Hello, Ex! I Finally Found My Worth!-Chapter 125: Spill It
Chapter 125 - Spill It
Ivy sat at her desk, the soft glow of her computer screen illuminating her face as she typed away at the restaurant report.
The rhythmic clicking of the keyboard echoed in her quiet office, but her mind kept drifting. No matter how much she tried to focus on her work, her thoughts kept circling back to Hunter.
Last night had been magical, and this morning had only made her feelings grow stronger. The way he'd made breakfast, and how gentle he had been with her—it all lingered in her heart like a warm embrace she couldn't shake.
She was grinding from thinking all about it when a sudden knock on her door pulled her out of her thoughts.
"Come in," she called, straightening in her chair.
Selena, her secretary, stepped inside holding a large bouquet of soft pink roses wrapped in elegant white paper. A small box of what looked like chocolates was nestled against the flowers.
"For you, Ms. Anderson," Selena said with a teasing smile, setting the bouquet and chocolates on her desk.
Ivy blinked, heat rising to her cheeks as she stared at the beautiful arrangement. She didn't need to check the card to know exactly who they were from.
It was from Hunter. She smiled thinking about the first time he had sent her flowers too. Then, he had been trying to get her just so he could prove he could get any woman, but then today he was sending her flowers again even after getting what he wanted with her.
Selena's grin widened as Ivy remained silent, clearly flustered. "Ooooh, secret admirer? Who's the lucky guy?" she teased, leaning slightly on the desk when she saw the blush in Ivy's face.
Ivy rolled her eyes, though her heart pounded in her chest. "It's none of your business, Lena," she said, reaching for the box of chocolates and inspecting the label.
Selena gasped in mock offense. "Oh, come on! You can't just receive flowers and chocolates twice in a month without sharing the gossip. Spill it!"
Ivy shook her head, laughing softly. "I'm serious, mind your business before I add extra tasks to your schedule."
Selena pouted playfully but held up her hands in surrender. "Fine, fine. But I'm onto you, Ms. Anderson."
With a dramatic sigh, she turned and left the office, leaving Ivy alone with the thoughtful gifts.
The moment the door shut, Ivy exhaled, her fingers lightly grazing the petals. They were perfect. Delicate, soft, and full of life. Just like the way she was feeling lately.
She picked up the small card tucked in the bouquet and unfolded it with trembling fingers.
For the most beautiful woman I know. – Hunter.
Her heart flipped. How does he know how to make me feel special?
Smiling, she grabbed her phone, ready to call him and thank him for the surprise. But just as she was about to dial, the screen lit up with his name.
Her stomach did a flip. She took a calming breath before answering. "Hey, you," she greeted softly, unable to hide the smile in her voice.
"Hey, beautiful," Hunter's deep voice came through, making her toes curl. "What are you up to?"
Ivy glanced at the flowers again, heart fluttering. "Just admiring the gorgeous bouquet someone sent me. And the chocolates—— how did you know these were my favorite?" she asked even though she knew exactly how.
Hunter chuckled, the sound sending warmth straight to her chest. "You seriously do not expect me to have forgotten how you pleaded for me to give it to you—"
Ivy burst out laughing, "That's enough, Mr. I only asked because I wanted to know if I was the only one with the memory," she said and Hunter laughed.
"Trust me, Ivy," he murmured, his voice softer. "I remember everything when it comes to you."
Her breath caught for a moment, the sincerity in his words wrapping around her heart. She felt like she was melting right there in her chair.
"So... you just called to make me blush or was there another reason?" she teased, trying to keep her voice light, but her pulse was racing.
Hunter chuckled again. "Maybe a little of both. I just wanted to hear your voice. And, well, I had to make sure you got the flowers."
"I did," she whispered, her fingers brushing the petals again. "And I love them. Thank you, Hunter. Really."
There was a brief silence on the line, the kind that wasn't awkward but filled with unspoken feelings.
"Ivy," he said quietly, "I meant every word on that card. You're incredible. And I—"
Before he could finish, a knock came on her door again.
"I... I need to go," she said, feeling the heat rising in her cheeks again. "But thank you, Hunter. For everything."
"Anytime, beautiful." His voice was warm, lingering like a gentle caress as the call ended.
Ivy set the phone down, pressing her fingers to her lips. What are you doing to me, Hunter? She thought and when the knock came again, she quickly called in Selena.
After Selena had left, she smiled, thoughts of her conversation with Hunter filling her.
Still feeling the butterflies in her stomach, she scrolled through her contacts and tapped Emma's name, deciding to call her best friend to tell her all about her feelings.
It rang twice before Emma's chipper voice filled the line. "Ivy! Hey, what's up?"
"I'm very good. More than good, Em," Ivy said excitedly and Emma raised an amused brow.
"I can feel that. You sound... suspiciously happy," Emma said and Ivy giggled, unable to stop herself.
"I have something to tell you," she said, her excitement doubling over.
"Oh my gosh, spill! What happened?" Emma said unable to control her curiosity.
Ivy took a deep breath. "I'm in love with Hunter," she announced happily.
"Wait, wait, wait. Hunter, like the Hunter? Your employee? The one you said wasn't your type?" Emma asked, her lips curling in amusement.
Ivy groaned, already regretting how much she had complained about him in the past. "Yes, that Hunter. And I never said he wasn't my type—"
"Oh, you totally did," Emma interrupted with a laugh. "Multiple times. Like, 'he's too cocky' and 'I don't mix business with pleasure.' Need I go on? Or do I remind you how bent you were on not employing him?"
Ivy rolled her eyes, though she was grinning. "Okay, fine. I might have said those things. But things change, Emma. I got to know him and I found out that He's... different. Sweet. Thoughtful. And we just... I like him, Em."
Emma's teasing softened. "Aww, Ivy. I'm happy for you. Really. I can hear it in your voice. You sound... lighter. Happier."
Ivy nodded, even though her friend couldn't see her. "I am. But also, it's so weird, right? Dating someone who works for me?"
Emma snorted. "Please. Like you're the first woman to fall for a hot coworker. Besides, the heart wants what it wants, right?" she said glancing at Alex who was tapping away on his laptop.
Ivy smiled, feeling warmth bloom in her chest. "Yeah... I guess so."
Emma paused before asking, "So... how serious is this? Like, is he boyfriend material, or are we talking casual?"
Ivy hesitated, then shook her head. "It feels serious. I mean, we haven't talked about labels yet, but... I think we're getting there."
"Wow," Emma said softly. "I never thought I'd hear you say that."
"Neither did I." Ivy sighed. "Hey, want to catch up tomorrow? There's this new lounge I want to show you."
"Ooh, fancy. What lounge?" Emma asked curiously.
Ivy grinned. "It's a surprise. Just trust me, you'll love it."
"Alright, mystery woman. I'm holding you to it. See you tomorrow!" Emma said with a laugh before hanging up.
Ivy set her phone down, heart full, cheeks warm. She had never felt so content before and the feeling made her happy.
