HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 90: Noah’s public appearance (2)
’’Did I just hear Noah?’’
’’Noah Kingston?!’’
’’There’s another Kingston. Who’s he?’’
’’That’s the name of the first young master!’’
’’The first young master?’’
’’I don’t recall seeing him before.’’
’’I think the funeral years ago was last time I saw him.’’
’’Well, he has always been inactive in social events.’’
’’I heard he was sickly though.’’
’’Haven’t you heard the rumors? The Young master Easmond apparently found the cure to his illness.’’
’’Really? I assumed they were false and just rumors.’’
’’You think the Young master Easmond is like the Former Young miss Easmond. He’s the true genius for a reason.’’
*murmur*
*murmur*
As for the spectating guests, they were watching the drama unfold before their very eyes with full interest. The President Kingston’s attendance was one thing. The attendance of the sickly first young master who appeared not so sickly anymore, was another.
’’Oh dear! Is this the First young master?’’ Madam Hitson let out an intentional gasp. ’’We were just discussing you with first young miss. It seems your health is much better than we assumed from her.’’ Her voice was quite loud as she joined the reunited family of four from behind with a bright smile.
Madam Hitson wasn’t one to lose out from a family drama, especially the likes of Lucinda who had always depicted her family to be so perfect without problems.
She absolutely could not miss a perfect opportunity to strike the iron when it’s hot against her nemesis.
’’Indeed, as one would expect from a son of Lucinda. How handsome.’’ Her eyes briefly scanned Noah from head to toe with clear approval.
The rumors of the first young master being cured from his illness appeared to be very true. It would be much better for her daughter to marry the legitimate first young master than a mere adopted young master.
The only misgiving about the union was the age gap, but Madam Hitson believed full heartedly that mature men were more understanding and reliable than the younger ones
On the other hand, Lucinda cared less about the troublesome and shameless Madam Hitson. All her senses were focused on the grown man before her gaze.
’...Noah...’ Lucinda observed him in her mind. To think there would come a time where she could stare at her son on his feet, looking healthy and full of life.
As if sensing her scrutinizing gaze, Noah met hers and greeted calmly. ’’Hello, Eldest madam.’’
His eyes were indifferent, as if regarding a stranger despite the blood ties between them.
Eldest madam. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The clear alienation between them as mother and child....as family.
*Pang*
Her heart stung from the obvious estrangement between them.
At the moment, Lucinda had never hated that title more than now.
She nearly took a step back, unable to peer more into those calm eyes void of any feelings towards her.
It would be a lie if she admitted to anyone that her heart had felt nothing towards Noah.
He was her first child.
Her first son and an extension of her blood.
But...her husband, Mark, valued children with worth in their family. As his wife, she whole-heartedly supported his goals to be the head of the Kingston family. Noah, as a sickly new-born babe, held no worth despite being their first-born child.
His birth had given her complications as a woman to birth more children for her ambitious husband, and also in her marriage because Mark had blamed her for not giving him a proper first child.
The happiness that their first child was a son, had become short-lived the moment the doctors had diagnosed Noah as a sickly one incapable of living long.
To Lucinda, Noah was the very source of issues in her marriage and life as a woman. At the same time, she somewhat held tender feelings towards him as her very first child.
’’Y-Yes...hello...’’
It became quite hard for Lucinda to return the greetings. Her throat felt stuck and heavy as though a lump was in the way.
’’...Y-You....’’ look very healthy.
She wanted to say, but struggled to do so.
Indeed, her son looked very healthy, but then what? Would his good health erase the problems between them as a family? She and Mark had pretty much abandoned him for a long time.
They hadn’t even bothered to confirm rumors of his treatment, assuming they were based on lies. How many doctors had dashed their hopes, saying he could never be healed and they should be prepared for the worst at any time?
Yet an infamous playboy who was apparently a genius, suddenly found the cure and perfectly treated their sickly son?
The story was utterly unbelievable. It also had not help that the Easmond family had become questionable because their former young miss had been imprisoned for one of her crimes being murder.
Who knew if the Young master Easmond was also a liar despite the videos and evidence of his claims?
However, all doubts were washed away with the appearance of their sickly son, who looked very healthy and matured since the last time they had seen him.
Lucinda pursed her lips, struggling to come up with a conversation that she could discuss with her son. The location of their first meeting in a very long time also did not help her. The attention from the guests practically pressured her, since she had always been conscious of her public image.
On the side, Mark briefly glanced at her. His eyes flashed with fleeting contempt before breaking the tension between them.
’’It’s been a while, son.’’ He smiled, acting normal as if nothing had happened. ’’You seem to be doing very well with your cousins as their guardian. Your mother and I are very proud of their good upbringing.’’ He took the stance of a kind elder, uncle and father, worried for the younger generations.
’So well that you surprised us like this.’
Mark’s hazel eyes shifted slightly as his suspicious nature heightened to the fullest on the spot. The son who he had no expectations from, suddenly turned out quite different from his memories.
As far as Mark had known, Noah wasn’t one interested in anything apart from his failing health. It had been quite a surprise when his aloof son had become the guardian of his niece and nephew.
As if that had not been enough surprise, the same sickly son, out of nowhere, became the president of the Kingston corporation.
A position he had been struggling to achieve his whole life!
