His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 60: You Can’t Die
Chapter 60 - You Can’t Die
"Beatrice!" Noran cut her off, his tone sending a clear warning not to say more.
Beatrice immediately understood and fell silent.
Shuri was startled.
Did she hear that right? Had Noran been looking for her for eight years?
She wanted to question them, but Noran's reaction made it clear this wasn't something he wanted to discuss at the moment.
"Beatrice, bring Snowball back first," Noran instructed.
Beatrice obeyed and took Snowball from Shuri.
Snowball whined, unwilling to leave Shuri's side.
Shuri petted him gently, her voice softening. "I'll see you later, Snowball. Be a good boy, alright?"
Beatrice smiled at Shuri. "You can come over anytime. I'll be staying at my brother's place for another week until my own house is ready. See you later, Miss Lee."
Shuri nodded with a smile. "See you later, Miss Kingston."
After Beatrice left, Shuri tried to walk past Noran, but he gently held her by her wrist.
"Rin, we still need to talk."
Now that Shuri realized it was all a misunderstanding, she appeared calmer and didn't pull away. "Happy has been out for too long. She needs her rest. We'll talk tomorrow."
Noran's eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope. "Are you saying you won't mind me going over to your mother's place for dinner tomorrow?"
Shuri simply nodded quietly, unable to come up with any more excuses to keep him away.
Besides, there was something she wanted to ask him.
But it wasn't the right moment now.
Noran's expression brightened. "I'll pick you up tomorrow."
Shuri glanced at him and noticed his warm smile.
Her heart felt a strange sense of relief.
Seeing him like this, compared to the hurt she had seen in his eyes earlier, made her feel at ease.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
With that, she went into her apartment.
As the door closed behind her, she leaned against it for a moment, her mind racing with thoughts.
She had so many questions. After spending so long avoiding him, she realized she knew nothing about the life Noran was living now.
Shuri thought she didn't need to know because she wasn't planning on getting back with him.
However, after hearing what Beatrice had said, she couldn't avoid the curiosity gnawing at her.
Had Noran really been searching for her for eight years? Why hadn't he mentioned it before?
Determined to find answers, Shuri sat down at her computer and began searching for information about Noran.
As she watched several of his past performances online, one piece stood out— "To Rin."
It was a hauntingly beautiful melody, one she knew all too well, and she realized he had performed it countless times over the years.
As she delved deeper, she stumbled upon an old interview uploaded seven years ago.
It was a rare appearance, as Noran seldom agreed to interviews, but this one had been broadcast internationally.
In the video, the interviewer, a well-known journalist, leaned forward and asked, "Mr. Kingston, your composition 'To Rin' has captivated audiences worldwide. Could you tell us what inspired you to write this piece?"
Noran, looking calm and composed, replied, "I wrote 'To Rin' for someone very special to me."
The interviewer raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Someone special? Could you elaborate on who this person is?"
Noran hesitated for a moment, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "She's someone I've been searching for a long time."
The interviewer pressed on, "Is this person a woman?"
Noran nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips. "She's the only one for me."
Following the interview, countless articles speculated about Noran's mysterious lover.
Headlines screamed about his secret love, the woman who inspired his most heartfelt composition.
"It can't be..." she murmured in disbelief. "You have been looking for me for so many years."
Tears welled up in her eyes, and a mixture of emotions surged within her—regret, longing, and an overwhelming sense of love.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she whispered to the screen, feeling a pang of regret for not knowing sooner.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Shuri closed her laptop and leaned back in her chair, her mind racing.
She had been so determined to keep her distance, to protect him from the dangers she feared, but now she realized how much he had been suffering without her.
At that moment, she didn't know what to do.
Instead of living a better life, Noran had been constantly looking for her. freewebnøvel.coɱ
He hadn't simply moved on and then suddenly remembered her—he'd carried her in his heart all along, building a life shaped by the hope of seeing her again.
She couldn't find it in herself to avoid him now.
