Her Dark Desires-Chapter 62: The Deformed Puppy
"What a cute dog." The sixty-five years vet said with a chuckle.
Zach sighed and asked "Is he alright?’
"He is a survivor. He is very malnourished; you will need to feed him well and also bring him back five days from now for another check-up."
"We will make sure to tell the shelter we will take him to that. Have him been vaccinated?" Zachary asked coldly. He could feel his wife glare at him from a corner, but he chose to ignore her.
The vet felt bad when he heard the couple were going to take this little guy to a shelter and as if hearing he was going to be abandoned, the dog whimpered softly.
"He has been vaccinated but as I said, he will need to come back five days from now." The vet replied with a smile.
"Thank you," Eliana said as she carefully carried the dog in her arms and walked out, ignoring Zach’s frown.
Zach sighed and brought out his wallet from his pocket; he removed some cash and paid the doctor, saying, "Thanks."
"You are welcome."
Zachary entered the car to see Eliana sulking and the dog sleeping in her arms.
"I won’t put Leo in a shelter."
Zachary frowned as he asked, "Who is Leo?" He looked at the dog and scoffed in disbelief "You are already naming him?"
"How can you even think of putting such a cute dog in a shelter?" Eliana asked with a hint of accusation in her voice and as if on cue, the puppy opened his big brown eyes to stared at Zach.
Zachary sighed and started the car because he knew there was no way he was going to win this argument.
....
Moore Mansion
"You fucking slut!" Henry shouted as he raised his hand to slap Sloane.
"Dad! What are you doing?" Amber shouted.
Henry pointed at Amber angrily as he said "Stay out of this. And stop calling me your father already, I’m beginning to get fed up with hearing you call me that."
Amber was shocked at her father’s outburst. He has never spoken to her like that or even hit Mom before.
"Among all men you could have slept with, it just had to be Jerry and in my home and my bed! Why? Were you so desperate to have him that you couldn’t wait to go to a hotel?"
"Screw you, Henry! I did what I did for you. Do you think Jerry would have given you a project as big as that if it was not for me? You are angry that your ego had been hurt, not because I cheated on you, or were you thinking that I was unaware of your many whores. The truth is Henry, you and the entire Moore family would be nothing without me." Sloane finally lashed out at her husband, who should be thanking her for keeping this family together.
Henry scoffed in disbelief at her words "Is that what you think?" That I am nothing without you, you think I need you." He laughed softly and said, "Well then, why don’t we put that to theory."
"What?"
"Let’s get a divorce. I’m suddenly curious if my achievement in life has been thanks to you."
"You are joking."
"I will contact my lawyers and send you the paper," Henry said and was about to walk out when Sloane stood in front of him and said.
"Do you think Amber and Jason’s marriage will work out if we both get divorced? People will talk about us and Amber getting married to the family will only end up ruining their reputation. David also loves his reputation even more than his business, so do you think he won’t begin to have second thoughts about their marriage? If that happens, you will also lose everything."
Henry glared at Sloane, but the woman only smiled and said, "If you think tonight’s humiliation was enough for you, then I am telling you that if this marriage does not go through, then what you experience tonight would only be the tip of the iceberg. This is why I do the things I do, it is only because you are unable to use your brain. Divorce? You think you have the right to divorce me after everything I have done for you, not even in your dreams will that happen because the only way you will leave me is through death." Sloane said; she looked at Amber and spared one more glance at Henry before saying, "It has been a long night; let’s get some sleep."
Sloane elegantly walked to her room, and when she saw that Amber was not by her side, she coldly asked, "Aren’t you coming?"
Amber came out of a daze when she heard her mother’s cold voice and quickly replied, "I’m coming."
Left alone in the living room, Henry clenched his fist tightly and walked out of the house.
...
Rieve Estate.
Ever since he woke up, Zachary has been in a bad mood and the reason for it was a dog named Leo. He still could not believe that there was a dog in his house and the first thing his wife did when she woke up was to bathe him.
"I think we should buy him some dog toys," Eliana said, rubbing Leo’s head as he slowly ate his food.
"Do whatever you want," Zach replied grumpily as he poured himself a glass of juice.
Eliana frowned when she heard his reply and looked at him. "Why don’t you like Leo?"
"Who says I don’t like him?"
"Your entire facial expression whenever I talk about him says you don’t like him."
"And if I admit I don’t like him, will you take him to a shelter?" Zachary suddenly asked.
"But why don’t you like him?" Eliana asked as her eyes became teary. Why does the thought of dropping Leo in an animal shelter make her so sad?
Before Zach could answer Eliana’s question, the doorbell rang, cutting the tension that was growing between the couple.
"I will go get it," Zach said, he felt so bad seeing Eliana sad, and for a moment, he wished he could retract his words.
Zach opened the door and saw his brother, who walked inside as if it was his home, and said, "I’m starving; please tell me there is food."
Zach closed the door and replied, "I believe you know your way to a restaurant."
Ryan stood and looked at the animal who was staring back at him "What is that?"
Eliana frowned at his question and asked "Can’t you see? It’s a dog."
Ryan looked at his brother in surprise and then back at Eliana as he asked "Why does it look deformed?"
"It doesn’t look deformed, it’s just malnourished. With some little care, it will be better looking, but Zach wants us to send him to an animal shelter, and he wouldn’t even tell me why." Eliana glared at Zach as she finished his statement.
Ryan looked between the couple and said "It seems I came at the wrong time." He slowly took a step back to leave when he heard his brother’s voice.
"Sit down and have breakfast. I will go change." Zach said and went upstairs to change his clothes.
After Zach left, Ryan’s attention went back to the dog. How can a dog look so scary and adorable at the same time?
"Do you also hate dogs?" Eliana asked, seeing the way Ryan was looking at Leo.
Ryan chuckled and said, "Neither Zach nor I hate dogs."
"Then why....."
"Because he once had a dog that died when he was twelve years old. I still remember that day because he had cried his eyes out had refused food for three days. Perhaps to Zach, having another dog does nothing but bring back memories of his first pet that died. Just give it some time, hopefully, he will come around."
