His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 163: Let Me Take You Away, Okay?
Another new railway project, another dock renovation—Ethan Sinclair had been so busy lately, he didn’t even have time to think about what his real feelings for Kiana Sutton were.
When Kiana walked into the CEO’s office with a cup of coffee, she immediately noticed the bluish shadows under Ethan’s eyes.
After setting the coffee down on the desk, she didn’t rush out; instead, she softly walked behind his chair and gently began massaging Ethan’s shoulders.
Kiana’s pressure was just right—not too strong, not too light. Ethan squinted his eyes comfortably.
"I didn’t expect you’d be good at this."
Noticing Kiana hadn’t spoken for a while, Ethan suddenly remembered she couldn’t talk.
Come to think of it, Hannah Lowell mentioned that Kiana became mute after her cat died and she ran a high fever.
If she wasn’t born mute, then why not get treatment?
Or maybe she tried, but it didn’t work?
He’d never heard her speak, didn’t even know what her voice sounded like.
"That’s enough."
When Ethan spoke, Kiana walked around to the front of the desk. She raised a hand and gently gestured: "I taught myself massage techniques before, to help my dad relax his shoulders."
The mention of Gordon Sutton made Ethan’s expression darken.
Kiana realized she’d stepped on a landmine and quickly stopped gesturing.
"Your throat—have you had it treated?"
Kiana hadn’t expected Ethan to suddenly care about her throat. It made her a little happy, but thinking about her voice, she just nodded gently.
"What did the doctor say?"
Kiana felt reluctant to answer this, but since Ethan asked, she gestured lightly: "There’s nothing wrong with my throat."
"Then why can’t you talk?"
Kiana pressed her lips together, lowered her head, and didn’t answer with gestures.
Ethan frowned. If it wasn’t a physical issue, then it had to be psychological.
What was going on with Kiana mentally? Was it connected to her dead cat?
"How did your cat die?"
Hearing this, Kiana jerked her head up and stared at Ethan—how did he know?
Just remembering how the little calico she’d adopted died, her mind flooded with a sea of red blood. Her face went pale instantly, and she bolted from the office.
Ethan: "..."
That big of a reaction—what exactly happened?
Most crucially, Hannah Lowell didn’t know, and even when Connor Grant looked into Kiana’s past, he hadn’t found much.
What was she hiding?
...
Because of the cat, Kiana’s mood was off the whole afternoon.
Her phone suddenly rang—a WeChat from Quinn Sinclair: "Sis, what’re you up to?"
"Working, why?"
"Mmm... Haven’t seen you in ages. How about we get dinner tonight?"
Kiana realized she was free that night and agreed: "Sure, where should we go?"
"I’ll pick the place. I’ll send you the location later."
"Okay, sounds good."
Quinn was quick to act—within minutes, Kiana got sent the address for a restaurant.
It was a seafood place known for its privacy. As soon as she got off work, Kiana took the subway to meet them.
She hadn’t expected Miles Goodman—who she hadn’t seen in ages—would also be there.
Miles looked like he’d lost a lot of weight, his complexion and spirit were both poor.
And it wasn’t just Miles; Quinn seemed under the weather too.
Weren’t they just here to eat—what was up with the two of them?
Did they have a fight?
Kiana was just about to gesture when Quinn suddenly pulled her over to a chair. "Come on, let’s eat first. We’ll talk after."
They’d ordered ahead—everything was what Kiana liked.
Kiana was starving and didn’t stand on ceremony; picking up her chopsticks, she began to eat.
Miles kept peeling shrimp and crab for Kiana, head down and silent—who knew what he was thinking.
Quinn just kept glaring at Miles, her guilt nearly drowning her.
Seeing Quinn holding her chopsticks without taking any food, Kiana gently nudged her and gestured: "Quinn, why aren’t you eating?"
"Oh... I’m eating... Isn’t Miles peeling shrimp? I’ll wait for him to finish."
On a normal day, Miles would’ve bickered with Quinn already, but today he needed her help, so he obediently kept peeling.
After finishing peeling the shrimp and crab, Miles gave the majority to Kiana, and the rest to Quinn.
This obvious favoritism nearly made Quinn curse him out—flirting with her sister-in-law right in front of her. Was he not afraid she’d kill him?
But then she remembered what she was up to today, and couldn’t help but feel she might get herself killed by Ethan Sinclair instead.
Kiana noticed her portion was bigger than Quinn’s. She smiled awkwardly, put down her chopsticks, and gestured: "Thank you, but you don’t have to peel for me—I can do it myself. Eat yours."
Then she gave Quinn some food: "Quinn, you should eat more too."
Quinn was weighed down by thoughts—she had no appetite at all.
But not wanting to ruin Kiana’s meal, she picked up her chopsticks and started eating.
Throughout the meal, Miles and Quinn spoke little. Kiana—unable to speak aloud—couldn’t liven up the atmosphere, and could only glance between the two.
Once they’d eaten most of the food, Kiana tugged on Quinn’s sleeve, gesturing: "Quinn, did you and Miles have a fight?"
"No."
Quinn was seriously torn, but looking into Miles’s pleading eyes, she sighed, suddenly got up. "Alright, you two talk. I’ll be outside waiting."
Kiana watched Quinn walk out, totally confused—what was going on?
And the atmosphere turned even more awkward.
Kiana was still uneasy about last time, when Ethan misunderstood her for eating with Miles.
But she really was innocent with Miles—cutting ties with her savior just because of a misunderstanding was impossible.
Besides, this dinner was arranged by Quinn.
Seeing Miles looking pale, staring at her as if he had a thousand things he wanted to say, Kiana got even more nervous.
Trying to break the tension, she awkwardly gestured: "It’s been a while—how have you been lately?"
As soon as she finished gesturing, Miles suddenly grabbed her hand. "Kiana, I like you. I like you so much. Ethan Sinclair doesn’t love you. You’ll never be happy with him. Come away with me, okay?"
If she hadn’t seen Miles nearly in tears, Kiana might have thought she was hallucinating.
Kiana jerked her hand away. Miles had confessed before, and she’d already refused him—so why now...
"I know you love Ethan Sinclair, but he’s not the right guy for you. Please give me a chance. If you say yes, I’ll take you away somewhere we’re strangers, start over—love you and protect you for life. I’ll never let you be sad or hurt again!"
