Chapter 63 - Morning Kiss

Karlene found herself being pushed onto the ground with Roy on top of her.

She couldn't comprehend what had happened as she looked up and saw blood spreading across Roy's shoulder.

"Ugh!" Roy let out a low, painful cry, his face contorted with agony.

"What the...?"

Karlene didn't have time to react to Roy's injury.

She quickly pushed Roy aside when she saw the assassin aiming his gun directly at them.

Time seemed to slow as her instincts kicked in.

Gripping the gun in her hand, she fired a shot with deadly precision.

The bullet hit the assassin squarely in the chest, and he collapsed to the ground with a groan, the gun falling from his lifeless hand.

Karlene quickly went back to check on Roy.

His face was pale, his eyes fluttering as he fought to stay conscious. "Mr. Roy, hold on! I-I'll call the ambulance!"

She searched her pockets and realized she had previously dropped her phone. "Shit!"

"Ka-Karlene..." Roy tried to call her name weakly.

"Mr. Roy, can you manage by yourself? I'll go look for help."

"No... don't go anywhere," Roy muttered, reaching out his hand to her. "I-I need..."

"Yes?" Karlene urged, her heart pounding with worry.

"...to hold your hand," Roy finished his sentence with a forced smile.

Karlene was speechless for a moment before she said, "Mr. Roy, now isn't the time to be joking."

"I think I'll feel less pain if you hold my hand..."

Karlene looked at him in disbelief.

Seeing he still had the strength to joke, she guessed his wound might not be life-threatening.

Suddenly, a few men appeared out of nowhere, calling out for Roy. "Mr. Roy! Are you alright?"

Karlene sighed in relief as help arrived.

The police quickly followed, and Roy was transported into an ambulance.

He was still calling her name when they loaded him.

"Karlene... You c-can't leave me here..."

His eyes appeared misty, and Karlene couldn't tell if it was due to his pain or if he was just using this to gain sympathy from her.

She rolled her eyes but climbed into the ambulance with him anyway.

"Don't leave me..." Roy repeated, his voice weak but insistent.

"What do you mean by 'don't leave me'? Can you please stop acting like I'm your lover?"

Karlene tried to hold back her frustration.

She didn't want to be harsh on him, especially since he was injured because of her.

However, on second thought, if it wasn't for him, she wouldn't even be in that dangerous situation.

Roy managed a weak, playful grin. "I'm not acting. I'm practicing. I'm sure we'll become closer soon."

Karlene smirked. "Do you think I'll repay you by being your girlfriend because you saved me?"

Roy widened his eyes, pretending to be surprised. "Doesn't it work this way? The princess always ends up marrying the hero."

Karlene rolled her eyes. "First, I'm not a princess. Second, you don't look like a hero."

She then turned to the paramedic. "Sir, can you give him a sedative or something? This guy won't keep his mouth shut."

The paramedic, a man in his mid-thirties with a calm demeanor, was carefully examining Roy's shoulder, which was still bleeding from the gunshot wound.

"We usually try to avoid giving sedatives unless absolutely necessary, ma'am."

Then he said to Roy, "Sir, I need you to stop talking and stay still. I'm going to stop the bleeding."

Roy winced as the paramedic cleaned the wound, but he couldn't resist one last quip. "Karlene, if I survive this, you owe me dinner at least."

Karlene sighed, but a small smile played on her lips. "A shot like this can't kill you. You'll definitely survive this."

"So, is that a yes?" Roy asked hopefully as the paramedic skillfully applied pressure to stop the bleeding, then disinfected the area before wrapping it with a sterile bandage.

The paramedic looked at Karlene with a knowing smile. "You know, it might help if you agree to his request. He could use some motivation to stay calm and rest well."

Karlene shot the paramedic a suspicious glance. "Did he bribe you or something? Why are you siding with him?"

The paramedic chuckled. "No bribery involved. Just trying to make my patient more cooperative. A little hope goes a long way."

Karlene was speechless for a moment as she glanced at Roy who was looking back at her with hopeful eyes.

She then sighed, admitting defeat. "Alright, fine. After you get better, we can have that dinner."

