Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are Are So Dangerous! [BL]-Chapter 135: Unraveling Secrets and Hidden Agendas
Chapter 135: Unraveling Secrets and Hidden Agendas
Although the current situation was filled with unexpected developments, Rocco realized it wasn’t entirely surprising.
The novel never explored the relationship between the two heads, which left him observing this exchange as if it were all brand-new.
The scenario itself could be seen as shaped by the selective editing necessary to adapt it into a novel.
Everything would make sense if one considered that some events were simply omitted in the book’s narrative.
In that sense, the irregularities Rocco had noticed might not be irregularities at all—just events that had occurred "off-screen" and hadn’t been depicted in the story.
"Well, that aside," Makarov said, removing his hand from his chin and leaning back against the chair. "Let’s talk about this enemy. Under what circumstances did their existence come to light? And what makes you label them a big player?"
Rocco paused his own swirling thoughts to focus on the conversation.
Makarov’s languid tone might have sounded casual, but his questions were on point.
Rocco, too, was curious.
All he knew was that a third party was involved in the Assassin Guild situation, but he hadn’t been privy to the details.
Marcus nodded gravely at Makarov’s inquiry, his expression thoughtful as he responded.
"...The Di Malvento family had no involvement in the Assassin Guild’s Guildmaster’s death. However, we also have no suspects within the circle of people we are familiar with. It’s worth noting that the Assassin Guild was an indispensable part of the underworld."
"True," Makarov agreed, his tone now contemplative. "From a mafia’s perspective, no family would have had any incentive to destroy an intermediary as established as the Assassin Guild."
Everyone around the table seemed deep in thought.
The scene felt like a mystery novel coming to life, and Rocco couldn’t help but find it a little fun.
He fancied himself a young detective—Sherlock Holmes or perhaps a boy sleuth.
As much as he wanted to coolly deduce the culprit and declare "In the name of my grandfather, I’ll solve this case!" his limited brainpower left little room for such fantasies.
So, Detective Rocco decided to leave this one to the others, silently cheering, Go team, solve it for me!
"The first lead on this enemy surfaced after Georgio’s sister’s death," Marcus explained. "Georgio, am I correct on that point?"
"Yup, that’s exactly right!" Georgio replied cheerfully.
The response to Marcus’s stern voice came smoothly from Georgio, Rocco’s trusted aide.
Now that he thought about it, Rocco realized that Georgio had pretty much been the main character in this situation.
It was only now that he remembered that.
When his father called on him, Georgio, without the slightest hesitation or nervousness, began explaining the situation with ease.
"When my sister was killed, I was being stalked by the Assassin Guild. So, I thought maybe they were the ones who did it... but the thing is, the killer said something that didn’t really sound like something the Assassin Guild would say."
"The killer spoke to you?" Makarov asked, blinking in confusion. "And does this have anything to do with the Assassin Guild?"
Georgio responded casually, "Of course, it’s totally connected."
Now that Rocco thought about it, it didn’t seem like there was any real connection between Georgio’s past revenge and the murder of the Assassin Guild’s Guildmaster by a third party.
Those two incidents seemed unrelated.
Sensing Rocco’s confusion, Georgio flashed a sheepish grin and gave an awkward laugh.
"The killer’s goal in my sister’s case was probably to recruit me. She was in the way of that, so they killed her. As for this time... I think the goal was to silence the Guildmaster."
"Silence him? So, you’re saying the Assassin Guild is a third party? Are you suggesting the killer is the same person who killed your sister?"
The question came from Laxus, who had apparently grown tired of staying silent for so long.
Seeing Georgio falter as he struggled to explain, Marcus answered the question instead.
"...The mastermind is someone with enough power to control the Assassin Guild. They have the strength to overwhelm someone like Georgio the Hyena, and they’re brazenly arrogant with grand ambitions. It’s only natural to consider that the two incidents were committed by the same person."
Marcus who seemed fatigued, passed the explanation over to Georgio.
"I don’t know why the mastermind was using the Assassin Guild as a pawn," Georgio began. "But what I do know is that the mastermind is the same person who killed my sister. And if it’s the same person, that means their ultimate goal is the destruction of the two great families."
"Does the ultimate goal relate to something the mastermind said to you?" Makarov asked, leaning in.
"Exactly!" Georgio grinned. "I’m not good at explaining things, so it helps when you catch on quickly."
Georgio continued to smile for a moment, but then suddenly switched to a more serious tone as he muttered.
"’To bring despair and decline to the two great families. Now is the time to rule the kingdom’s underworld.’"
"..."
"Those were the words of the person who killed my sister."
After Georgio spoke, the room fell into a heavy silence.
Everyone seemed lost in their own thoughts, pondering over the difficult discussion.
Rocco, unable to follow along, remained confused and unsure of what was going on.
He tried to blend in with the serious atmosphere, hurriedly folding his arms coolly, though he was still clueless.
He didn’t really understand what was happening, but he hoped he could at least appear like he was involved in the conversation.
"Hmm... I see," came the first voice to break the silence, as always, it was Makarov.
With a small smile, Makarov nodded, and the rest of the group followed suit, all agreeing with a quiet nod.
"Well, based on the conversation so far, we’ve narrowed down the mastermind’s identity quite a bit."
Rocco was on the brink of crying out in despair, but managed to hold it in just in time.
"Wait, everyone already knows who it is? Isn’t that too quick?" he thought, as cold sweat began to pour down his face like a waterfall.
