Chapter 59: The Easmond family

’’Mother.’’

’’Freya.’’

Freya Easmond intimately held the hands of her mother who headed her way and introduced the older woman to the crowd around her.

’’Everyone, this is my mother.’’ She announced proudly.

Freya’s mother nodded with a gracious smile. ’’Thank you all for celebrating my daughter’s happy day.’’

’’You have given birth to such an amazing daughter, Mrs. Easmond.’’

’’I see where you got your grace from, Miss Easmond.’’

’’You should be incredibly proud, Mrs. Easmond.’’

The guests such as renowned doctors and researchers in the medical field showered the mother and daughter pair one compliments after the other.

The mother and daughter basked in the warm and flattery remarks for a moment before the older woman’s gaze shifted subtly.

’’My mother-in-law asks for her granddaughter. Please excuse us, everyone.’’ Freya’s mother addressed the crowd and smoothly took her daughter away.

’’Look, that’s the Young miss Easmond.’’

’’She’s the heir to the Easmond family.’’

’’She? What of the Young master Easmond?’’

’’How can a good for nothing young master compare to a one-in-a-lifetime genius?"

As always, Freya Easmond enjoyed the positive attention that had always been given to her. She could never get tired of the words that puts her on an untouchable pedestal.

Genius. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

A one-in-a-lifetime genius.

The favored descendant of the Easmond family.

The famed medical prodigy.

The genius young miss of the Easmond family.

She has been called certain names that elevated her existence all throughout her life and Freya could never be tired of them.

’’But I heard the Young master Easmond always hangs out with Young president Kratos?’’

’’Don’t forget the President Kingston too!’’

’’Shouldn’t they be on the Young miss Easmond’s good side?"

Freya’s serene smile faltered for a moment, though her composure remained impeccable. Indeed, just as there was black in this world, they must be white.

As many praised her names to skies, they would also dirty her cousin’s name into the mud. This was nothing more than seeking favor from her since her cousin was deemed useless and worthless in their eyes.

Freya had never been close to her cousin from her eldest uncle.

A sense of rivalry had existed between them for as long as she could remember, though it wasn’t born of disputes over inheritance.

It stemmed from a deeper, more personal rift—one rooted in the relationship between their grandparents.

Her grandmother, the current head and old madam of the Easmond family was actually the second wife of her late grandfather.

She was a stepmother to her eldest uncle, and also a step grandmother to her cousin.

Her late grandfather’s first wife succumbed to an illness, and then her grandmother entered into the Easmond family as the second wife.

The comparison of both women couldn’t have gone by unnoticed. Her cousin’s grandmother came from an equally prestigious family like the Easmond’s. Her grandmother, on the other hand, was just a nurse under her late grandfather.

Rumors would definitely have circulated around during that time.

From then on, there was already tension within the family between her grandmother and her eldest uncle’s family.

’’Grandmother.’’ Freya smiled warmly as she approached the side of the banquet hall where her grandmother sat elegantly with her father standing on the side.

Both their expressions couldn’t hide the pride they held for her.

’’Freya, my dear.’’ The Old Madam Easmond’s voice softened with affection as her wrinkly old hands reached out for her granddaughter, and Freya intimately held them without hesitation.

Old madam Easmond’s discerning eyes studied her granddaughter’s exquisite countenance, and a satisfied gleam lingered in them. Freya, her brilliant and beautiful granddaughter, had become everything she had dreamed of and much more.

Her precious granddaughter who had given her the status and reputation she had always vied for in her life.

Indeed, there was no need for having a prestigious background from birth. It was the descendants that truly mattered.

When she had entered the Easmond family as the second wife, she had endured the humiliation of being branded a schemer and a home-wrecker. Even after giving the family a son, she had remained in the shadow of her husband’s late first wife—a woman born into prestige and regarded with reverence by society.

But now?

Those same people who had mocked her were vying for her favor, desperately trying to align themselves with her family.

The lowly nurse who had schemed to enter the bed of a married man as his mistress.

Such hypocrites and two-faced people.

Even if her own child couldn’t compare to that woman’s son back then, her granddaughter was a one-in-a-lifetime genius more than that woman’s son.

Her descendant had even worn over that woman’s good-for-nothing descendant!

Indeed, the heavens had not forsaken her hard life.

’’You should rest a bit, Freya.’’ Old madam Easmond looked at her granddaughter more gently as she recalled her past.

Her granddaughter was not just an asset to the family, but also a vindication of her life’s struggles. These achievements had silenced every whisper of doubt, and every insult that had once been thrown at her.

The old master who had always blamed her when the reputation of the family hit rock bottom should be smiling down at her from there, right? This good descendant of the family had come from her own blood!

That woman should also be envious of her good granddaughter!

’’That’s not right, grandmother.’’ Freya shook her head with a graceful smile. ’’I do want anyone to say that I’m arrogant because of my achievements.’’

Old madam Easmond snorted at her words. ’’Who would speak badly of my Freya? They should see if they are ready to face my family.’’

’’I am alright, grandmother.’’ Freya’s smile widened at her grandmother. ’’As the host, I should be courteous to the guest who have come to celebrate with me.’’

The Old Madam didn’t entirely agree. She disliked seeing her precious granddaughter smile at people she knew didn’t deserve it. They had once insulted her, but she understood the importance of having these relationships. There was nothing she could do other than to agree to her granddaughter’s words.

Indeed, her granddaughter needed connections if the family could flourish more.

’’Watch Freya closely, Sienna.’’ Old madam Easmond could only turn to her daughter-in-law with an order.

’’Yes, mother.’’ Sienna, Freya’s mother, gladly accepted the orders of her mother-in-law.

Though her relationship with her mother-in-law had never been particularly warm given her lowly origins, Sienna could endure the rudeness from the latter.

Her daughter has been hailed as the genius of the family, and reputed as one of the best young misses in the city.

As a mother, who wouldn’t be proud to have such a child?

Even if her mother-in-law had always disrespected her for not giving to birth to a son like her eldest sister-in-law, her Freya was ten times better than the only grandson of the Easmond family.

’’What is the commotion about?’’ Old madam Easmond frowned at the sudden rise of the murmurs.

Freya looked over to the source of the murmurs and her smile deepened at the sight of a familiar face.

’’The Kingston family have come to greet us, grandmother.’’ She informed her grandmother.
