His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 81: Let’s Become Good Friends
Chapter 81 - Let’s Become Good Friends
Shuri's expression turned serious as she asked, "Why are you here, Dr. Sung?"
Sigmund offered a reassuring smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"I came to check on you, Dr. Lee. I found you unconscious and wanted to bring you to the hospital, but your fiancé intervened and took you away.
I wanted to make sure you were feeling alright and to see how your injury was healing. I also realized that I might have caused some misunderstanding with Mr. Kingston, so I'm here to apologize as well."
Shuri frowned slightly, trying to discern if Sigmund was being truthful.
Despite his words, she didn't feel he was genuine, but she couldn't openly accuse him.
"Thank you for your concern, Dr. Sung," she replied politely.
Karlene, still puzzled by the exchange, asked, "Who is he, Sis?"
Sigmund stepped forward, extending his hand towards Karlene.
"I'm Dr. Sigmund Sung. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said smoothly.
Karlene hesitated for a moment before shaking his hand.
"Karlene Lee," she introduced herself.
Sigmund's eyes seemed to glint with an unusual intensity as he spoke, focusing intently on Karlene.
He subtly channeled his power, allowing it to resonate within his voice.
The command slipped into his words, each syllable vibrating with an invisible force.
"Let's become good friends, Miss Lee."
As the words left his mouth, the air around him seemed to shimmer slightly, and Karlene's expression went vacant, her eyes glazing over.
The subtle but powerful suggestion seeped into her mind, bypassing her usual defenses.
For a brief moment, Karlene's expression remained blank as if under a spell.
Shuri watched them closely, sensing that something was off. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Karlene, are you alright?" she called out, concern lacing her voice.
Karlene blinked and snapped out of it, turning to Shuri.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, but deep down, she felt an inexplicable warmth towards Sigmund, as if they were already friends.
Just then, the door slid open, and a cold aura filled the room.
A chilling voice cut through the tension. "Didn't I warn you to stay away from Rin?"
Sigmund turned around to find Noran glaring at him with icy blue eyes, his presence imposing and formidable.
The air seemed to crackle with intensity as Noran's cold gaze bore into Sigmund.
Shuri was shocked to see Noran so cold and intense; she had never seen this side of him before.
Sigmund tried to maintain his composure. "Mr. Kingston, I'm here out of concern for Dr. Lee and to clear up any misunderstandings between us."
Noran's voice was low and menacing as he spoke. "Get lost."
Karlene suddenly stepped forward, her voice defensive. "Why are you being so rude to my friend?"
Both Noran and Shuri were taken aback by her words.
"Friend?" Shuri echoed, disbelief evident in her voice.
Since when had Sigmund become her friend?
Noran's eyes narrowed, his suspicion deepening.
He stepped closer to Sigmund, his presence radiating danger. "Leave. Now."
Sigmund raised his hands in mock surrender, his eyes glinting with a mix of fear and defiance.
"Very well, Mr. Kingston. I meant no harm."
He turned to leave, but not before casting a lingering glance at Shuri and Karlene. "I hope you get well soon, Dr. Lee."
As the door closed behind him, Karlene frowned at Noran and said, "Why did you chase Sigmund away?"
Noran raised his brows at Karlene, not understanding why she was defending Sigmund. "Are you close to him?"
Shuri chimed in, equally confused. "Lene, are you sure you're okay?"
Karlene had just met Sigmund, yet she was already addressing him by his first name.
Karlene rubbed her temple, and a flicker of confusion crossed her face. "I... I don't know why I feel Sigmund is like a good friend."
Both Noran and Shuri widened their eyes at Karlene's remark. They turned to look at each other, a silent understanding passing between them, their expressions a mix of surprise and concern.
Noran frowned and said, "Rin, that man is dangerous. Please stay away from him."
Shuri was about to respond when Karlene interjected, "What's so dangerous about Sigmund? I think you're more dangerous than him. Maybe I should ask my sister to stay away from you."
Her tone was sharp and defensive.
Shuri reached out to grab Karlene's hand. "Lene, calm down."
Noran observed Karlene closely.
She was behaving more hostilely than usual. He knew she never liked him, but he knew she wouldn't have interfered with him commenting about a stranger she had just met, especially if the man could potentially pose a threat to her sister.
