Chapter 25: The Kratos Family (1)

As someone who has been serving the Old master Kratos for a long time, Butler Davis had seen all sorts of luxurious gifts.

The Kratos family has been one with an influential standing, so it wasn’t surprising that many families would want to have a connection through arranged marriages, event invitations and also gifts.

Gems of limited editions, real diamonds....what has he not seen as gifts from others?

However, today was the first time that someone would gift fruits and vegetables personally to the Kratos family. And it was from a family with equal standing.

Rather than showcasing her wealth, the Young miss Kingston expressed her concerns and filial piety as a younger generation to an elderly like the Old master Kratos.

Her caring actions instantly left a good impression on Butler Davis. He could see why the Old master Kratos had been praising the Young miss Kingston to the heavens non-stop, and also been expecting her arrival.

’’Does young miss have any particular taste?’’ He inquired, handing off the woven basket to a maid, who then followed closely behind.

’’Not really. But I do prefer some chrysanthemum tea if available, Butler Davis.’’ Ayana replied honestly with a small smile when the butler asked about her taste.

As the only daughter of the influential Kingston family, Ayana was accustomed to having every material desire within reach.

One of them was Chrysanthemum tea. A refreshing flavor tea that held a unique place in her heart. She had cultivated such taste in her past life as a growing young lady.

Though, it was thanks to Lucinda and Arabella that she had discovered such part of herself in her past life. The pair of mother and daughter had always lived a lavish life by spending the fortune of the Kingston family.

’Chrysanthemum tea, you say? How interesting, Ayana. You and flowers seem to share an undeniable connection. Your name does mean ’flowers,’ after all.’ The face of a man with an elegant countenance resurfaced in her mind.

Her smile faltered, and her mood vividly dropped when she recalled that memory.

’’Young miss?’’ Perhaps sensing the downhearted atmosphere behind, Butler Davis stopped on the spot and turned his body halfway with concern written all over his face.

"N-No, I just remembered something, Butler Davis," Ayana replied, attempting to mask her unease with a light laugh.

’How sensitive.’ She remarked inwardly. This man was definitely worthy of being a butler for the Kratos family. She hadn’t said a word, yet he was quick to detect the sudden change of her mood.

Either way, Ayana hoped he wouldn’t press further. Her heart skipped a beat when the butler’s keen eyes lingered on her for a moment.

"If Young miss says so." Much to her relief, he accepted her words and turned back as they resumed their walk down the elegant hallway.

Ayana let out a barely perceptible sigh, grateful that he hadn’t asked further. Wanting to forget that unwanted memory, she quickly shifted her focus, letting her gaze wander over the hallway’s sophisticated décor— the marble floors gleaming beneath crystal chandeliers, walls adorned with fine art, and intricately carved moldings that displayed the wealth of the Kratos family.

’’I didn’t expect young miss to have a sophisticated taste.’’ She momentarily glanced at Butler Davis, who remarked about her choice of drink.

’’It’s just chrysanthemum tea, Butler Davis.’’ Ayana stated in a soft voice and continued admiring the interior décor of the mansion.

’Well....’

Butler Davis didn’t just think it was chrysanthemum tea. He was actually surprised to hear that kind of tea from a twelve-year-old. Didn’t youngsters nowadays prefer sodas and drinks with little alcohol? He did not expect the Young miss Kingston to prefer some herbal tea.

’The young master is no different either.’ Butler Davis suddenly remembered that the Old master Kratos’ grandson mostly drank water and nothing else with his meals.

The sixteen-year-old teenager had quite a strict diet.

The rest of the walk passed in silence as Ayana followed Butler Davis through the vast corridors until they arrived at a set of French doors that opened to a lush garden. She stepped outside alone without the butler and the quiet maid. Her eyes instinctively squinted at the sudden exposure of light.

Ayana unconsciously raised her hands over her eyes to block the light rays as the gentle warmth of summer embraced her.

’’Wow....’’ She exclaimed softly as her eyes widened slightly in amazement, taking in the wondrous sight of the garden

Sunlight filtered through a canopy of trees, casting dappled shadows on the garden paths lined with vibrant flowers in full bloom. Roses, irises, and marigolds filled the air with a sweet and earthy fragrance, while delicate butterflies flitted among the blossoms.

’Even the garden at home can’t compare to this.’ Ayana thought, taking in the vibrant colors and rich fragrances that filled the air. The Kingston mansion had its own sprawling gardens of course, but the flowers and trees lacked the effortless harmony of this hidden haven.

From her perspective, every petal and leaf in this garden seemed to be planted with care yet allowed to flourish wildly, as if the nature and human hands had found the perfect balance.

’’Haha....’’ A hearty laugh suddenly broke through Ayana’s thoughts, snapping her out of her quiet astonishment.

She trailed after the laughter and spotted the Old master Kratos chuckling and facing her way. His eyes crinkled with a rare warmth that contrasted with his usual stoic demeanor in the public.

’’You seemed surprised, my dear.’’ He pointed out as she sat opposite him in the enchanted-like garden.

"The garden’s beauty is not what I expected, President Kratos.’’ She admitted, honestly. ’’Even the garden at home can’t compare." Her voice was genuine as she took in the vibrant surroundings once more.

"I’ll take that as a compliment, my dear," Old master Kratos replied, a smile tugging at his lips. "You should start calling me grandfather. I’d like to assume you’re aware that we will become family in the future." His smile deepened with a knowing look.

’’Yes, I am very much aware, grandfather.’’ Ayana was not one to be shy, since the verbal engagement was something that she had known from both lives.

Her attitude of adjusting without haste made the Old master kratos chuckle softly.

’’You’re quite straightforward and bold, just like your father. This makes me wonder about your cousin. That young lad is definitely something else.’’

*Clink*

Ayana sensed a presence behind her and she watched Butler Davis placed the two filled teacups and plates of pastries with the assistance of a maid holding up the tray. The aroma of the freshly brewed chrysanthemum tea mingled delightfully with the sweetness of the pastries, inviting and warm.

’’Thank you, Butler Davis.’’ She appreciated with a smile, and the butler returned hers with a silent nod before leaving quietly with the maid.

Ayana’s gaze swept over the colorful and cream-filled pastries, and lingered on the translucent golden-yellow color exuding a soft, honeyed fragrance. A reminiscent of fresh blossoms.

’’I didn’t expect a young lady like you to drink this type of tea.’’ She looked up at the Old master Kratos drinking from a teacup with small sips.

’’Davis is not one to overlook the guests’ taste.’’ He met her confused gaze after placing down his teacup.

Ayana’s eyes flashed with understanding before she lifted the teacup to her lips. As the delicate liquid flowed down her throat, she savored its warm light and subtly sweetened flavor.

’He brewed the tea perfectly.’ The corner of her lips tugged up in satisfaction, and she took another sip before lowering the teacup on the saucer. Just then, the Old Master asked her a question.

’’What are your plans for the future, my dear?’’ His tone was curious.
