Chapter 72 -0072: Counterkill the Four Bandits (Seeking Favorites and Recommendations)
Shi Yufeng’s crossbow bolts were no ordinary bolts. They were a kind of top-grade Human Grade spirit weapons, both the crossbow and the bolts themselves.
The bolts whizzed towards Qi Tian from about twenty to thirty meter away at a speed greater than 300 kilometers per hour. Such a short distance was instantly traversed by such high-speed bolts. However, a top-grade Human Grade spirit weapon’s bolt wasn’t just fast. When it was still ten meters away from Qi Tian, the bolt explosively split into more than a dozen bolts, forming a small scale arrow rain, speeding towards Qi Tian with the same velocity.
Qi Tian’s speed was a paltry less than 40 kilometers per hour. If he hoped to dodge the chasing arrows with his legs, he was utterly deluding himself. Luckily, he knew he wasn’t out of danger and never let his guard down. One Earth Wall Spell after another shot out from his wand, forming a shield behind him.
Right when the arrows exploded behind him, Qi Tian released another Earth Wall Skill, blocking the raining arrows, significantly reducing their speed and power. By the time they hit him, he could tolerate it. However, the inner armor he bought from the National Master Manor with 6,000 taels of silver was utterly ruined. If Shi Yufeng fired another bolt, he wouldn’t survive.
He was now at a critical juncture, even the slightest hesitation or a single mistake would mean his death today. No, not even a memorial day because nobody would know he died here, let alone burn paper money for him.
At that moment, Qi Tian saw a ravine ahead, overgrown with dense vegetation. A few thicket patches were especially noticeable, and it seemed that a massive shadow lurked in one, appearing to be a large rock. Qi Tian thought he saw the shadow move. Without trying to identify it, he leapt without hesitation into the ravine.
Shi Yufeng was about to fire a second bolt when to his surprise, Qi Tian played that move. He gripped the crossbow, spurred his red-eyed wolf’s belly with his legs, and the wolf ran towards the ravine.
“Are any of you dead yet? If not, hurry up and roll over here with me. We will not hesitate to kill this boy today,” shouted Shi Yufeng while chasing Qi Tian into the ravine, whilst still signaling the other bandits.

After jumping into the ravine, Qi Tian put away his wand. The bandits weren’t trying to capture him anymore. Using his wand now was a joke.
He took out a few jade talismans and placed them in an easily accessible location. The Thunder Axe Talisman was his last one, and he grasped it tightly in his hand. He hid behind a thicket. He couldn’t compete with Shi Yufeng. His only chance was to catch him by surprise with the Thunder Axe Talisman and kill Shi Yufeng. Only then was there a possibility of surviving.
By this time, Shi Yufeng had arrived at the edge of the ravine riding his red-eyed wolf. He reined in the wolf and scanned around under the faint moonlight, looking for traces of Qi Tian.
The red-eyed wolf probably felt that victory was near and howled in anticipation of its master killing the wily Qi Tian.
Howl…
Suddenly, a thicket rustled. Shi Yufeng was delighted and aimed his ready crossbow in the direction of the thicket, triggering the crossbow mechanism, and whoosh… a Human Grade top-grade spirit weapon bolt flew out.
Snort…
A bull-sized shadow ran out of the thicket. It was a Black-faced Fanged Pig with long tusks and thick black hair like steel needles. Several bolts were embedded in it, and it glared angrily at Shi Yufeng, who had shot it. The moment it shot out from the thicket, it charged towards Shi Yufeng like a rumbling tank.
Shi Yufeng’s face changed dramatically. He had forgotten about the presence of the irritable king of the mountains, the Black-faced Fanged Pig who was at the late-stage of Qi Cultivation. It had thick skin and immense strength, was ferocious, held grudges, and controlled several powerful Earth Element Spells. No one, even veterans at the Ninth Level of Qi Cultivation, liked to encounter such a beast.
Shi Yufeng didn’t care about anything else. He whipped his wolf around and ran away. Compared to killing Qi Tian, preserving his own life was the priority.
“Run, get out of here,” Shi Yufeng shouted at the other bandits as he was running.
Qi Tian let out a sigh of relief. He looked at the thicket where the Black-faced Fanged Pig had popped out and was struck by a thought. He ran over there. Just as Qi Tian had speculated, this was the Black-faced Fanged Pig’s den. It looked no different from an ordinary boar’s den, except that it was enormous, full of black, wet mud churned by the Black-faced Fanged Pig.
Qi Tian didn’t see another black-faced fanged pig here, let alone its cubs. Instead, he saw a dozen or so items caked in black mud, resembling stones, each about the size of a fist.
