Her Dark Desires-Chapter 65: Why Is Charlotte Sanders Still Single?

Eliana chuckled when Leo ran to her the moment she came downstairs. She rubbed his head affectionately and said, "Did you sleep well, Leo? You are such a good boy."

Zach rolled his eyes and went to the living room. He frowned when he noticed the dog was following him and the moment he stopped walking, Leo also stopped.

"He likes you," Eliana stated with a smile.

Zach sighed helplessly and turned on the TV, putting it in a news Channel.

"This morning the police received Incriminating evidence of Mayor Logan Brooks. This evidence shows that our beloved Mayor has been stealing from the city, and also, a video of him going into a hotel with his sister-in-law has currently become the most talked about video in Rosehill city. Another trending topic in this city is the marriage between the only son of David Lennox and the daughter of Henry Moore, a once top businessman who was recently being investigated for fraud."

Zachary switched off the TV and asked "How close have you become to my mother?"

"Hmmmmm.....close enough to call her Mom," Eliana replied with a smile. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Oh no."

"Is that bad?"

"It isn’t, but just be careful. My mom has a way of rubbing off on someone."

"I don’t see anything wrong with that, I think she is cool. Even before we got married, I have always admired her. I’ve watched all her speeches in top event and I practically know all the awards she has won."

"Should I be jealous?"

"Of your Mom? Of course not. You will always be my number one favorite."

"I better be," Zachary replied with a smile. "Eliana, what about my Mom do you admire so much?"

"I don’t know. The first time I saw her was at an interview; at that time, I didn’t know that she was your mother, but when I saw her being interviewed, the first word that came out of my mouth was Wow. I was mesmerized; it was like I was seeing a modern-day queen. The way she spoke, walked, and even her smile was captivating, and when I found out that she was your mother, I finally understood why you were so handsome."

Zachary chuckled and said, "Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I got my look from my dad. Ryan is the one who got his pretty face from Mom."

"You were in that woman’s belly for nine months, there is no way you will tell me that some of her beautiful genes weren’t passed to you. And also why is your Mom still single? Like seriously, the woman looks nothing like her age; for a forty-five-year-old, she looks like she is still in her early thirties. I want to age just like her, like a fine wine."

Zachary scoffed in disbelief "I can’t believe I married my Mom’s fan girl. I won’t lie, this is a little disturbing."

Eliana chuckled and asked, "But seriously, though! Why is a woman like that still single?"

"Men get easily intimidated by women like that. Charlotte Sanders has beauty, brains, wealth, influential power, and two sons who would do anything for her. My Mom is a proud woman and most men prefer to be the proud ones"

"So your Mom has never been in a relationship since after your dad?"

"She has, but she has only brought one home. I think I was fifteen years old and Ryan was ten. Mom introduced us to this guy who had an eleven-year-old son as well. Ryan didn’t like the kid, and they would always fight, but no one took it seriously, until one day, they fought, and Ryan, in his anger, broke the kid’s nose. When the father came home, his son cried to him and the man took off his belt and hit Ryan with it.

At that time, I was at school while Mom was at work. We came back together, and when she found out what the man had done, she exploded. Even I was angry because Ryan was like the baby in the family. He has always been scolded, shouted at, and punished, but he has never been hit; we didn’t even care about the kid whose nose was broken; we only cared about Ryan, who was crying because he had been beaten with a belt. Mom gave him a tight slap and threatened to get him arrested but it all ended in them leaving the house."

"Wow."

"Yeah, wow. Mom must have liked that guy because I remembered her crying in her room, and when she came out, she gave Ryan and me a hug, saying we were the only ones she needed in her life. Since then, I don’t think she has ever been in a serious relationship."

"Add a good mother to the list of things I admire about her," Eliana said with a smile.

Zach, on the other hand, frowned. A good mother? Charlotte Sanders wasn’t a bad mother but he wouldn’t exactly call her a good one either. Then again, is there any parent who isn’t flawed? She was a single mother who raised two sons by herself, made a name for herself, and ensured he and his brother got the best of everything. Be it clothes, food, or education, they have always gotten the best of it and have never lacked anything. She founded the Lave Foundation, and now it has become a foundation worth a billion dollars, finally, she rose to become the most influential and powerful woman in the country, but yet during all this, she always made it home for dinner, attended all of Ryan matches and never once missed a birthday party.

"What are you thinking about?" Eliana became curious when she noticed Zach was deep in thought.

"I have never once seen her as a good mother but I never saw her as a bad one either."

Instead of judging or coming up with her conclusion, Eliana asked "Why?"

"I don’t know. Mom raised us differently; she taught us things normal parents wouldn’t teach their children. She was just so different from other parents I met."

"What about now? Do you still think she is a not good - not bad mother?"

"Now, I think she is a good mother but she is still a little bit crazy."

Eliana laughed and was surprised when Zach pulled her for a hug, saying "Thank you."

Eliana smiled and wrapped her arms around him. Hearing Zach talk about his mother made Eliana a little jealous; she wished she had a mother like that too, but she has also accepted that Sloane would never become such for her. Sloane has and will never become a mother to her.
