Chapter 88: Lucinda’s birthday (3)

Want your daughter to be her daughter-in-law?

Not a chance.

Lucinda could barely contain herself whenever this woman came with the intention of stirring trouble. How would she be able endure more when they become family? She was in no way in support of Lilian and Liam’s union.

How could Madam Hitson not understand what her nemesis was implying?

She forced out a laugh, attempting to mask her rising irritation. "Indeed, but genuine admiration never grows old. Or does it, Young Master Liam?"

She directed the question to Liam on the side.

Did Lucinda think she was that persistent? Her daughter has other marriage offers and proposals lining for their family, but her dear Lilian hinted her feelings at the adopted son of the Kingston family.

As a mother, what could she do other than to support her daughter? Even if she didn’t quite approve of this adopted young master, Madam Hitson could only swallow her words and be upfront about it.

Frankly speaking, he was just a mere adopted son with no blood-relation to the Kingston family. That also meant he had no right to any of their inheritance. The same would be for her daughter if she eventually married him, which she absolutely did not want.

This was the reason why she didn’t bother to pay attention to someone like him from the beginning.

Her daughter deserved the best and not a mere adopted son, rumored to be Lucinda’s distant relative which Madam Hitson did not buy the excuse.

She had known Lucinda for a very long time. Why did she not hear any news of a distant relative back then? Nowadays, anyone could become a distant relative.

It would be best if this adopted son married into her own family and change his surname. However, men were very prideful creatures to their bones. How many of them could accept marrying into their wives’ family?

Madam Hitson also looked down on his career as an actor. No...it was more to say she held disdain for those of the entertainment industry. She has heard many news and had witnessed some of their scheming tricks and plans just to enter families like hers.

The adopted son could might as well be playing a role for them as a humble man. She didn’t want her naïve daughter and her family to become victims.

If only the first young master was active....Madam Hitson suddenly paused and remembered that there was indeed a first young master of the Kingston family.

Lucinda’s first child and true son!

’’I’ve always appreciated all sorts of admiration, Madam Hitson.’’ Madam Hitson heard from Liam, who replied to her question.

His gaze then shifted to the Lilian who appeared momentarily startled by them. ’’I’m very honored to be accept your admiration, Young miss Hitson.’’ His lips curled into a smile that brightened up his handsome features.

Like a prince from a fairytale.

The sight left a faint flush on her cheeks, and not just her, but the nearby young misses who had been throwing him shy glances.

’’First young master is quite a smooth-talker.’’

’’I know. Even my heart couldn’t help but flutter a bit.’’

’’Eldest madam must enjoy hearing such words.’’

The remarks rippled among the spectating madams. If they were maidens once again, they would be like the bashful young miss Hitson and the other young misses.

After all, which lady wouldn’t swoon at such charming words from the man she admired?

The only exception among the madams was the Madam Hitson. For some reason, she frowned upon on this smooth talker of a young master. With such lips that uttered honey-sweet words to the opposite gender, wouldn’t her daughter struggle with rivals or even mistresses during their marriage?

The last hesitation Madam Hitson held towards Liam quickly vanished like a puff of smoke. This type of man was certainly not good and trustworthy of her daughter.

She did not truly comprehend why Lucinda and her family would bother to adopt a stranger. Perhaps it was to replace the sickly first young master when he died or reasons entirely different.

Then again, words spread around that the sickly first young master was no longer as frail as he once was.

According to these rumors, this had something to do with the true genius of the Easmond family, the infamous former playboy, Young master Easmond.

Madam Hitson did not get the full the details of what happened, but it was said the first young master was no more sickly. Why hasn’t Lucinda and her family said anything about it?

Haven’t they confirmed the rumors or....

Madam Hitson suddenly realized that she was caring too much of her nemesis and pushed aside all thoughts concerning the fake woman.

No...why should she be thinking of Lucinda’s business when she should voice out her honest thoughts? Particularly when it would humiliate Lucinda and expose her hypocrisy!

And so, she did.

’’Indeed, You’re quite the smooth talker. This reminds so much of our time when we were top beauties of our class. Isn’t that right, Lucinda?’’ Madam Hitson said, feigning a wistful tone as though struck by nostalgia.

She didn’t wait for Lucinda’s response before continuing. ’’I wonder if the first young master is quite the smooth talker himself. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen him. How is he doing by the way, Lucinda?’’ Madam Hitson asked with a thoughtful grin.

if her guesses were correct. Lucinda and her family had barely paid attention to the first young master all these years.

And it seemed to be so with flicker of unease she caught on Lucinda’s elegant countenance. Madam Hitson’s smile almost stretched out when she heard no immediate reply from her nemesis.

Her guesses were indeed right.

"I heard he’s in good health now. That’s certainly something worth celebrating, especially since the first young master is your first child, Lucinda.’’ She continued seeming oblivious to Lucinda’s discomfort. ’’I can’t help but wonder why haven’t I received any invitations? Has anyone else here received one?" Madam Hitson looked around the gathered madams who exchanged awkward glances.

She snickered at their expressions in her heart. It seemed some of them just remembered that there was a first young master. The rumors were there, but not all believed since the first young master had been very inactive for a long time.

’’...You...’’ Lucinda struggled to come up with a response. She could barely contain herself as the urge to glare hatefully at Madam Hitson nearly overwhelmed her.

Why did the Madam Hitson have to bring up her sickly son whom she had abandoned a long time ago? She had always forced herself to forget about him, yet this woman just had to bring him up on her special day.

’’Thank you for your concerns and suggestions, Madam Hitson. Elder brother is doing very well.’’ A calm yet firm voice cut through the tension, and all eyes turned to Arabella, who had been silent until now

As always, she was gorgeously dressed and styled for the event, just like every other guests in the banquet hall.

’’As you said earlier, he’s in good health now.’’ She continued. ’’Everyone is more or less aware of how bad his health had been since we were children. Please just understand that we’re trying to take it easy with him as a family.’’ Her voice carried an unmistakably edge that she pointedly used to address this troublesome Madam Hitson.

Arabella could not risk her reputation being damaged once again. Her family was more or less now active on social media, and they were undeniably connected to her.

If the word spread that her family had neglected her sick elder brother, Arabella knew the scandal would be far worse than anything she had faced in the past.

Noah’s existence was pretty much non-existent to her fans. She had never claimed to have an elder brother before Liam.

Even resolving the scandal might take a long time and that time would undeniably affect her career. Family was very valued and a brother was definitely more than a cousin.

Either way, Arabella couldn’t allow this woman to destroy her career through her family.

Just then, another wave of murmurs rippled through the banquet hall, far louder and more intense than the arrival of Arabella and Liam.

’’..Isn’t that President Kingston?!"
