and at the right place. Prince Cyrus... I’m also someone who is hollow from these feelings. The pain of losing loved ones is also known to me and I think it has made me stronger to invade and connect."

Alice’s explanation was easily brought to him. Not only that, in fact, he realized that his heart had actually been debated by her words.

Turning around, while keeping his face straight, he stared at his wife with round eyes and a small glint in his eyes. "You lost your mother...."

"So did you, when you were a child I believe," Alice answered back.

"Yet you still had your father beside you, unlike me, where everyone was interested in throwing me out of this Empire. You were pampered, but I was trained to be ruthless in the most dangerous way with anyone." For a second, Alice felt his voice causing goosebumps to appear on her skin like any other rat walking.

As Alice found it hard to invade his misted eyes. She had to keep her calm and hit her lower lip to not think twice about his intentions. "You aren’t that dangerous.."

"Because I haven’t shown you my devil side till yet, my bride."

Taking a deep breath, Alice adjusted her mood. ’I’m not here talking about whether he hurt me or not.. Have Not known about the answers I’m seeking..’ because, in her eyes, they are of chief concern and might affect Cyrus personally as well.

Lifting her gaze back to see Cyrus, she had effortlessly changed the subject to another. "I want to know a few things about Cyrus." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Go ahead and ask without any resistance." He was bluntly giving her an option and granting her permission, even though he understood that her questions might appear to be personal as well.

Even Alice didn’t show the questions unlike in the past. She kept her eyes straight before her lips parted away again to question, "Y-You had earlier told me that your mother died very early...but... do you remember anything after? I mean...anything?"

Her comment brought a faint frown to his forehead. He appeared cool and clear, but internally, he felt lights and the daggers reaching up to his brain."After my birth, and before my childhood, if you mean to say?"

In response, Alice vigorously nodded her head.

As Prince Cyrus got the answers too, he had finally mumbled, "Maybe Yes. I have had a few glimpses in the past. When I woke up, I felt that I had woken from a deep slumber. As if, someone had intentionally made me sleep."

His words and expressions were caught by Alice. She kept her exact facial expressions but didn’t let herself be moved either. Her changes would drastically raise unnecessary suspicions and that would be the last thing she is looking forward to currently.

"May I know if you knew who had made you sleep for so long.."

"Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about what, why, and how either." Cyrus had tried hard but he never gave much of his attention.

Neither does he remember much of his mother’s face, since that was a so-called distant memory and it always seemed to fade away with time.

But he had hardly gotten accustomed to his own self in the current time.

The people out there waiting for his downfall shouldn’t be able to witness his selfless sight ever. It was a weakness and his acting emotionally would only turn things upside and down against himself.

At the same time, it was princess Alice who had stayed quiet but her quietness didn’t stay for longer, "Cyrus...are you sure that you don’t remember anything? I have heard from a few people that... vampires are born years ago and they are locked somewhere and then woken up." Alice had simply thrown a clue, not directly telling him that she had gained this information from the ladies of the castle.

Initially, Cyrus had given her a shake, with his negative response. "I have heard this too but I don’t believe anything. Maybe something else must have happened to me."

"But you are unique too. Aren’t you?" Alice inquired, the width of certainty in her voice.

Her longing gaze at his face was proof that she doesn’t even need answers for this. She was damn serious and it was hardly known in which way and why.

As Alice’s mind rewinds, she somehow understood him too. He was already left to witness the pain and without any other strong support in his life.

Wasn’t this the worst possible to be combined? Alice thought.

Whereas, Cyrus had kept his eyes out from the window but he had heard her words well. A faint curve, but not exactly a smirk had pulled off. The glim in his eyes had intensified to the next level when mumbled, "I’m different from others, maybe. But aren’t you lying in the same position?

"What did you say?"

"Nothing." Cyrus died his words when another thought dwelled in his head. He had kept himself out with the hope that there won’t be any big deal onset for this at least now. "Alice, I know that you want to ask about something else. Just ask it, without beating around the bush,"

The comment came as a hassle and shock. ’How was he able to see through my intentions?’ She made them clear to depict and her facial expressions didn’t even hold a single glance of her curiosity.

But probably her twisted words were already understood by him. She is someone who usually talks mostly bluntly but if she is trying to turn around it means that there is something grave to discuss in her eyes.

For now, Alice had kept her head lower, but then she had raised it again, to find that Cyrus was also looking at her. "I want to know....what do you know about the massacre that happened centuries ago? Were You there at that time?"
