Chapter 23 - Captured and Resilient

Shuri woke up, feeling a dull ache pulsing in her head.

Confused, she blinked in the darkness surrounding her.

"Where am I?" she murmured before slowly becoming aware of her situation.

After remembering the impact that had knocked her out, Shuri was startled to find herself tied to a chair, unable to move her limbs.

What was going on?

Unable to see and move, Shuri began to panic as she struggled against the restraints.

However, no matter how much she tried, she couldn't free herself.

Then, the door creaked open, flooding the room with blinking light.

Shuri squinted her eyes, trying to discern the figure emerging from the brightness.

"Miss Lee, looks like you're finally awake," the man in the suit said as he entered the room accompanied by two other tall, muscular men.

Shuri gazed at the three strangers before her and noticed the dark clouds swirling around them like sinister tendrils.

Especially the man in the middle, dressed sharply in a suit, emitted an aura of deep blackness, a menacing shadow surrounding him, oozing malice and deceit.

He was clearly the one in charge, the one who had captured her here.

Realizing she had to find out more about this sinister man, Shuri used her divine ability to peer into him.

She realized his name was Lester Rees, a lawyer working under Damon Kingston, Noran's father.

Shockingly, she learned that Lester was also Damon's illegitimate child, manipulated by his father to carry out many of his shady dealings.

"Oh? Don't you want to know who we are?" Lester asked, surprised by Shuri's calm reaction.

Damon had assigned him to kidnap people in the past and coerce them into signing unfair agreements.

Previous captives often panicked and asked similar questions.

However, Despite the gravity of her situation, Shuri remained remarkably calm.

He couldn't help but wonder if the blow to her head had affected her cognitive abilities.

He approached her and extended his hand toward her face.

Shuri couldn't evade him as he grasped her chin and examined her closely.

"Very pretty," he muttered with a smirk. "I can see why my brother went crazy for you."

"Don't touch me."

Shuri tried to move her face to shake him off, but he only held her tighter.

"Don't struggle. You don't want me to hurt your pretty face, do you?"

Lester pulled her closer and lowered his face to meet hers.

Shuri didn't back off this time and locked eyes with Lester.

Strangely, the longer she stared at him, the more uneasy he felt, causing him to loosen his grip against her chin.

"I'm not signing the divorce letter," she stated bluntly.

Lester was startled by her remark. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

How did she know they had kidnapped her to pressure her into signing the divorce papers?

He frowned. "I don't care how you learn about this, but if you know what's good for you, you'd better sign those papers."

Then, he gestured for one of the muscular men to hand him the documents.

Shuri just looked at the papers in his hands, appearing uninterested. "Why should I? You won't let me go even if I were to sign this."

Lester was caught speechless.

This woman might look simple and unassuming, but she was much more difficult than he thought.

She seemed to grasp their intentions and showed no signs of fear, unlike most captives, despite her vulnerable position.

"You're right. Even if you were to sign this, I can't let you go," Lester admitted.

"You see, you've messed with the wrong people and now they want you gone. I'm only following orders. However..."

Lester leaned closer until he was only a few inches away from her face and continued saying, "I won't kill you if you sign this. Instead, I'll pamper you well."

Shuri glared back at him as she replied firmly, "I won't sign it."

"You bitch!" Lester cursed and grabbed the back of her hair, forcefully tilting her head back as he glared down at her.

"Do you want to die?!"

Despite feeling the pain at the back of her skull from his grip, Shuri showed no expression of pain.

She just stared stubbornly back at Lester as if telling him she didn't fear him.

It would be a lie to say she didn't fear death.

Why did she travel to Fushin if she didn't want to live?

However, more than the fear of death, she was afraid they would use her as a hostage to get Noran to submit to their demands.

She'd rather die than be a burden to him.

"Or do you believe my brother would come and save you?" Lester scoffed.

He had mistakenly thought Shuri was stubborn because she believed someone would rescue her.

He patted her left cheek with his other hand.

"No one will come to save you. My brother wouldn't be able to find you here. Even if he were to report this to the police, they wouldn't bother to search for a foreigner who had gone missing.

Don't you know people often go missing here in Fushin? This is why we decided to capture you when you're here..."

It was well-known that people had disappeared after venturing into the Guardian Forest.

