Chapter 474: Last meeting

After driving her car for nearly forty minutes, Gina finally arrived at the public cemetery where Giovana rested. When Gina arrived at the tomb, Lucas’s figure was nowhere to be seen.

Since there was a funeral, Gina decided not to get out of her car. Being around people who are grieving always makes Gina feel sad and sick because she remembers her mother’s passing seven years ago.

While staring sadly at the group of mourners who were starting to leave the burial area, a red Ferrari stopped right beside her car. Suddenly Gina turned her face away, staring at the owner of the car who was getting out of his car. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Hi."

Gina pursed her lips. "Hi."

"Sorry for making you wait, earlier I forgot to bring flowers so I turned my car back to buy flowers," Lucas said quietly, explaining his lateness to Gina while holding out a bouquet of roses towards Gina.

Gina, who had no reason to refuse then accepted the flower Lucas gave her and hugged it tightly. "Giovana will definitely like this flower."

"Yes, roses are her favorite flowers."

Hearing Lucas’ words made Gina’s chest feel tight, Gina knew that until now Lucas was still grieving. Lucas’ eyes said it all.

"Let’s go meet Giovana, she’ll be happy if we bring this flower," Gina said slowly changing the subject, constantly meeting Lucas’ eyes making her chest feel tight.

Lucas nodded his head, agreeing to Gina’s invitation to meet Giovana. With slightly shuffled steps, Lucas followed Gina from behind to Giovana’s still wet grave. The pile of flowers sown two days ago still looks fresh.

Kneeling, Gina placed the bouquet of flowers in her arms on top of Giovana’s grave. Her hand slowly rubbed the photo of Giovana which was slightly dirty from being hit by the ground.

"Hey beautiful, aunty is coming," said Gina softly. "Giovana must have met Giovana’s mother, right?... Say hello to her, okay?"

Gina stopped her words when she heard Lucas’s breathing which was very heavy, Gina realized that her words had just hurt Lucas’ heart and Gina’s suspicions were proven because suddenly Lucas dropped both of his feet on the ground right beside Giovana’s grave which was not covered with grass. Not long after that, Lucas cried loudly, hearing Lucas cry made Gina tear up too. Because she didn’t want to cry, Gina then chose to get up and go away from the tomb. Gina wants to give Lucas a little privacy, even though Lucas is a cold and cruel mafia but he is still a human with a conscience.

A single father who takes care of his child alone, it must not be easy for Lucas to accept Giovana’s death.

After nearly twenty minutes of crying, Lucas slowly started to calm down. Lucas began to control his emotions again, using his handkerchief Lucas wiped away the tears that were streaming down his gaunt face. Lucas slowly got up from where he was kneeling and walked over to Gina.

"Done?"

Lucas nodded slowly, answering Gina’s question.

"Okay then we..."

"Don’t go, Gina. Accompany me a little longer, I beg you." Lucas immediately cut off Gina’s words with his hoarse voice. "Just thirty minutes not twenty minutes please... if you’re afraid Massimo is angry I’m willing to ask his permission to—"

"No need, Luke." Gina said quickly, cutting off Lucas’ words. Gina had to lie a little, she didn’t want to break Massimo’s concentration today.

Lucas’ smile widened at Gina’s words, the tightness that was choking his chest slowly disappeared.

"We’ll just talk in that chair," said Gina again, pointing to a chair not far from the car park.

Lucas nodded his head agreeing with Gina’s words, Lucas slowly stepped towards a long chair which was a little dirty because of the fallen leaves. Using his hands, Lucas brushed the leaves off the chair so Gina could sit comfortably without feeling dirty.

"Thanks Luke, you didn’t have to do this actually."

Lucas smiled. "I didn’t do anything, I just wanted to make you comfortable after what you did for me."

"We’re friends, Luke. Don’t hesitate, I’m glad I could help you."

