High School Belle Fell in Love with Me-Chapter 47: The Fake College Entrance Exam
Li Yang would never skip the last big question in math, too many points at stake, can’t afford to skip it.
At most, he would find one or two questions with lower scores. Among the 600 points he has already determined, he only plans to miss two or three points.
If he can’t find suitable ones, he won’t let go of a single point, after all, he needs to leave room for error for other question types.
Night of June 6th.
Jiang Banxia sent a message to Li Yang.
"The knowledge points of that question are very comprehensive. If you don’t look at that question, don’t blame me for not competing with you fairly, although my mom told me many other things, but you didn’t ask about those questions, so it doesn’t count as me not teaching you."
Seeing this message, Li Yang knew that Jiang Banxia had adjusted her state well.
He replied: "After this period of seclusion, I’m now confident I’ll surpass you!"
Jiang Banxia: "What do you mean? Surpass me?"
"Hmm?"
Jiang Banxia: "What do you mean, hmm?"
...
June 7th, 8:59 AM.
At the exam hall of the Senior Three teaching building of Second High School, Li Yang faced the first subject of the college entrance exam, Chinese.
As soon as he got the paper, he immediately took a look at the questions.
If the questions don’t match, it’s all for nothing. He’s absolutely unable to pass, after all, for many classical Chinese passages he can’t write a single character.
His writing ability had long since declined, even though he improved it somewhat in the past month, the Chinese characters involved were limited.
The essay didn’t matter; he could avoid it on his own.
For those standard points in classical Chinese dictation, he was sure to fill the paper with mistakes.
Soon, he breathed a sigh of relief.
The questions matched! His efforts weren’t in vain!
He filled in his personal information and checked it over, and when the bell rang, he began answering questions.
The exam hall was monitored, so he maintained a proper speed in answering questions, slightly faster, but not writing down answers straightaway.
The essay topic was quite absurd; its intention wasn’t very clear, but thankfully it wasn’t restricted in form.
Li Yang strictly adhered to Jiang Banxia’s instruction, starting with a self-made famous quote close to the topic.
He figured as long as he didn’t stray from the topic, even if his handwriting was a bit ugly, he should score between forty to fifty points.
That was equivalent to completing half the task; afterwards, there was no pressure at all.
His English wasn’t stellar, but it wasn’t bad either, writing an essay was no problem.
After finishing all the questions half an hour earlier, he carefully checked everything. Except for reading comprehension and the essay, which he wasn’t sure about, there were no apparent issues.
Based on content, he felt he could score around 120 in Chinese.
Satisfied, he calmly awaited the math exam in the afternoon.
When the hand-in bell rang, under the proctor’s urgent tone, all students stood up.
"Time’s up, everyone stop writing, if you continue, it will be treated as cheating!"
...
A few minutes later, at the desk at the entrance of the exam hall, Li Yang picked up his cell phone and walked outside.
He didn’t have a teacher leading him, losing his admission ticket would be his own fault, Liu Dayou wasn’t going to remind him nicely, and even the class’s leading teacher at Second High School hadn’t proactively sought him out, probably hinted by Liu Dayou.
Just as he walked out of the Senior Three teaching building, someone called him.
"Li Yang, over here!"
He looked over and saw that it was indeed Xue Ning.
She was serious.
At that moment, Xue Ning was holding a thermos, holding it with one hand, and handed it to him: "You eat first over there, after I collect the admission tickets, I’ll come find you."
As she spoke, she also pointed to a row of tables and chairs set up beside the school corridor, where many parents were waiting for their children with food.
During school days, one is genuinely hungry.
Almost every day was a battle with hunger, even though he ate a lot for breakfast, just three or four hours later, he was famished.
Unlike entering society, where breakfast is unheard of; even lunch is only eaten out of appreciation for the stomach’s years of hard work, otherwise, he would drench it with half a bottle of beer to let it experience what it means by the saying "wine is the essence of food."
"Teacher Xue, you’re serious?"
Xue Ning smiled faintly, "Otherwise? Do you want to play pretend with me?"
Li Yang: "..."
The thermos was right there, and although it was well-sealed...
Damn! How did these dishes smell so good?
It wasn’t right to keep Xue Ning holding it, so he decisively took it over.
Once the thermos was in his hand, the fragrance wafted even stronger.
Couldn’t help it, eat first!
Li Yang found an empty seat, sat down, and opened the thermos.
Compared to the pig slop in the canteen, this meal was absolutely unprecedentedly sumptuous.
Though each dish wasn’t large in portion, there were many varieties.
A total of three meats, one vegetable, and one soup - five dishes.
Judging by the oil sheen on the surface and the steam rising from them, it must have been prepared no more than ten minutes ago, definitely a freshly cooked feast.
He distributed some rice, then took out only two dishes, keeping the rest in the thermos.
About ten minutes later, Xue Ning had collected her students’ admission tickets. When she turned her head to look at Li Yang, she found he had already finished the rice.
Not a grain left.
She came over, opened the thermos, and took out all the remaining dishes. "These are all for you, have some more."
"Aren’t you hungry?"
Xue Ning’s demeanor really resembled that of a virtuous wife and mother.
Even when drunk, but then it would resemble someone else’s.
Xue Ning: "I’ve already eaten, these were specially prepared for..."
She leaned to Li Yang’s ear and whispered, "for the financial backer."
...
The meal was meant to boost nutrition, but Li Yang almost made himself sick from overeating.
Xue Ning watched him with a cheerful smile and after he finished eating, she asked about the Chinese exam questions.
Li Yang recounted the questions, then discussed his approach with Xue Ning.
In the end, he received her approval, he hadn’t strayed off-topic.
He didn’t stray, and with no restriction on the format, Li Yang could even imagine scoring above 45 points.
points wasn’t out of the question.
Finally, she asked if Li Yang needed a nap, if it was inconvenient to return to the dormitory, they could find a secluded spot, and Xue Ning was willing to lend him her lap.
When asked, they hadn’t found a secluded spot.
The toilets at Second High didn’t allow hiding, huh?
At 2:30 PM, Li Yang started waiting below the teaching building, and ten minutes later, he began lining up at the exam hall entrance.
The math exam was his key scoring subject.
Upon seeing the exam paper, he let out another sigh of relief.
For the college entrance exam, he had a total of four breaths, the rest didn’t matter. Those four breaths were equivalent to half a life.
Doing well meant a successful restart.
Not doing well didn’t mean failure; it just meant things would be harder.
...
First High Exam Hall.
Jiang Banxia was seriously working on her questions.
Similarly, math questions were her preferred scoring choice.
In the Chinese exam, she only dared estimate her score around 125, at most 135. If she couldn’t score high in math, aiming for a total of 690 would be extremely difficult.
As she delved deeper into solving problems, an hour and a half later, she saw the last big question.
After she read it, she was dumbfounded.
They actually tested an out-of-syllabus question type.
"Damn it, Li Yang, did you really not look at it? It’s really on the test, the solution steps are exactly the same!"