Qi Tian wasn’t sure what they were, but since the black-faced fanged pig had placed them in its nest, they must be of some use. So, he gathered them all.
After leaving the pig’s den, Qi Tian thought for a moment, and then headed in the direction where Shi Yufeng had chased him.
If Shi Yufeng and his men had been attacked by the black-faced fanged pig, they must be beaten and maybe even injured. If he could counterattack and possibly kill a few bandits, it would be perfect. If Shi Yufeng and the pig both received injuries, that would even be better. If so, he wouldn’t mind killing both the man and the beast.
First, Qi Tian poked his head out from the ravine under the moonlight to observe the situation outside. Both Shi Yufeng and the black-faced fanged pig had disappeared, so he crawled out of the ravine and retraced his steps. Soon, he saw a red-eyed demon wolf lying in a pool of blood with a large hole in its belly, blood gushing from the wound, apparently punctured to death by the fangs of the black-faced fanged pig.
Qi Tian stretched out his hand and a Transporting Whirlwind flew out of his palm, which swept away the body of the red-eyed demon wolf and used it as fuel for the Heavenly Dao Engine. He continued on and soon saw a bandit, staggering along. This bandit was the one who had chased him most aggressively just now. He was first knocked dizzy by Qi Tian’s successive Earth Wall Spells and then rammed by the black-faced fanged pig. Had he not managed to dodge quickly, he would have been done for.
Hearing footsteps behind him, the bandit turned around sharply and saw Qi Tian charging towards him. “Youngster, you’re not dead yet,” the bandit sneered, shaking his hand and drawing a Spirit Saber, quickly activating the runes on it. “You bypass the road to heaven and break into hell. Let’s see how I will kill you.”
Qi Tian had no intention of wrestling with the bandit. His frantic escape earlier was due to the fact that he was ambushed by a group of them and they killed his mount right from the start. He had no choice but to flee. But now, one on one, he wasn’t afraid of these bandits.
He threw a pre-activated jade talisman, which was a Spear Talisman. It could transform into a long spear, with the power equivalent to a full strike of a Fifth Level Qi Cultivator. The spear, carrying thousands of pounds of force, thrust ferociously towards the bandit.
The bandit’s face changed drastically. With his legs injured, escaping was nearly impossible, and he could only block with all his might. He swung his Spirit Saber with all his strength, slashing at the long spear transformed from the Spear Talisman.
The Spirit Saber and the long spear hacked each other, emitting a piercing shriek. The veins on the bandit’s forehead bulged as he put in great effort.
At this moment, Qi Tian activated his Chasing Wind Step, maximizing his speed. Like a grim reaper emerging from hell, he wore a cold expression, delivering a powerful punch to the bandit’s neck, breaking it instantly.
The bandit dropped dead on the spot, and the long spear fell, piercing right through the bandit’s corpse.
Qi Tian stretched out his hand to retrieve the bandit’s Storage Bag and the Spirit Saber. Then he released a Transporting Whirlwind to send the bandit’s body to the Heavenly Dao Engine for fuel.
Then Qi Tian quickly retraced his steps without stopping. He encountered three other bandits on the way, one at a time. Among them, one was dead and one was injured already. Only one was unharmed, but his mount had been crushed by a large rock summoned by Qi Tian’s Heaven-falling Boulder Skills.
These bandits were not particularly powerful cultivators, they were no match for Qi Tian in a one-on-one fight. Qi Tian easily killed all three of them without even starting the Heavenly Dao Engine. He took their Storage Bags and other treasures. He even took their bodies and the red-eyed demon wolf’s body to use as fuel. He truly lived up to the saying “take advantage of every opportunity”, leaving nothing behind.
Qi Tian was disappointed that he didn’t see Shi Yufeng and the black-faced fanged pig anywhere. He had no idea where the man and the beast had gone to fight. He wanted to search for them, but the night was getting deeper and he was not familiar with the mountain terrain. If he provoked another beast like the black-faced fanged pig, he would be in serious trouble. Even without the beast, if he stumbled and fell into a deep canyon, it wouldn’t end well.
Qi Tian decided to quit while he was ahead. He figured out the direction and hastily left the mountain range, doing a night march over the hills.
After walking a few miles, Qi Tian found a big tree, climbed up it with his hands and feet.
In the Jia Nan Mountain, the beasts were mainly land-based. Though there were a few powerful avian and serpentine beasts, they were very rare, especially the serpents which were small in size and wouldn’t consider trees as their nests. Thus, during their cultivation journey in the Jia Nan Mountain, the native cultivators often chose trees as their temporary habitation for the night.
