His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 145: Ethan Sinclair Is About to Blow His Top
The two of them had just finished eating together, both wearing matching red bracelets.
Are those couple’s bracelets?
Kiana’s heart twisted in pain; the hurt and injustice she’d felt before was nothing compared to this bone-deep ache.
She immediately looked away, quietly lowering her head.
Kate’s eyes flashed with a cunning light, and she deliberately asked with concern, "Ian’s already removed all the trending searches online. We all believe Kiana isn’t someone who would abuse animals. Isn’t there some kind of misunderstanding here?"
Rosalind gave a cold snort, "The facts are right in front of us. What misunderstanding could there be? Autumn, you can know a person’s face but not their heart—don’t forget who was responsible for your three years in a coma."
"Rosalind..."
The old lady sharply cut off Rosalind’s words. Rosalind met her icy, piercing gaze and her heart skipped a beat.
Soon after, she stubbornly snorted again, "Mom, you can’t keep favoring Sutton just because she can’t speak. She’s ruined Albatross Group this time—if you keep letting her off, the whole Sinclair Family will be destroyed by her."
Faced with Rosalind’s relentless accusations, Kiana couldn’t get a single word out.
Seeing that she looked like she could collapse at any moment, Ethan walked over and helped her to her feet.
"Grandma, I already have a general grasp of the situation. Whether or not Kiana abused the cats, I’ll look into it thoroughly and give everyone an explanation."
The old lady nodded, "Year-Year was badly frightened today. You take her home for now—we’ll talk about the rest later."
"Alright."
Ethan then turned to Kate, "Kate, let Connor take you home first."
Kate’s expression turned awkward. Ethan hadn’t said outright whether he believed Sutton abused the cats, but it was obvious he was protecting her.
Kate forced a gracious smile, "No need. I’ll just get a cab myself later."
She was smiling, but to everyone else, that smile seemed bitter and sad.
Ethan frowned slightly, but before he could say anything, Sutton shoved past him on unsteady feet and walked out of the hall.
Watching Ethan chase after Sutton, Kate’s face became even harder to look at.
The old lady wasn’t looking much better either, since she’d also noticed the red string bracelets on Ethan and Kate’s wrists.
...
Once in the car, Sutton stared out the window, not even sparing Ethan a glance.
She didn’t try to explain what happened today, let alone ask Ethan for help.
Ethan was left utterly ignored, and his irritation and anger were off the charts.
Right—he’d heard about her trouble and rushed here desperately, and this was the attitude he got?
All the time Ethan had spent with Sutton, she’d always had to initiate conversation unless it was strictly necessary—he never made the first move.
But remembering the desperate, wronged look on her face just now, he didn’t know why, but he felt a tight discomfort in his chest.
"What happened today—what exactly happened?"
Ethan rarely asked questions first, but Sutton kept her gaze fixed outside, refusing to respond.
This only made Ethan angrier; he abruptly yanked Sutton to face him, his voice ice-cold: "I’m asking you a question. Your mouth can’t speak, and now your hands can’t sign either?"
Sutton’s face, even her lips, were drained of color.
If Ethan remembered correctly, every time Sutton looked at him before, it was either fear or joy, even excitement.
But today, her pretty, doe-like eyes glistened red when she looked at him—there was nothing left but endless sorrow.
"You..."
Before he could finish, she slowly raised her hand and gestured.
"Now you can relax."
Ethan didn’t catch her meaning for a second, "What?"
"After what happened today, I won’t be able to attend the press conference. You won’t have to worry about Grandma announcing that I’m your wife, Ethan Sinclair."
Ethan’s face turned cold instantly. When he got mad, it was as though cold air radiated from him; Sutton instinctively shivered.
Her fear of him was bone-deep.
Seeing Sutton flinch and pull away, Ethan gripped her neck and forced her in front of him. "So you’re saying I set you up?"
Sutton had never actually suspected this was Ethan’s doing.
If he wanted her dead, he had plenty of ways—it didn’t make sense to drag Albatross Group into it.
She was just hurting too badly inside.
Especially after seeing him and Kate with couple’s bracelets, and remembering how helpless and desperate she’d felt while he went on dates with Kate—she couldn’t hold herself together.
She was human, and had a heart made of flesh.
She could hurt, and she could get angry.
Her nose was stinging; she didn’t want to cry in front of Ethan, so she stubbornly gestured: "Does it matter who set me up? As long as your goal is met, that’s enough."
Ethan was about to explode.
"Stop the car!"
Connor didn’t dare make a sound. Seeing it was raining outside, he carefully spoke up, "Master, it’s raining out!"
"I said stop!"
Connor didn’t dare push it, quickly pulling over to the roadside.
Ethan glared coldly at Sutton, his seductive lips spitting out cruel words, "Get out!"
Sutton didn’t hesitate for a second; she opened the door and got out.
The summer rain wasn’t that cold, but when it hit Sutton’s skin, she felt a piercing chill.
But she didn’t beg Ethan—instead, she slammed the door hard behind her.
Next second, the car shot away like an arrow from a bow.
Through the rear-view mirror, Ethan saw Sutton standing in the rain, his face dark enough to kill.
Sutton was right. After three years of marriage, he’d never wanted anyone to know she was his wife. There was no love between them, and his heart belonged elsewhere—they would divorce sooner or later.
But seeing her sign those words, he was furious beyond reason.
If he didn’t kick Sutton out of the car right now, he might just strangle her!
"Go check the security footage at the animal rescue station from today. I want to see who dared cause trouble at the Albatross Foundation."
Connor nervously swallowed, "Master, do you believe the young mistress didn’t abuse those cats?"
"Someone who’s so afraid of cats she’ll pass out from a single touch would go abuse them?"
And even more important, Sutton was cunning, used plenty of tricks, but she wasn’t stupid.
Grandma treated her so well, and the Albatross Foundation was Grandma’s pride. Even if she was deranged, on a day like today, with reporters around, why would she go to the garden to abuse a cat?
There would be no benefit to her.
She could even anger Grandma.
Grandma was her only support in the Sinclair Family; she couldn’t suck up enough, so why would she throw Grandma and the Foundation into the spotlight?
Connor hesitated for several seconds, risking Ethan’s wrath to say quickly, "If you believe the young mistress, why not tell her? You just threw her out of the car—do you realize you could lose your wif..."
Connor’s unfinished "wife" choked in his throat as Ethan’s cold, intimidating gaze snapped in his direction.