Lucas thinned his lips again, he slowly lifted his face up to look at the slightly overcast sky. "Giovana, she must not be sick by now, right?"

"Of course, Giovana is fine now, Luke," Gina answered quickly. "I’m sure Giovana would be happy to meet her mother up there."

Lucas’s eyes filled with tears again. "Giovana, I never imagined that I would have Giovana. At that time I was just venting my anger for all the stupid things I did by buying a girl who was sold by her mother as a prostitute, I had absolutely no hope that the girl would bear my baby. Until finally four months later I knew that the girl was pregnant, at first I wanted to get rid of Giovana as soon as I found out she had grown in that girl’s womb. But when I accidentally touched her stomach, I felt Giovana’s movement from inside her stomach all my hatred and anger disappeared and was replaced with feelings stranger that I’ve never felt before."

Lucas wiped his tears, remembering all the wonderful things he had been through five years ago.

"Since then." Lucas resumed his speech. "I decided to accept Giovana’s presence, day after day I lived with overflowing happiness. Slowly I began to accept the presence of Giovana and her mother, but fate said otherwise. When Giovana was born, that woman died. God only left Giovana for me and now that four years have passed, God has take Giovana and left me back alone with no one by my side."

"You’re not alone, Luke. There are still a lot of people who care about you, don’t talk like that," Gina said quietly, trying to cheer Lucas up. "God must have a wonderful plan for you."

Lucas looked up at Gina. "I’ve lost my love and now I’ve lost my daughter, tell me how can I continue this, Gina?"

"Luke.."

"I still can’t let go of my feelings for you, Gina." Lucas spoke his heart. "Here," Lucas said softly, touching his left chest. "Your name is still imprinted here."

Gina shook her head slowly. "I’m married, Luke, I can’t leave Massimo. He..."

"Do you love him?" Lucas asked suddenly, his eyes sparkling as he spoke.

"I love him, Luke," Gina answered honestly.

"No, you don’t love Massimo. You’re just forced to have this relationship with him," Lucas said quickly, as quickly as his hand grabbed Gina’s hand and gripped it tightly.

"Luke..."

"No Gina, I know you’re lying. I know you’re not being honest with me."

Gina furrowed her brows holding back the pain in her hand which was being held by Lucas, because Lucas’ pressure was getting stronger, Gina finally pulled her hand from Lucas’ grip. "I was mad at Massimo once, but after five years we’ve been apart I finally realized that Massimo has a special place in my heart. I really love my husband, Luke."

Lucas, who didn’t accept it, immediately shook his head. He tried to grab Gina’s hand again, but Gina, who had been able to read Lucas’ intentions, suddenly got up from the chair to avoid physical contact with Lucas again.

"Sorry Luke, looks like I have to go home. It’s getting late and Massimo will be back from work soon, I don’t want to confuse him if I’m not home," Gina said quickly. "I-I hope you wake up from this sadness soon, believe me Giovana would also want to see you happy. I hope you find your own happiness soon, Luke."

After saying that Gina immediately walked quickly to her car and immediately left the tomb area, Gina was forced to leave Lucas in that way because she didn’t want to make Lucas hope for her even more. Even though she is aware that Lucas is currently in a slump and needs someone to accompany him, Gina chooses to stay away from him. Gina didn’t want to give Lucas any hope, not when she was sure her relationship with Massimo was stronger than before.

When Gina’s car sped away from the cemetery, Diego, who had been following Gina, lowered his sunglasses and smiled at Lucas, who was still slumped in the chair that had previously been his and Gina’s seats. Diego’s decision to follow Gina turned out to be right and now Diego has a new weapon to launch his plan.

"Thank you Lucas Dom, you really have helped me a lot," Diego said hoarsely, his hands clenched tightly in his grip on his cellphone which contained dozens of photos and videos of Gina and Lucas together that he previously took secretly from the car. "Soon, Gina will be mine and all my plans will come true. Be the sole heir to the Sanders family."