Roy's face lit up with delight. "Deal! Now I'll do my very best to recover soon."

Karlene couldn't help but marvel at Roy's persistence in courting her, even under such dire circumstances.

It was both frustrating and amusing to see how he managed to keep his spirits up and continue his playful banter despite his injury.

A quiet smile tugged at her lips as she realized just how tenacious and interesting Roy truly was.

...

Shuri slowly opened her eyes, blinking away the remnants of sleep.

The first thing she saw was Noran's handsome face, illuminated by the soft morning light.

He was staring at her as if admiring a precious treasure.

"Good morning, Rin," he greeted her warmly, his voice filled with affection. "Did you sleep well?"

Shuri's heart skipped a beat as Noran leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead.

The tender gesture sent a wave of warmth through her, and she couldn't help but smile as she nodded. "Yes, I did. What about you?"

She hadn't slept so well in a long time.

She used to be plagued by relentless nightmares, finding rest only with the help of the fragrant pouch Jin had given her.

But somehow, she slept peacefully last night—without a single dream to haunt her.

Was it because of Noran's presence?

His presence was comforting and soothing, like a protective cocoon enveloping her.

"I had a good rest," Noran replied, though he didn't mention that he had spent the entire night watching her sleep.

For as long as he could remember, he'd dreamed of Shuri—only to wake up and find the space beside him empty, a cruel reminder that she was never really there.

It hurt him deeply, making him hate reality.

So now, he was afraid to fall asleep, fearing that if he opened his eyes, she would be gone again, and holding her like this was just a fleeting dream.

"But your complexion doesn't look too good," Shuri said softly, her voice tinged with concern as she placed her hand on his cheek, observing him closely before thinking, "You still look ridiculously good-looking though."

Noran leaned into her touch, feeling the warmth and sincerity in her gesture.

He placed his hand gently over hers, his gaze locking onto hers with a heat that made her heart skip a beat. "Maybe it's because you forgot to give me my morning kiss."

Shuri couldn't help but chuckle.

Memories of their life as husband and wife came rushing back—how he'd often been like this: affectionate, and at times, a little needy. She'd always liked the way he craved her attention, how he leaned on her for comfort and love.

"Well, I guess I can fix that," she said softly, leaning in to kiss his forehead gently.

Noran smiled, but there was a playful glint in his eyes. "Not like this."

Before Shuri could react, he captured her lips in a deep, passionate kiss.

Her breath caught in her throat as his lips moved against hers with a familiar tenderness, but also a hunger that made her heart race.

The kiss was electric, igniting a fire within her that she hadn't felt in a long time.

Noran shifted, positioning himself on top of her, his body pressing against hers.

The weight of him, the heat, and the sheer presence of him felt overwhelmingly right.

Then, he gradually put his lips to the nape of her neck.

"Mmh..." A moan erupted from Shuri's lips at the unexpected contact.

"...You said morning kiss..."

As Noran's kisses wandered to places other than her lips, Shuri lifted her eyelids to look at him and realized his eyes were burning with passion.

"This is my kind of morning kiss." His voice was subdued, perhaps because of a desire he couldn't express.

He gently kissed her back on her parted lips and took the opportunity to insert his tongue into her mouth and began to stir inside.

"Mmh...!"

His kiss was more tenacious this time. As if to compensate for all the time he had missed kissing her, there was no place in her mouth that he did not reach.

His tongue swept through her teeth one by one, then mercilessly scraped the roof of her mouth, and finally began to grab and intertwine with her tongue as it went in.

"Ha..."

After some time, Noran's lips moved away, and a glistening thread of shared saliva stretched between them, a testament to their passionate exchange.

Long gasps escaped their mouths as they breathed each other in.

They locked eyes, their gazes smoldering with unspoken desire, neither willing to break the intense eye contact.

"Haa... Rin..." Noran breathed out her name, his eyes never leaving hers while his hand traveled up from her legs, slipping beneath her skirt.

His touch sent shivers down her spine.

Leaning in closer, he whispered seductively, "How about we do some morning exercise?"