Authorities warned the public against going too deep into the forest, but cases of missing persons persisted over the years.

"So, just be a good girl, sign those papers, and be my woman. I'll treat you better than my brother," Lester said with a sly smile as he ran his hand down her cheek.

Feeling disgusted by his touch, Shuri shivered involuntarily.

She clenched her jaw, doing her best to maintain a straight face.

She couldn't afford to show weakness, understanding that people like Lester would exploit any vulnerability she displayed.

She smiled slightly, catching Lester off-guard. "You're hurting me now, so why should I believe you?"

In fact, she knew he was telling the truth.

Lester did want her as his woman, but not because he liked her.

It was all because she was Noran's wife.

Lester, who had always been jealous of his half-brother, wanted everything his Noran had.

As Shuri had expected, her question caused Lester to loosen his hold on her hair.

A wide smile spread across his lips as he observed her, noting that Shuri looked even more beautiful when she smiled.

"Ah, my bad. I should have treated you with more care," Lester stated as he patted Shuri on the head.

"You see, I usually would have tortured my captives into compliance, but it'd be a shame to hurt someone as beautiful as you."

"Sicko..." Shuri thought as Lester ran his fingers through her hair.

He seemed to enjoy touching her as he gently held her wavy, long locks and brought them to his nose.

"Hmm, so nice..."

Shuri got goosebumps all over her body upon realizing that Lester had a lustful desire for her.

After he made her sign the divorce papers, he intended to tell his father that he had killed Shuri while secretly keeping her hidden from the world.

Peering into him, it dawned on her that he had the intention to lock her up and make her his sex slave.

It gave him immense pleasure to be able to dominate the woman his brother held dearly.

Learning about his disgusting nature made Shuri feel sick to her stomach, causing her to squirm against her restraints.

"Being tied up like this must make you uncomfortable," Lester commented as he gestured for his men to untie Shuri.

Since he didn't think she could escape from them, he thought there was no need to restrain her.

Besides, he needed to release her eventually to sign the divorce papers.

Shuri remained seated like an obedient doll even after they untied her, and Lester handed her the papers and a pen.

"You'll need to sign this eventually, so why don't you sign it now when I'm being nice? You don't want me to do it the hard way, right?"

Shuri looked at the pen and hesitated for a moment.

Then, she stood up and with a trembling hand, she reached out and took the pen from Lester.

Lester wore a smug expression as he observed Shuri looking down at the papers and putting the pen down, ready to sign.

However, just as the pen touched the black space of the paper, Shuri murmured his name, "Mr. Rees..."

Lester widened his eyes in surprise.

Did he tell her his name? How did she...

She looked up at him with a slight smile and continued, "You can never beat Ran."

Then, she used all my strength to strike between his legs, a move that Karlene had taught her to work specifically well on men.

"Ah!"

A piercing scream echoed through the air.

The two men beside them were shocked but they managed to hold onto Shuri before she could stab Lester with the pen.

"You bitch! You dare...!"

Lester growled as he glared at Shuri while one of the muscular men tried to aid him up.

The other man had pinned Shuri on the floor as she grinned at Lester with contempt.

Growing up as an illegitimate child, Lester recognized this expression all too well.

Shuri was looking down at him, something he hated the most in the world.

"I'm gotta make you cry, you bitch!" Lester yelled angrily as he struggled to get back up.

Despite the pain, he staggered over to Shuri and pressed her roughly against the floor.

"You dare look down on me!" he exclaimed in rage, losing his insanity as he slapped her across the face.

The resounding slap was so hard that it caused Shuri to lose most of her strength.

Although he couldn't force himself into her due to the injury Shuri had caused earlier, it didn't stop him from tormenting her.

"You asked for this bitch!"

He started tearing her clothes, and Shuri pushed his chest out of desperation when he pressed his whole body against hers.

"No—!"

However, the difference in strength between the two was vast.

"Haha! Cry, bitch! Cry! Let me hear you cry!" Lester exclaimed like a psycho as he enjoyed the scene of Shuri struggling in tears.

Just as he was about to humiliate her further, they heard agonizing screams coming from outside.

A short moment later, the door flung open.

Everyone turned their attention to the intruder at the door, and Shuri widened her teary eyes in surprise as she recognized who it was.

"Ran..."