It seemed he needed to dig deeper into Sigmund and have his men follow him.
After discharging Shuri from Sung Medical Hospital, Noran immediately transferred her to another hospital.
There, Shuri underwent a full medical examination, spending the entire afternoon at the facility before returning home that night.
Karlene was with them the whole time, meticulously taking care of Shuri's every need, not allowing Noran to help or touch her sister.
"Please don't tell Mom and Dad about my injury, alright? I don't want them to worry," Shuri said to Karlene when they reached home.
"I know, just focus on your recovery," Karlene replied.
Shuri sighed and sat down on the couch. She had only sustained a minor injury and couldn't understand why Karlene and Noran were so concerned about it.
Meanwhile, the fragrant aroma of food wafted from the kitchen, where Noran was busy preparing dinner.
Shuri glanced at Karlene, who was scrolling through her phone. "Lene, about Dr. Sung, why did you say he's your friend?"
Karlene looked up, surprised by the question.
She thought for a moment, realizing she didn't have a clear answer. "I don't know, I just feel like he's my friend, someone I can trust."
Shuri furrowed her brows. "But you only met him for the first time today. You don't know anything about him."
Karlene considered this, her confusion growing. "You're right. But sometimes, you meet people and just instantly like them. And then there are others you meet and can't stand from the moment you see them."
She paused, reflecting on her feelings. "Like, I can't stand your fiancé..."
"Lene, you promised me not to make things hard for Ran," Shuri quickly cut Karlene off before she started to criticize Noran.
"I know, I know... I won't argue with him tonight, alright?"
Deep down, Karlene knew she was being unreasonable.
Her jealousy towards Noran had brought out an ugly side of her.
But she couldn't help it because Shuri seemed to care more about Noran than her own well-being.
She wasn't used to sharing her sister's affection.
Despite being the younger one, Shuri had always been the one protecting and taking care of Karlene since they were very young.
Shuri was exceptionally mature and knowledgeable, more so than Karlene.
Now that they were older, Karlene felt the need to be the one protecting Shuri, but it seemed like Noran had taken over that role.
She struggled with the feeling of being replaced, which only fueled her animosity towards Noran.
During dinner, the atmosphere was thick with awkwardness.
Noran and Karlene mostly stayed quiet while Shuri tried to keep the conversation going, occasionally praising Noran's culinary skills.
"This is really delicious, Ran," she said, smiling as she took another bite.
Noran, always attentive, kept putting food on Shuri's plate, ensuring she had enough to eat.
Karlene, though quiet, couldn't deny that the food was indeed great.
She reluctantly admitted to herself that Noran was an excellent chef, and she found herself enjoying the meal more than she wanted to admit.
Feeling a twinge of guilt for her earlier behavior and wanting to show appreciation for his cooking, she decided to help clear the dishes after the meal.
"Let me help you," she offered, standing up and gathering the plates.
Noran didn't stop her and joined her in the kitchen.
They worked in silence, placing the bowls and plates into the dishwasher.
Suddenly, Noran spoke in a low voice, "You too. Be careful of that man. He isn't your friend."
Karlene shot him a glare.
"Who I make friends with has nothing to do with you," she snapped, frustration evident in her voice.
Noran's expression remained calm but stern. "I don't care who you make friends with, but if your friend brings harm to Rin, I won't tolerate it."
Karlene sneered. "How can my friend hurt my sister? You're just being possessive."
Noran's eyes narrowed. "Ask yourself why you'd consider someone you just met a friend."
With that, Noran turned and left the kitchen to check on Shuri, leaving Karlene fuming.
She stood there, gripping the edge of the counter, her mind racing.
Talking to Noran always seemed to annoy her to no end.
She really didn't know how to be nice to this man.
But as she reflected on what Noran had said, an uneasy feeling settled in her stomach.
"Why can't I stop considering Sigmund as a friend?" she muttered to herself.
It was indeed strange.
It felt as if something was controlling her, compelling her to like Sigmund and have positive feelings towards him.
It wasn't like her to warm up to someone so quickly, especially someone of the opposite sex.
As she was lost in thought, her phone vibrated, snapping her out of her reverie.
She glanced at the screen and saw a message from Roy: "My dear Karlene, I just arrived in Sol City! Let's meet up!"