But could they avoid the same miserable fate if they got back together?
Although she wanted to get back with him, she wasn't confident she could protect him in this life.
Shuri lay on her bed, feeling a headache from the dilemma.
She wasn't sure if it was because she hadn't slept all night or if her thoughts were too overwhelming, but the more she agonized about it, the more tired she felt.
She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Then, she found herself trapped in the same nightmare that haunted her regularly.
She was back at the moment they parted, with flames roaring around them as she hugged the dying Noran in her arms.
She trembled, her voice hoarse. "Cough, cough... No, you can't die, Ran... Please, save him..."
The fire crackled louder, and she tightened her grip on him, feeling his life slip away.
His handsome face appeared lifeless, his body covered in blood.
The sight filled her with a deep, paralyzing fear.
She could hardly breathe, the image of his broken form burning itself into her mind.
"Ran!" Shuri jolted awake, her heart pounding, covered in sweat.
Her breaths came in ragged gasps as she struggled to pull herself out of the nightmare's grip.
She sat up, her body trembling, realizing it was just another one of those awful dreams.
Her constant nightmares were a cruel reminder of her past, a symptom of the PTSD she had been silently battling.
She tried to calm herself down, taking deep breaths to steady her racing heart.
But before she could fully regain her composure, a loud fire alarm pierced the silence.
Her heart skipped a beat as she listened, trying to pinpoint its source.
Panic surged through her when she realized it was coming from next door—Noran's apartment.
Without thinking, she leaped out of bed and rushed to the door.
Still shaken from her nightmare, her mind wasn't clear, and she acted on pure instinct.
She ran out of her apartment, her bare feet slapping against the cold floor as she banged on Noran's door with all her might.
"Ran! Ran! Are you in there?!" she screamed, her voice filled with terror and desperation.
She pounded on the door, her fists hurting with the force of her blows. "Ran, please! Open the door!"
Her emotions were a whirlwind—fear, panic, desperation—all swirling around her as she continued to bang on the door.
Her knuckles were turning red, and tears streamed down her face as she called out his name again and again.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Noran stood there, his face a mixture of shock and concern.
Before he could say anything, Shuri threw herself into his arms, her body shaking with sobs.
"Ran, you can't die! You can't die!" she cried, clutching onto him as if letting go would mean losing him forever.
Noran, still trying to process what was happening, instinctively wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
"Rin, what's wrong? I'm here, I'm okay," he whispered, his voice soothing, trying to calm her down.
He felt her trembling against him, her fear palpable.
A part of him was delighted that she was finally addressing him like before, but he felt deeply worried seeing her crying like that.
Having spent more than a decade with her, no matter the circumstances they faced, Shuri hardly ever panicked.
She rarely shed tears or exhibited fear, especially not like this.
He didn't know what to do besides gently stroking her hair, his heart aching at the sight of her so distressed.
"It's okay, Rin. It's okay. I'm here," he whispered, his voice tender and reassuring.
Suddenly, Beatrice, who had gone to reset the alarm system, emerged from the corridor, her eyes widening in shock at the sight of the couple hugging.
She was practicing her cooking and accidentally burnt something, triggering the alarm.
Knowing she shouldn't be disturbing them, she quickly took Snowball and retreated into her room.
When everything became quiet, Shuri could concentrate better.
She listened to Noran's heartbeat, strong and fast, beneath her ear.
She felt an unexpected comfort in his embrace, her body gradually relaxing as she realized he was alive.
Her sobs subsided as she clung to him, the fear that had gripped her heart beginning to loosen its hold, replaced by the warmth of Noran's embrace.
Yes, he was alive now.
Her nightmare was from their past life.
It wouldn't happen in this life as long as she stayed away from him.
"I... I'm sorry... It shouldn't be like this..." she whispered, trying to push him away, but he held her firmly, his eyes softening as he looked into hers.
"Then how should it be, Rin? Would it have been better if I had died back then?"
